Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Flight [IAE]

TASK 78-30-00-040-013-A
Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Flight

WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
WARNING: DO NOT CAUSE A BLOCKAGE OF THE HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) RETURN PORT TO DEACTIVATE THE HCU. IF YOU CAUSE A BLOCKAGE OF THE HCU RETURN PORT THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTLY AND CAUSE INJURY OR DAMAGE.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred 5 minutes or more before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) IS DEACTIVATED BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND THE THRUST REVERSER. IF THE HCU IS NOT DEACTIVATED, THERE IS A RISK OF UNWANTED THRUST REVERSER OPERATION WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Stop the thrust reverser HCU with the storage lockout pin (2) attached to the HCU.
     (a) Set the lockout lever (3) on the HCU (1) to the lockout position.
     (b) Install the lockout pin (2) attached to the HCU (1) in the lockout hole of the HCU (1).
   (2) Remove the access platform(s).
   (3) Close the fan cowls (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-010):
     (a) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)
437AL, 438AR

447AL, 448AR.
Subtask 78-30-00-860-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Measure the distance between the translating sleeve leading edge and the fan cowl aft edge.
   (1) The distance must be between 0.03 in. (0.76 mm) and 0.25 in. (6.35 mm) for 80 percent of the measurements and between 0.03 in. (0.76 mm) and 0.31 in. (7.87 mm) for 20 percent of the measurements.
     (a) If the distance is not correct:
1 Retract the two left and right translating sleeves.
a Make sure that the translating sleeves are in the fully retracted position. If they are not in the fully retracted position, manually move the translating sleeves to the fully retracted position (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-00-860-011).
  • If the translating sleeve can not be moved to the fully retracted position, move the translating sleeve forward until one or the two actuator rod ends can be put in the mounting brackets. If only one actuator rod end can be put in the mounting brackets, you must adjust the other rod end (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-820-010).
       2 Do step 4.B again.

F Thrust Reverser Lockout ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Remove the plug (18) from the lockout assembly (15) on the outer side of each translating sleeve.
   (2) Remove the lockout pin (16) from the pin stowage bracket assembly (17) on the outer side of each translating sleeve.
   (3) Clean the components:
     (a) Clean the lockout pin (16) and the plug (18) with the V01-076methyl ethyl ketone, technical grade.
1 Wipe dry with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) before the V01-076methyl ethyl ketone, technical grade evaporates.
     (b) Apply the anti-seize compound (Material No.V10-094) to the lockout pin (16) and the plug (18).
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE HOLES IN THE C-DUCT AND THE TRANSLATING SLEEVE ARE CORRECTLY ALIGNED AND THE LOCKOUT PIN IS INSTALLED CORRECTLY. THERE IS A RISK THAT THE LOCKOUT PIN WILL NOT BE FULLY INSTALLED AND WILL NOT MECHANICALLY INHIBIT THE REVERSER.
   (4) Install the lockout pin (16) in the lockout assembly (15) as shown in the figure.
     (a) If the lockout pin cannot be fully installed because the holes are not aligned, align them:
1 Do a check of the rigging of the translating sleeve actuators (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-820-010) Para.4.C.
NOTE: The lockout pin will be above the receptacle when the pin will be installed.
   (5) Install the plug (18) into the pin stowage bracket assembly (17) of each translating sleeve as shown in the figure.
   (6) Do a test of the Linear Variable Differential Transducers (LVDTs) and make sure that they operate correctly on the deactivated reverser.
     (a) Do the operational test of the thrust reverser system with the Centralized Fault Display System (CFDS) on the EEC channels A and B (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-00-710-041):
1 During the operational test, make sure that the green or the amber "REV" indication in the Engine Pressure Ratio (EPR) indicator of the engine 1(2) does not show.
2 When the "FAULT DETECTED" page comes into view on the Multipurpose Control & Display Unit (MCDU) screen, push the return key two times to get the "GROUND SCANNING" menu.
     (b) Make sure that these faults are not reported by "GROUND SCANNING":
  • "REV LVDT CHA/HC/EEC 1(2)."
  • "REV LVDT CHB/HC/EEC 1(2)."
  • "REV POS OR LVDT FAULT 1(2).".
NOTE: You can ignore the "T/R SOV/HCU/EEC 1(2)" or "HYD CONT UNIT/HC/EEC 1(2)" fault.
     (c) Return the throttle lever to the "IDLE" position.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE "ENG 1(2) REVERSE UNLOCKED" AND "ENG 1(2) REV PRESSURIZED" ECAM WARNINGS ARE NOT SHOWN. THEY ARE SHOWN WHEN THE THRUST REVERSER DEACTIVATION IS NOT CORRECT AND THERE IS NO MECHANICAL OR HYDRAULIC INHIBITION OF THE THRUST REVERSER. THIS CAN CAUSE AN IN-FLIGHT DEPLOYMENT OF THE THRUST REVERSER.
     (d) Push the return key until you exit the interactive mode and make sure that:
  • The "ECAM warning REV 1(2) INHIBITED" comes into view.
  • The "ECAM warning ENG 1(2) REVERSE UNLOCKED" is not shown.
  • The "ECAM warning ENG 1(2) REV PRESSURIZED" is not shown.
