4. Procedure
Subtask 27-24-00-420-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the Reference Triangle for the Rudder Neutral Position

NOTE: If the reference triangle on the tail cone structure is not in position, this installation is not necessary.
NOTE: If the initial adjustment of two or three servocontrols did not change, you can find the rudder neutral position without the TR103-60 VTP-RUDDER ZERO DEGREE TOOL A320.
   (1) If two or three servocontrols are not adjusted correctly, use the TR103-60 VTP-RUDDER ZERO DEGREE TOOL A320 to find the rudder neutral position.
   (2) Find the rudder neutral position with two correctly adjusted servocontrols.
     (a) Pressurize one of the two correctly adjusted servocontrols.
       1 On maintenance panel 50VU:
Make sure that the applicable HYD/LEAK MEASUREMENT VALVES pushbutton switch is pushed (the OFF legend is off):
  • For the lower servocontrol (1025GM) (4): G pushbutton switch
  • For the middle servocontrol (3025GM) (3): Y pushbutton switch
  • For the upper servocontrol (2025GM) (2): B pushbutton switch.
2 Release the other two HYD/LEAK MEASUREMENT VALVES pushbutton switches (the OFF legends come on).
     (b) On the tail cone structure, make a mark to show the rudder trailing-edge axis that the 98D27303000001 LOAD,APPLICATION TOOL-ELEVATOR, AILERON, RUDDER (5) gives.
     (c) Pressurize the other correctly adjusted servocontrol and depressurize the first one:
       1 On maintenance panel 50VU:
Push the applicable HYD/LEAK MEASUREMENT VALVES pushbutton switch (the OFF legend goes off):
  • For the lower servocontrol (1025GM) (4): G pushbutton switch
  • For the middle servocontrol (3025GM) (3): Y pushbutton switch
  • For the upper servocontrol (2025GM) (2): B pushbutton switch.
2 Release the other HYD/LEAK MEASUREMENT VALVES pushbutton switch (the OFF legend comes on).
     (d) On the tail cone structure, make a mark to show the rudder trailing-edge axis that the 98D27303000001 LOAD,APPLICATION TOOL-ELEVATOR, AILERON, RUDDER (5) gives.
1 If the rudder neutral position is the same for the two servocontrols, it is not necessary to install the TR103-60 VTP-RUDDER ZERO DEGREE TOOL A320.
a Install the new AIPC 11-21-27-02-010 REF (6) on the tail cone with its center of gravity aligned with the rudder trailing-edge axis that the 98D27303000001 LOAD,APPLICATION TOOL-ELEVATOR, AILERON, RUDDER (5) gives (Ref. AMM TASK 11-00-00-960-001), and go to paragraph B.
2 If the rudder neutral position is not the same for the two servocontrols, install the TR103-60 VTP-RUDDER ZERO DEGREE TOOL A320. Continue the procedure.
   (3) Depressurize the aircraft hydraulic systems
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-23-00-864-001) (Ref. AMM TASK 29-24-00-864-001) (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-003).
   (4) Find the rudder neutral position with the TR103-60 VTP-RUDDER ZERO DEGREE TOOL A320 as follows:
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE THIS TOOL, BECAUSE IT CONTAINS CLASS 2 LASER EQUIPMENT.
  • DO NOT LOOK DIRECTLY INTO THE BEAM
  • DO NOT POINT THE BEAM AT OTHER PERSONS.
THE LASER CAN CAUSE INJURY IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE PRECAUTIONS.
     (a) Install the TR103-60 VTP-RUDDER ZERO DEGREE TOOL A320 on the vertical stabilizer:
1 Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with the Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Isopropyl Alcohol - (Material No.08BBD1) to clean the control surface where you will install the different parts of the TR103-60 VTP-RUDDER ZERO DEGREE TOOL A320.
2 Install the breaking corner (11) of the tool on the hinge strap of the end box ceiling, on the trailing edge of the vertical stabilizer below rib 4. This area is below the top left corner of access panel 325BL, below the horizontal rivet line.
3 Attach the suction foot of the breaking corner (11) with the clamp.
4 Install the safety suction foot to safety the breaking corner (11).
5 Install the laser (10) of the tool on the lower hoisting point of the left side of the vertical stabilizer.
a Turn the screw only two or three turns. Do not fully tighten the screw.
       6 Start the laser (10).
7 Turn the laser (10) on the hoisting point until the beam aligns with the target line on the breaking corner (11).
8 Attach the suction foot of the laser (10) with the clamp.
9 Apply the Adhesive Film Tape-Masking - - (Material No.05RDA1) on the vertical stabilizer between the laser (10) and the target line of the braking corner (11) to see the laser beam clearly.
10 Install the target plate (12) of the tool on the rudder trailing edge with the horizontal line at approximately 1.3 m (4.27 ft.) from the rudder trailing-edge bottom. The laser beam aligns with the horizontal line on the target plate (12).
   (5) Manually move the rudder until the laser-beam center point is between the two adjacent lines of the vertical target centerline, on the target plate (12).
NOTE: At this time, the rudder is in the mechanical neutral position.
   (6) Install the new AIPC 11-21-27-02-010 REF (6) on the tail cone with its center of gravity aligned with the rudder trailing-edge axis that the 98D27303000001 LOAD,APPLICATION TOOL-ELEVATOR, AILERON, RUDDER (5) gives (Ref. AMM TASK 11-00-00-960-001).
   (7) Remove the TR103-60 VTP-RUDDER ZERO DEGREE TOOL A320 from the vertical stabilizer:
     (a) Stop the laser (10) and remove it from the vertical stabilizer.
     (b) Remove the breaking corner (11) from the vertical stabilizer.
     (c) Remove the target plate (12) from the rudder trailing edge.
