C. Deactivate the Thrust Reverser
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER HYDRAULIC CONTROL UNIT (HCU) IS DEACTIVATED BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND THE THRUST REVERSER. IF THE HCU IS NOT DEACTIVATED, THERE IS A RISK OF UNWANTED THRUST REVERSER OPERATION WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Make sure that the thrust reverser Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) is deactivated (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-012).

D. Put the locking actuators in the unlocked position
F Thrust Reverser Locking Actuator ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Move the lock levers (65) on the left and right locking actuators (64) aft to the unlocked position and install the IAE1N20049 PIN - LOCKOUT ACTUATOR, (67) to hold the lock levers in the unlocked position.

E. Put the non-return valve in the by-pass position
   (1) Remove the lockwire that safeties the lever (71) in the by-pass position.
   (2) Move the lever (71) of the non-return valve (70) to the by-pass position.
4. Procedure
Subtask 78-32-00-410-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
CAUTION: DO NOT USE POWER TOOLS IN THE MANUAL DRIVE SOCKETS TO MOVE THE THRUST REVERSER TRANSLATING SLEEVE. TOO MUCH TORQUE COULD CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE TRANSLATING SLEEVE MECHANISM. THE MAXIMUM TORQUE PERMITTED DURING RETRACTION IS 350 LBF IN. (3,96 MDAN).
CAUTION: DO NOT RETRACT THE THRUST REVERSER TRANSLATING SLEEVES WITH THE THRUST REVERSER HALVES OPEN. DAMAGE TO THE TRANSLATING SLEEVES, SYNCHRONOUS CABLES AND THE HINGE ACCESS PANELS OF THE THRUST REVERSER COULD OCCUR. CLOSE THE THRUST REVERSER HALVES BEFORE YOU RETRACT THE TRANSLATING SLEEVES.
A. Retract the translating sleeve

NOTE: You may need to turn and align the manual drive rods (protruding square shafts) before you can push the square drive into the manual drive. The socket end of your 0.375 in. square drive is a convenient tool to use for this purpose.
NOTE: The manual drive rods have a strong return spring to ensure the manual drives disengage after you use them. You must continue to push the manual drive rods in to maintain engagement while you turn the square drives.
   (1) Put a 0.375 in. square drive in to the manual drive socket (66) of the left and right thrust reverser halves.
   (2) Push the square drive into engage the internal actuator drives. For the left thrust reverser half, turn the square drive counterclockwise. For the right thrust reverser half, turn the square drive clockwise.
NOTE: Use the manual drives on the left and right thrust reverser halves at the same time, to retract (stow) the translating sleeves.
   (3) Remove the square drives.

A. Put the locking actuators in the locked position
F Thrust Reverser Locking Actuator ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
CAUTION: THE LOCKING ACTUATOR LOCK LEVERS MUST BE IN THE FORWARD LOCKED POSITION FOR FLIGHT OPERATION.
   (1) Remove the lockout pins (67) from the lock levers (65) of the left and the right locking actuators (64) and move the lock levers forward to the locked position.
   (2) Put the non-return valve (70) in the NORMAL position
   (3) Move the lever (71) to the normal position.
   (4) Safety of the lever.
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
     (a) Safety the lever (71) to the body of the non-return valve (70) with the lockwire (Material No.V02-147) .
