1.

Inspection of the MLG Side Stay Bottom
Cardan Joint

A.

Do a visual inspection of the flanges
of the bottom cardan joint bushes as
far as possible for cracks,
distorsion. Do not remove the cardan
joint pins.
It is very important to examine the
lower flange of the lower cardan
joint bushes at the outboard
position nearest the leg.

2.

Inspection of the Gaps of the MLG
Side Stay

A.

Use feeler gauges to measure the
maximum gaps at the side stay
cardan joint installations:
- dimension C
- dimension D
Make a record of the values.
The total clearance
E = (Cmax + Dmax)
must be between:
- 0.043 mm (0.0017 in.) and
- 0.50 mm (0.0197 in.).
NOTE: The gaps may vary around the
pin/bush circumference. This is
acceptable provided the sum of
the maximum gaps is not more
than 0.5 mm (0.0196 in.).
If the clearance is outside the
limits:
X

(1) Measure the load on the bottom
Stalock nut as follows:

X

(a) Lift the aircraft (Ref. AMM TASK 07-11-00-581-001).

(b) Remove the circlips as follows:
- use an applicable tool to
release the tail of the circlip
from the key slot of the locking
washer,
- hold the tail of the circlip,
- carefully pull the circlip
(clockwise) until it is
released from the chamfered slot
in the nut.
(c) Remove the locking washer from the
nut.
(d) Mark the position of the nut with
a pencil line.
(e) Loosen the nut and install the
nut at the initial position and
tighten with the 460005834 TUBE SPANNER.
(f) Make sure that the torque value is
18 m.daN (132.74 lbf. ft).

(2) Remove the bottom cardan joint
and check of the following
dimensions:
(Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-16-000-001)
- dimension A between 137.917 mm
(5.429 in.) and 137.957 mm
(5.431 in.),
- dimension B between 138 mm
(5.433 in.) and 138.06 mm
(5.435 in.).

X

(a) If the dimension A is out of
tolerance:
1_ Replace the bottom cardan flange
bushes. Refer to the related CMM.
NOTE: The AMM (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-18-400-001),
gives the correct CMM references.

X

(b) If the dimension B is out of
tolerance:
1_ Replace the bottom cardan pin.
Refer to the related CMM.
NOTE: The AMM (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-18-400-001),
gives the correct CMM reference.

X

(3) Install the bottom cardan joint
(Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-16-400-001).

X

(4) Make sure that the MLG Side-Stay
gap is in the tolerance:
- Do step 2.A. again.

X

(5) Close the main landing gear
doors (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-410-001).

X

(6) Remove the access platform(s).

X

(7) Do a functional test of the
extension and retraction of
the main landing gear
(Ref. AMM TASK 32-31-00-720-002).

X

(8) Do a functional test of the
free-fall extension system (Ref. AMM TASK 32-33-00-720-001).
