A. Visual Inspection of the Oil System (Fan Cowls and Thrust Reversers Open)
(1) Do the visual inspection for sign of leakage of the components that follow:
(a) If there is damage, replace the tube (Ref. AMM TASK 72-00-00-200-815).
(3) Leakage is not permitted.
(a) Clean the suspected area with Stoddard solvent (Material No.CP2011) or Acetone (Material No.CP1039) or Ardrox 552 (Material No.CP2559) or Turco IND 79 (Material No.CP2560) or Mag-chem tecksol (Material No.CP2566) or Degreasol 99 R (Material No.CP2584) or Mag-chem skysol (Material No.CP2656) or White spirit (Material No.CP2010) .
(b) Alternate procedure available. Operate the engine at 70 percent of N1 or above to pressurize the oil system and to get accurate reading during leak test (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-710-815).
(d) Do the visual inspection for signs of leakage of the suspected area.
(e) If leakage is identified, tighten the connecting nuts to the appropriate torque values and/or replace the defective components (Ref. AMM TASK 72-63-00-000-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 72-63-00-400-802).
(5) If there is no external oil leakage, do the visual inspection of the oil supply tube (11), the oil supply-damper tube (10) and the oil scavenge tube (12) at the TRF (13) strut port interface for oil leakage and coking.
(a) If there is an oil leakage and a sufficient quantity of oil coking at the TRF (13) interface, do the visual inspection of the aft sump oil system (Ref. AMM TASK 79-00-00-210-815).
(b) If the oil scavenge tube (12) drain hole (15) is found to be blocked, contact CFM cfm.csc@safrangroup.com.
(c) If the oil supply tube (11) and/or oil supply-damper tube (10) drain holes (14) are found to be blocked, do the following steps:
5. Close-up(1) Do the visual inspection for sign of leakage of the components that follow:
- Internal parts of the left fan cowl panel (1)
- Internal parts of the right fan cowl panel (2)
- Internal parts of the left thrust reverser (4)
- Internal parts of the right thrust reverser (3)
- Engine surface
- Oil tank (5)
- Non-return valve (6)
- Lubrication unit (9)
- Accessory drive train (7) and fan frame (8) interfaces.
(a) If there is damage, replace the tube (Ref. AMM TASK 72-00-00-200-815).
(3) Leakage is not permitted.
NOTE: It is usual to find oil marks (spots) on the thrust reverser cowls at locations facing with the Turbine Rear Frame (TRF) holes:
- Strut 7 oil supply port at the 5 o'clock location
- Strut 8 oil scavenge port at the 6 o'clock location
- Strut 9 oil drain port at the 7 o'clock location
NOTE: Staining or wetting is permitted.
NOTE: Some components may show seepage during the production and delivery process.
During the engine assembly, the seals, gaskets, joints and B-nuts are lubricated with production assembly oil or vaseline. During the first run flight, this lubrication can form drops on components.
Production assembly oil is dark brown compared to engine oil which is a golden color.
Vaseline can be distinguished from fuel and oil by its thickness at room temperature.
Vaseline is less fluid than fuel or engine oil.
The presence of assembly lubrication does not indicate oil or fuel leak and is normal for new engine operation.
In case of production assembly oil or vaseline presence, clean the area according to Para. 4.A.(4)(a).
In case of doubt on the nature of the fluid, contact CFM support cfm.csc@safrangroup.com.
(4) If the leakage is suspected, do the steps as follows: During the engine assembly, the seals, gaskets, joints and B-nuts are lubricated with production assembly oil or vaseline. During the first run flight, this lubrication can form drops on components.
Production assembly oil is dark brown compared to engine oil which is a golden color.
Vaseline can be distinguished from fuel and oil by its thickness at room temperature.

NOTE: In some marginal cases, leaks at the Accessory Gearbox (AGB) pad seal or damaged O-rings at equipment drive shaft level can be isolated by engine runs at higher engine power runs.
(c) Alternate procedure. Do the static leak check of AGB pad seals (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-790-807).

- Remove the affected tube (Ref. AMM TASK 72-59-81-000-801) (supply) and/or (Ref. AMM TASK 72-59-81-000-802) (supply-damper).
- Do the visual inspection of the aft sump oil system (Ref. AMM TASK 79-00-00-210-815).
- Remove coked oil in the TRF (13) strut, if any.
