Subtask 27-64-00-040-053-B
A. Deactivation of the Spoiler Servo-Control
NOTE: When you deactivate a spoiler servo-control, it is not necessary to deactivate the symmetrical spoiler servo-control on the other wing (the Spoiler Elevator Computer (SEC) deactivates the symmetrical spoiler servo-control automatically).
   (1) If there is no plate with the 'O' and 'M' indications on the maintenance device (PRE VSB 31077-27-15 or PRE VSB 31077-27-08):
     (a) Put the servo-control in the Maintenance position:
CAUTION: DO NOT APPLY A HIGH TORQUE LOAD ON THE KEY SPOILER MAINTENANCE TOOL WHEN YOU SET THE SERVOCONTROL TO OPERATIONAL MODE OR MAINTENANCE MODE. IF YOU APPLY A HIGH TORQUE LOAD, IT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE TOOL AND/OR TO THE SERVOCONTROL.
       1 Install the 98D27603002000 KEY-SPOILER MAINTENANCE98D27603002001 KEY-SPOILER MAINTENANCE (3) on the servo-control and turn it a quarter turn counterclockwise.
NOTE: The necessary torque to operate the maintenance device is 0.350 m.daN (30.97 lbf.in). If 0.350 m.daN (30.97 lbf.in) is not sufficient to turn the KEY-SPOILER MAINTENANCE, it is possible that the maintenance device is damaged. To prevent more damage to the maintenance device, remove the spoiler servo-control and send it back to the supplier for analysis.
2 If you cannot turn the spoiler maintenance key, use the TOMMY BAR DIA 4 MM (0,157 IN) - METALLIC.
     (b) Disconnect the electrical connector (2) from the receptacle (1) of the servo-control.
     (c) Put the CAP - BLANKING on the electrical connector (2) and the receptacle (1).
     (d) Attach the electrical connector (2) to a hydraulic line with the TIE WRAP.
     (e) Make sure that the spoiler is in the fully retracted position.
     (f) Make sure that the defective servo-control stays hydraulically connected to the aircraft hydraulic system.
     (g) Put the servo-control in the Operation position:
CAUTION: DO NOT APPLY A HIGH TORQUE LOAD ON THE KEY SPOILER MAINTENANCE TOOL WHEN YOU SET THE SERVOCONTROL TO OPERATIONAL MODE OR MAINTENANCE MODE. IF YOU APPLY A HIGH TORQUE LOAD, IT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE TOOL AND/OR TO THE SERVOCONTROL.
       1 Turn the 98D27603002000 KEY-SPOILER MAINTENANCE98D27603002001 KEY-SPOILER MAINTENANCE (3) a quarter turn clockwise and remove it.
     (h) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
     (i) Make sure that you cannot move the spoiler manually:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT NO SPOILER MAINTENANCE KEY STAYS ENGAGED IN THE MAINTENANCE DEVICE HOUSING. AERODYNAMIC FORCES WILL CAUSE UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE SPOILER IF THE MAINTENANCE KEY STAYS IN ITS HOUSING.
1 Gradually apply a manual force on the spoiler surface trailing-edge.
a If you can extend the spoiler manually with the servo-control in the Operation position, replace the spoiler servo-control (Ref. AMM TASK 27-64-51-000-004) and (Ref. AMM TASK 27-64-51-400-004).
   (2) If there is a plate with the 'O' and 'M' indications on the maintenance device (POST GOODRICH VSB 31077-27-15):
     (a) Put the servo-control in the Maintenance position:
CAUTION: DO NOT APPLY A HIGH TORQUE LOAD ON THE KEY SPOILER MAINTENANCE TOOL WHEN YOU SET THE SERVOCONTROL TO OPERATIONAL MODE OR MAINTENANCE MODE. IF YOU APPLY A HIGH TORQUE LOAD, IT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE TOOL AND/OR TO THE SERVOCONTROL.
1 Install the 98D27603002000 KEY-SPOILER MAINTENANCE98D27603002001 KEY-SPOILER MAINTENANCE (3) on the servo-control and turn it a quarter turn counterclockwise to the 'M' position (Maintenance).
1 Turn the 98D27603002000 KEY-SPOILER MAINTENANCE98D27603002001 KEY-SPOILER MAINTENANCE (3) a quarter turn clockwise to the 'O' position (Operation) and remove it.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE STOP OF THE HEXAGONAL-HEAD CONTROL SWITCH IS AGAINST THE LETTER 'O' ON THE HOUSING. IF IT IS AGAINST THE LETTER 'M', AERODYNAMIC FORCES WILL CAUSE UNWANTED MOVEMENT OF THE SPOILER AND POSSIBLE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
1 Gradually apply a manual force on the spoiler surface trailing-edge and make sure that you cannot extend the spoiler.
a If you can extend the spoiler manually with the servo-control in the Operation position, replace the spoiler servo-control (Ref. AMM TASK 27-64-51-000-004) and (Ref. AMM TASK 27-64-51-400-004).
