Replacement of the Tail Cone Reference Triangle

1. Reason for the Job
This procedure gives information to replace the reference triangle on the tail cone after adjustment of the rudder or elevator to the neutral position.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 11-00-00-120-053-B
A. Removal of the Elevator Reference Triangle and Preparation of the Surface
   (1) Remove the old reference triangle with a SPATULA - NON METALLIC.
   (2) Do the step that follow to remove the remaining adhesive compound:
     (a) Clean the contact surfaces with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) soaked with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
     (b) Remove the remaining adhesive coumpound with a SPATULA - NON METALLIC.
     (c) Use adhesive tape to show the limits of the bonded area.
     (d) Make sure that the contact surfaces are in the correct condition and apply protection if necessary SRM 512111 and SRM 512311.
     (e) Apply finish paint on the contact surfaces.
     (f) Remove the adhesive tape.
   (3) Preparation for installation
     (a) Clean the contact surfaces with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) soaked with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
     (b) Use adhesive tape to show the limits of the bonded area.
     (c) Rub the contact surfaces with emery paper grade 320.
     (d) Remove the adhesive tape.
     (e) Clean the contact surfaces with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) soaked with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .

B. Removal of the Rudder Reference Plate (if installed) and Preparation of the Surface
   (1) Drill out the rivets that attach the reference plate to the structure.
   (2) Remove the reference plate with a SPATULA - NON METALLIC.
   (3) Discard the reference plate.
   (4) Remove the remaining sealant from the area and clean with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) and Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
   (5) Install eight blind rivets.
   (6) Close the rivet holes with Polysulfide Sealant_General Purpose Brushable - (Material No.06AAA1) .
   (7) Let the sealant cure.
   (8) Apply surface protection SRM 517300.
   (9) Let the surface proctection cure.
   (10) Clean the area with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) and Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .

C. Removal of the Rudder Reference Triangle (if installed) and Preparation of the Surface
   (1) Remove the old reference triangle with a SPATULA - NON METALLIC.
   (2) Do the step that follow to remove the remaining adhesive compound:

     (e) Apply finish paint on the contact surfaces.
     (f) Remove the adhesive tape.
   (3) Preparation for installation
     (a) Clean the contact surfaces with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) soaked with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
     (b) Use adhesive tape to show the limits of the bonded area.
     (c) Rub the contact surfaces with emery paper grade 320.
     (d) Remove the adhesive tape.
     (e) Clean the contact surfaces with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) soaked with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .

D. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Before you install the reference triangle make sure that the rudder and/or the elevator are in the correct position
4. Procedure
Subtask 11-00-00-915-071-A
A. Installation of the Elevator or Rudder Reference Triangle
   (1) Remove the protection paper from the reference triangle.
   (2) Install the reference triangle with Epoxy Adhesive-- - Legacy 3 (Material No.05EML7) . Refer to the Illustrated Part Catalog AIPC 11-21-27-02.
NOTE: The centre of the triangle must be aligned with the trailing edge of the elevator. The direction of the triangle is not important.
   (3) Use adhesive tape to hold the reference triangle during the curing time.
5. Close-up

A. Put the aircraft back to its initial configuration.
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
