Removal of the Safety Device of the Ram Air Turbine

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE RAT TRAVEL RANGE IS CLEAR BEFORE YOU EXTEND/RETRACT THE RAT.

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE GROUND SAFETY-LOCKS ARE IN POSITION ON THE LANDING GEAR. THIS WILL PREVENT UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE LANDING GEAR, AND THUS POSSIBLE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT.

A. Make sure that the warning notices are in position to tell persons not to operate the RAT:

on the overhead panels 21VU and 40VU.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE are in position at the avionics compartment doors 812 and 822.
(2) Make sure that the access doors 812 and 822 are open.
(3) Make sure that the access door 195BB is open.
(4) In the avionics compartment, make sure that the access panels of the AC/DC emergency power center 106VU and BATTERY power center 105VU are open.

A. Removal of the Safety Device
(1) Turn the cross handle (4) of the 98D29208246000 SAFETY DEVICE-RAT or the 98D29208246001 DEVICE-SAFETY,RAT anti-clockwise until there is sufficient clearance between the thrust plate (8) and the RAT (1).
(2) Loosen the cross handle (3), move the thrust piece (7) together and remove the 98D29208246000 SAFETY DEVICE-RAT or the 98D29208246001 DEVICE-SAFETY,RAT (6) from the structure (2).

B. Close Access
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) In the avionics compartment, close the access panels of the AC/DC emergency power center 106VU and the BATTERY power center 105VU.
(3) Close the access doors 812 and 822.
(4) Close the access door 195BB.
(5) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
(6) Remove the access platform(s).
