3. Job Set-up
WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE PROBES DURING OR IMMEDIATELY AFTER THIS PROCEDURE. THE PROBES WILL BE HOT AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING: DO NOT TRY TO STOP THE FAN FROM TURNING BY HAND. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO THE PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE LANDING GEAR GROUND SAFETIES AND THE WHEEL CHOCKS ARE IN POSITION. MOVEMENT OF THE AIRCRAFT CAN BE DANGEROUS.
WARNING: DO NOT REMOVE THE FILLER CAP OF THE OIL TANK IMMEDIATELY AFTER ENGINE OPERATION. LET THE OIL PRESSURE DECREASE FOR A MINIMUM OF 5 MINUTES AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. IF YOU OPEN THE FILLER CAP WHEN THERE IS PRESSURE IN THE TANK, THE OIL CAN BURN YOU DANGEROUSLY.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION: DO NOT MOTOR THE ENGINE WITH EITHER THE FAN COWLS OR THRUST REVERSER HALVE(S) OPEN WHEN THE WIND SPEED IS 50 MPH (80 KM/H) OR MORE. OTHERWISE INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THE FAN COWLS AND THRUST REVERSER HALVES ARE SECURELY HELD OPEN DURING MOTORING. MAKE SURE HOLD OPEN RODS ARE SERVICEABLE.
CAUTION: DO NOT REPLACE AN IDLE LEAK CHECK BY A MOTORING TEST. YOU CANNOT DETECT POTENTIAL OIL LEAKS WITH A MOTORING TEST. IF YOU DO A MOTORING TEST INSTEAD OF AN IDLE LEAK CHECK, YOU CAN CAUSE AN ENGINE SHUTDOWN.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS NO HYDRAULIC GROUND POWER SUPPLY CONNECTED TO THE AIRCRAFT WHEN YOU DO THIS PROCEDURE. IF A HYDRAULIC GROUND POWER SUPPLY IS CONNECTED, THERE IS A RISK OF DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE PUMPS.

CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE ENG/MASTER 1(2) CONTROL SWITCH (ON THE PANEL 115VU) IS SET TO OFF BEFORE YOU START THE FUEL PUMPS.
CAUTION: BEFORE YOU MOTOR THE ENGINE, MAKE SURE ALL MAIN FUEL PUMPS ARE SET TO ON (LIGHTS ARE OUT) AND THE CIRCUIT BREAKER 1KC1 (2) IS PULLED. THIS ENSURES POSITIVE FUEL PRESSURE TO THE ENGINE.
A. Do this test:
CAUTION : DO NOT MOTOR THE ENGINE MORE THAN THE LIMIT OR YOU CAN DAMAGE THE STARTER.
   (1) For general information, refer to the engine safety precautions (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-012) and the engine operation limits, guidelines and special procedures (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-010).
ACTION
RESULT
1.On HYD/FUEL panel 40VU:

  • Push all the FUEL/PUMPS pushbutton switches.
  • The OFF legends of these pushbutton switches go off.
2.On overhead circuit breaker panel 49VU:

  • Open circuit breaker 1KC1 (A01) (1KC2 (A02)) to open the LP valve.
  • After a few seconds:
  • On the upper ECAM display unit:
    * The ENG 1(2) LP VALVE OPEN message comes into view.
    * The single chime sounds.
    * The MASTER CAUT light comes on.
NOTE: In case of an engine fire, push and then release the ENG FIRE pushbutton switch.
3.Make sure that the throttle control lever of engine 1(2) is in the idle position (zero on the graduated sector).

4.On ENG panel 115VU:

  • Set the ENG/MODE/CRANK/NORM/IGN/START selector switch to CRANK.
On the lower ECAM display unit:
  • The ENGINE page comes into view.
  • Make sure that the available air pressure is between 30 psi (2.07 bar) and 40 psi (2.76 bar).
  • do a check of the oil tank (Ref. AMM TASK 12-13-79-610-011).

  • Push the ENG/MAN START/1(2) pushbutton switch.
  • The ON legend of this pushbutton switch comes on.
  • On the lower ECAM display unit, on the ENGINE page, the symbol for the starter valve is in the open position.
  • Motor the engine as long as necessary but obey the starter operating limits: 120 seconds.
  • Look at the N1 and N2 indications to make sure that the engine operates.
  • Make sure that the oil pressure is positive. Do not continue to motor the engine if you do not see a positive oil pressure.

  • Make sure that you do not operate the starter more than its operating limits:
  • Three cycles: two cycles of a duration of two minutes and one cycle of a duration of one minute maximum, and let 15 seconds of no operation between the cycles to allow for the starter rotor lubrication, or
  • Four minutes of continuous cranking.
  • Let the starter cool for 30 minutes before you try a new start of motoring.
  • Do not engage the starter when the N2 speed is above 10 percent.
  • While the engine is motored, do a visual check for leaks at the fuel and oil system tubes and manifolds.
6.On overhead control and indicating panel 22VU:

  • Release the ENG/MAN START/1(2) pushbutton switch.
  • The ON legend of this pushbutton switch goes off.
  • On the lower ECAM display unit, on the ENGINE page, the symbol for the starter valve is in the closed position.
7.On ENG panel 115VU:

  • Set the ENG/MODE/CRANK/NORM/IGN/START selector switch to NORM.
  • On the lower ECAM display unit, the ENGINE page goes out of view.
8.On the lower ECAM display unit:

  • Get the ENGINE page.
  • On the lower ECAM display unit, the ENGINE page comes into view.
9.On the lower ECAM display unit, on the ENGINE page:

  • After a minimum of 5 minutes after the end of the test, look at the oil level indication.
10.When the engine is shut down, on HYD/FUEL panel 40VU:

  • Release all the FUEL/PUMPS pushbutton switches.
  • The OFF legend of these pushbutton switches comes on.
11.On overhead circuit breaker panel 49VU:

  • Close circuit breaker 1KC1 (A01) (1KC2 (A02)) to close the LP valve.
On the upper ECAM display unit:
  • The ENG1(2) LP VALVE OPEN message goes out of view.
  • The MASTER CAUT light goes off.
NOTE: During the engine coastdown, listen for any unusual noise from the turning components of the engine.
