NOTE: Make sure that a second person is in position to observe the extension of the RAT before you push the MAN RAT ON pushbutton.

A. Operational Test of the Manual Deployment of the RAT

Lift the guard and push the RAT MAN ON switch.	The RAT fully extends. On the glare shields: The MASTER CAUTION lights come on and you can hear a single chime. On the HYD page of the lower ECAM DU: The RAT triangle symbol changes to green when the RAT is fully extended. On the upper ECAM DU: The legends HYD RAT FAULT and RAT OUT are shown in amber.
3.Retract the RAT (Ref. AMM TASK 29-22-00-869-006).	The RAT retracts in its stowage area.
4.On overhead panel 21VU:	At the RAT stowage area:
Lift the guard and push the MAN ON/AUTO switch in the EMER ELEC PWR section.	The RAT extends. On the glareshields: The MASTER CAUTION lights come on and you can hear a single chime. On the HYD page of the lower ECAM DU: The RAT triangle symbol changes to green when the RAT is fully extended. On the upper ECAM DU: The legends HYD RAT FAULT and RAT OUT are shown in amber.

C. Inspection of the RAT
(1) Make sure that the RAT down-lock is engaged:
(a) Manually push the RAT in the retraction direction.
(b) If you push the RAT with a sudden force, the RAT can move in the retraction direction. This is permitted.
(c) If you push the RAT with a constant force, the RAT can move in the retraction direction. This is not permitted and you must replace the actuator (Ref. AMM TASK 29-22-53-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 29-22-53-400-010).
(2) Make sure that the RAT and the attachment parts are in the correct condition.
(3) Inspection of the RAT Gearbox Interface:
(a) Do a leakage inspection of the RAT gearbox:
1 If there is a leakage, replace the RAT (Ref. AMM TASK 29-22-51-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 29-22-51-400-010).
(b) Do a check of the oil level in the gearbox housing assembly:
1 If the oil level is less than half of the sight glass, fill the RAT gearbox with oil (Ref. AMM TASK 12-13-29-600-001).
(4) Do a check of the differential pressure indicator of the RAT filter:
(a) Make sure that the RAT filter is not blocked (differential pressure indicator is in).
(b) If the differential pressure indicator is out, replace the RAT filter element (Ref. AMM TASK 29-22-51-000-013) and (Ref. AMM TASK 29-22-51-400-013)
(5) Make sure that the switch 28VDC on RAT control panel (3GE) is in the OFF position.

(3) Install the AGE10600D CHECK-MOTOR GROUND,RAT on the RAT with RAT Safety Interface Kit (RSIK) as follows:

NOTE: The function of the RSIK1 RAT INTERFACE MODULE is to prevent the RAT gearbox from damage from the ground test motor (high pressure leakage).

(a) Remove the bolts (3), the washers (2) and the cover plate (1).

NOTE: If the adapter pinion (12) is installed, go to step (h).

(b) Push in the adapter pinion (10) of the AGE10600D CHECK-MOTOR GROUND,RAT (7).
(c) Use the PLIERS - NOSE, SOFT, LONG and the DRIFT - PUNCH to remove the locking spring (11) from the relief groove.
(d) Remove the adapter pinion (10).
(e) Install the adapter pinion (12) to the AGE10600D CHECK-MOTOR GROUND,RAT (7).
(f) Push in the adapter pinion (12) of the AGE10600D CHECK-MOTOR GROUND,RAT (7).
(g) Use the PLIERS - NOSE, SOFT, LONG and the DRIFT - PUNCH to install the locking spring (11). Make sure the adapter pinion (12) is installed correctly.

NOTE: When you pull the adapter pinion (12), it must not come out.

(h) Loosely install the screws (5) to the RAT from the RSIK1 RAT INTERFACE MODULE.
(i) TORQUE the screws (5) to between 159.31 and 132.76 lbf.in (1.80 and 1.50 m.daN )

.
(j) Install the adapter plate (6) on the screws (5).

NOTE: All arrows on the adapter plate (6) must point to the RAT.

(k) Loosely install the AGE10600D CHECK-MOTOR GROUND,RAT (7), on the screws (5) with the washers (8) and the nuts (9).
(l) TORQUE the nuts (9) to between 159.31 and 132.76 lbf.in (1.80 and 1.50 m.daN )

.
(m) Connect the discharge hose to the adapter plate (6) and to the CONTAINER-FUEL RESISTANT, TRANSPARENT PLASTIC.
(n) Connect the hydraulic hoses of the AGE10600D CHECK-MOTOR GROUND,RAT to a GROUND POWER CART - HYDRAULIC, RESERVOIR MIN. 150 L.

NOTE: The motor flow during the test is approximately 140 +8 l.min or -8 l.min (37.0 +2.1 USgal.mn or -2.1 USgal.mn) at 206 bar (2988 psi). For the function test of the RAT-governor, the motor flow will increase. Thus, the capacity of the ground power cart must be 140 l.min (37 USgal.mn) at 206 bar (2987.7766 psi).

NOTE: On the hydraulic ground-power cart, make sure that the reservoir selector valve is set to:

The open loop position
or
The test stand reservoir position.

(o) Make sure that the drain hole points down when the AGE10600D CHECK-MOTOR GROUND,RAT is installed.
(p) If the AGE10600D CHECK-MOTOR GROUND,RAT has an adjustment valve, make sure that the valve is in the fully open position.

NOTE: Only the CHECK-MOTOR GROUND, RAT AGE10600A has an adjustment valve.

(4) Install the RAT Flow Control Test Kit:

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT IS STABLE AND CANNOT MOVE DURING THE TEST. IF THE PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT MOVES, THERE IS A RISK THAT:

IT WILL TOUCH AND CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE RAT
BROKEN PARTS WILL CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.

(a) If you use the AE89415Z FLOW CONTROL TEST - RAT and the AGE11212 GROUND - CHECKOUT UNIT, RAT (refer to the Reason for Job statement, Paragraph 1., for more tool data):
1 Connect the hydraulic hoses of the AE89415Z FLOW CONTROL TEST - RAT to the ground connectors of the ground service panel (Blue hydraulic system).

NOTE: If the AE89415Z FLOW CONTROL TEST - RAT is not available, you can also use these flow control test kits:

2 Install the 98D29208581000 PROTECTION EQUIPMENT - RAT. As an alternative, you can use the 98D29207550001 PROTECTION EQUIPMENT - RAT.
3 Connect the AGE11212 GROUND - CHECKOUT UNIT, RAT or the HFK02 TEST KIT, FLOW CONTROL - RAT to the connector 3GE-B on the RAT control panel.
(b) If you use the HFK02 TEST KIT, FLOW CONTROL - RAT:
1 Connect the hydraulic hoses of the FLOW CONTROL TEST KIT - RAT to the ground connectors of the ground service panel of the (Blue hydraulic system).
2 Install the 98D29208581000 PROTECTION EQUIPMENT - RAT. As an alternative, you can use the 98D29207550001 PROTECTION EQUIPMENT - RAT.
3 Connect the electrical connector of the FLOW CONTROL TEST KIT - RAT to the connector 3GE-B on the RAT control panel.
(c) If you use the 13-6600-3600 TEST - UNIT, RAT:
1 Connect the hydraulic hoses of the FLOW CONTROL TEST KIT - RAT to the ground connectors of the ground service panel (Blue hydraulic system).
2 Install the 98D29208581000 PROTECTION EQUIPMENT - RAT. As an alternative, you can use the 98D29207550001 PROTECTION EQUIPMENT - RAT.
3 Connect the electrical connector of the FLOW CONTROL TEST KIT - RAT to the connector 3GE-B on the RAT control panel.
(d) If you use the PGRAT1 TEST - EQUIPMENT, RAT:
1 Connect the hydraulic hoses of the FLOW CONTROL TEST KIT - RAT to the ground connectors of the ground service panel (Blue hydraulic system).
2 Install the 98D29208581000 PROTECTION EQUIPMENT - RAT. As an alternative, you can use the 98D29207550001 PROTECTION EQUIPMENT - RAT.
3 Connect the electrical connector of the FLOW CONTROL TEST KIT - RAT to the connector 3GE-B on the RAT control panel.
(e) If you use the BH4016A RAT TEST EQUIPMENT:
1 Connect the hydraulic hoses of the FLOW CONTROL TEST KIT - RAT to the ground connectors of the ground service panel (Blue hydraulic system).
2 Install the 98D29208581000 PROTECTION EQUIPMENT - RAT. As an alternative, you can use the 98D29207550001 PROTECTION EQUIPMENT - RAT.
3 Connect the electrical connector of the FLOW CONTROL TEST KIT - RAT to the connector 3GE-B on the RAT control panel.

F. Lamp Test on the RAT Control Panel
(1) On RAT control panel 3GE push and hold the "LAMP TEST" switch in the TEST position:

The ACTUATOR PRESSURE warning lamp comes on (red).
The INTERLOCK WARNING lamp comes on (amber).
The RAT STOWED lamp comes on (green).

(2) Release the LAMP TEST switch, each lamp goes out.

G. Functional Test of the RAT (Spin-Up and Governing Test) with the AE89415Z FLOW CONTROL TEST - RAT and the AGE11212 GROUND - CHECKOUT UNIT, RAT or the HFK02 TEST KIT, FLOW CONTROL - RAT or the 13-6600-3600 TEST - UNIT, RAT or the PGRAT1 TEST - EQUIPMENT, RAT or the BH4016A RAT TEST EQUIPMENT

WARNING: KEEP ALL PERSONS AWAY FROM THE AREA WHEN YOU PRESSURIZE THE BLUE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM. WHEN YOU PRESSURIZE THE BLUE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM, THE RAT CAN TURN AT MORE THAN 5000 RPM.

WARNING: OBEY THE HYDRAULIC SAFETY PROCEDURES.

WARNING: ALWAYS WEAR RUBBER GLOVES, GOGGLES AND PROTECTIVE CLOTHES WHEN YOU DO THIS TASK.

(1) Obey the hydraulic safety procedure (Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-910-002).

NOTE: Always monitor the transparent discharge hose and the fluid container. When the hydraulic fluid flows from the RSIK through the discharge hose into the container, stop the test immediately to prevent damage to the RAT gearbox. If the hydraulic fluid is there, the ground test motor is damaged. The damage causes leakage in the direction of the RSIK. The hydraulic fluid from the motor can cause damage to the RAT gearbox. At the beginning of the leakage, the RSIK can move the fluid. If the leakage occurs, replace the ground test motor and examine the RAT gearbox for the damage that the hydraulic fluid caused.

(2) Make sure that the Blue hydraulic system is serviceable.

NOTE: The operation of the Blue electric pump is necessary to pre-charge the Blue hydraulic system accumulator for the spin-up and governing test.

(3) You must look at the temperature gage of the AE89415Z FLOW CONTROL TEST - RAT or the HFK02 TEST KIT, FLOW CONTROL - RAT or the 13-6600-3600 TEST - UNIT, RAT or the PGRAT1 TEST - EQUIPMENT, RAT or the BH4016A RAT TEST EQUIPMENT during the test. The test values can be out of tolerance if the temperature increases to more than 60 deg.C (140.00 deg.F). If so, you must stop the test, let the temperature decrease and do the test again.
(4) Do the test that follows:

Set the POWER ON/OFF switch to ON.	If installed, the POWER light comes on. The SPEED and the PRESSURE indicators show the digit 8 for approximately 2 seconds.
2.Adjust the flow on the AE89415Z FLOW CONTROL TEST - RAT or the HFK02 TEST KIT, FLOW CONTROL - RAT or the 13-6600-3600 TEST - UNIT, RAT or the PGRAT1 TEST - EQUIPMENT, RAT or the BH4016A RAT TEST EQUIPMENT to 0 l.min (0 USgal.min).
3.On overhead panel 50VU:	On overhead panel 50VU on the P/BSW:
Set the P/BSW LEAK MEASUREMENT VALVES/B to OFF.	The OFF light comes on.
4.On overhead panel 40VU:
Make sure that the P/BSW BLUE/ELEC PUMP is set to AUTO (The OFF light on the P/BSW is off).
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK IN THE AREA ADJACENT TO THE EXTENDED RAT. IF THE BLUE HYDRAULIC SYSTEM IS PRESSURIZED, THE RAT BLADES CAN TURN. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT. 5.On overhead panel 50VU: NOTE: The pressurization of the Blue hydraulic system will show that the check valve is not blocked in the open position.	On overhead panel 50VU:
Set the P/BSW BLUE PUMP OVRD to ON.	The ON light in the P/BSW comes on The Blue electric pump starts.
	On the HYD page of the lower ECAM DU: A pressure of 3000 +/- 100 psi is shown.
	At the RAT: The turbine blades of the RAT do not turn.
CAUTION: YOU MUST STOP THE TEST IMMEDIATELY IF THE RAT TURNS MORE THAN 5500 RPM. 6.On the hydraulic ground-power cart:	At the RAT:
Supply a pressure of approximately 206 bar (3000 psi).	The turbine blades of the RAT turn. Make sure that the RAT turns in a counterclockwise direction. NOTE: Counterclockwise is when you stay behind the RAT and look in the flight direction.
	On the GCU: The SPEED (RPM) indicator shows 5000 +/- 250 RPM. NOTE: The SPEED (RPM) indicator can show 5000 +/- 250 RPM if the pressure is less than 206 bar (3000 psi).
7.Continue with the pump test.

It can cause oscillation of the RAT rpm, flow and pressure because of anti-stall valve sensitivity. If you get the rpm and pressure values within the specified limits after quasi-stable conditions, this condition is permitted.
4.Adjust the flow on the AE89415Z FLOW CONTROL TEST - RAT or the HFK02 TEST KIT, FLOW CONTROL - RAT or the 13-6600-3600 TEST - UNIT, RAT or the PGRAT1 TEST - EQUIPMENT, RAT or the BH4016A RAT TEST EQUIPMENT to 0 l.min (0 USgal.min).	On the GCU: The SPEED (RPM) indicator shows 4600 RPM or more. The PRESSURE (PSI) indicator shows pressure of 2320 psi or more.

(2) If the 13-6600-3600 TEST - UNIT, RAT is installed:
(a) Disconnect the electrical connector of the 13-6600-3600 TEST - UNIT, RAT from the RAT control panel.
(3) If the PGRAT1 TEST - EQUIPMENT, RAT is installed:
(a) Disconnect the electrical connector of the PGRAT1 TEST - EQUIPMENT, RAT from the RAT control panel.

(a) Disconnect the electrical connector of the HFK02 TEST KIT, FLOW CONTROL - RAT from the RAT control panel.

(a) Disconnect the electrical connector of the BH4016A RAT TEST EQUIPMENT from the RAT control panel.
(6) Remove the 98D29208581000 PROTECTION EQUIPMENT - RAT or the 98D29207550001 PROTECTION EQUIPMENT - RAT.
(7) Remove the AGE10600D CHECK-MOTOR GROUND,RAT (7) with the RAT Safety Interface Kit (RSIK):
(a) Disconnect the hydraulic hoses from the hydraulic ground-power cart.
(b) Disconnect the discharge hose from adapter plate (6) and the container.
(c) Remove the nuts (9), the washers (8), the AGE10600D CHECK-MOTOR GROUND,RAT (7), the adapter plate (6) and the screws (5).
(8) Do an inspection of the AGE10600D CHECK-MOTOR GROUND,RAT (7) drive shaft and the adjacent area:
(a) Make sure that there is no leakage.
(9) Disconnect the hydraulic hoses from the ground connectors of the ground service panel of the Blue hydraulic system.
(10) Remove the AE89415Z FLOW CONTROL TEST - RAT or the 13-6600-3600 TEST - UNIT, RAT or the PGRAT1 TEST - EQUIPMENT, RAT or the HFK02 TEST KIT, FLOW CONTROL - RAT or the BH4016A RAT TEST EQUIPMENT.
(11) Install the hydraulic caps on the ground connectors.

L. Inspection of the RAT after the Functional Test
(1) Inspection of the Indicator
(a) Examine the RAT and make sure that the differential pressure indicator is in the "in" position.
1 If the differential pressure indicator is popped out, replace the filter (Ref. AMM TASK 29-22-51-000-013) and (Ref. AMM TASK 29-22-51-400-013).

(2) Examine the RAT pump/gearbox splitline, the drain hole and the aft drain slot on the bottom of the RAT gearbox housing assembly for external leakage. Make sure that the external leakage is not more than:

60 drops an hour when the RAT is in operation,
2 drops an hour when the RAT is not in operation.

NOTE: The given values are only for the RAT pump/gearbox splitline, the drain hole and the aft drain slot and not for the hydraulic connections. If you are not sure of the source of the leaks, it is necessary to:

Pressurize the Blue hydraulic system with 3000 psi
Examine the hydraulic connections and the related components.

(3) Inspection of the RAT Gearbox
(a) Do an inspection of the rear bearing in the RAT gearbox interface area:
1 If the bearing is damaged, replace the RAT (Ref. AMM TASK 29-22-51-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 29-22-51-400-010).
(b) Do a leakage inspection of the RAT.
(c) Examine the RAT oil level:
1 If the fluid level is high and the interface is wet, replace the RAT (Ref. AMM TASK 29-22-51-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 29-22-51-400-010).
2 If the fluid level is low and the interface is dry, add oil (Ref. AMM TASK 12-13-29-600-001).
3 If the fluid level is low and the interface is wet, replace the RAT (Ref. AMM TASK 29-22-51-000-010) and (Ref. AMM TASK 29-22-51-400-010).
(4) Install the cover plate (1), the washers (2) and the bolts (3).
(5) TORQUE the bolts (3) to between 95 and 86 lbf.in (1.07 and 0.97 m.daN )
