1. Reason for the Job
NOTE: The two upper actuators are also known as the synchronized locking feedback actuators (SLFA) (FINs 3001KM1 and 3001KM4). The right-hand lower actuator is also known as the synchronized manual locking actuator (SMLA) (FIN 3001KM2). The left-hand lower actuator is also known as the synchronized non-locking actuator (SNLA) (FIN 3001KM3).

3. Job Set-up

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Make sure that you did the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for nacelle maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-807).

E. Depressurize the aircraft hydraulic systems
   (1) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to pressurize the applicable system.
     (a) On the HYD/FUEL panel 40VU of the overhead panel
     (b) On the ground service panel of the applicable hydraulic system.
   (2) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)
     (a) Make sure that the Green hydraulic system is depressurized
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-001).
     (b) Make sure that the reservoir of the Green hydraulic system is depressurized
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-14-00-614-001).
   (3) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 2)
     (a) Make sure that the Yellow hydraulic system is depressurized.
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-002).
     (b) Make sure that the reservoir of the Yellow hydraulic system is depressurized.
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-14-00-614-001).
4. Procedure
Subtask 78-31-49-420-177-A
A. Installation of the Thrust Reverser Hydraulic Tubes
WARNING: DO NOT GET HYDRAULIC FLUID ON YOUR SKIN, IN YOUR EYES OR IN YOUR MOUTH. HYDRAULIC FLUID IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND INTO YOUR BODY. FLUSH HYDRAULIC FLUID FROM YOUR EYES, MOUTH OR SKIN WITH WATER. GET MEDICAL AID IF YOU GET HYDRAULIC FLUID IN YOUR EYES OR MOUTH.
WARNING: WEAR APPLICABLE PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT (PPE) WHEN YOU DO THIS TASK. BEFORE YOU USE PPE, READ, UNDERSTAND AND OBEY ALL INSTRUCTIONS FOR ITS USE. THESE INSTRUCTIONS INCLUDE INSTRUCTIONS FROM THE MANUFACTURER, YOUR EMPLOYER AND GOVERNMENT REGULATIONS. YOU CAN GET INJURED IF YOU DO NOT USE PPE. GET INSTRUCTIONS FROM YOUR EMPLOYER ON WHICH PPE IS NECESSARY.
CAUTION: DO NOT LET HYDRAULIC FLUID FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED HYDRAULIC FLUID MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY WITH A CLEAN LINT FREE CLOTH. THE FLUID CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.
   (1) Installation of the Thrust Reverser Right Hydraulic Tubes
     (a) Move the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position immediately forward of the right lower actuator.
     (b) Remove all CAP - PROTECTION and COVER - PROTECTION from openings, tubes, hoses and connectors.
     (c) Lubricate the threads of the bolts (60), (62), (80), (82), (84), (86), (88), (110) and (115) with LUBRICATING OIL TURBINE ENGINE SYNT BASE (Material No.CPNCL00062) .
     (d) Install the P-clamps (61), (63), (79), (81), (83), (85), (87), (111) and (116) on the hydraulic tubes (59), (64) and (74).
     (e) Use the record made during the removal procedure to set the clamps in the correct locations and positions.
CAUTION: WHEN YOU INSTALL THE FLEX HOSES, USE A SECOND WRENCH TO APPLY COUNTER TORQUE TO THE ANTI ROTATION DEVICES OF THE HOSES. IF THE HOSES HAVE BENDS, MAKE SURE THAT, AFTER INSTALLATION, THE BENDS ARE IN THE VERTICAL POSITION AND THAT THERE IS NO TORSION IN THE HOSES. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS, DAMAGE TO THE FLEX HOSES CAN OCCUR.
     (f) Install the hydraulic tube (74) as follows:
NOTE: Each time triple-torque is necessary do as follows:
  • TORQUE the connection to the necessary torque value.
  • Loosen the connection and TORQUE it to the necessary torque value a second time.
  • TORQUE the connection to the necessary torque value a third time.
       1 Install the hydraulic tube (74) from the right lower actuator (96) to the right upper actuator (70).
       2 From top to bottom, attach the P-clamps (87), (85), (83), (81), and (79) to the support brackets (89), (90), (91), (92) and (93) with the bolts (88), (86), (84), (82) and (80). Tighten the bolts with your hand.
       3 TRIPLE TORQUE the coupling nut (97) to between 6.21 and 5.31 m.daN (45.80 and 39.16 lbf.ft ) T.
       4 TRIPLE TORQUE the coupling nut (73) to between 6.21 and 5.31 m.daN (45.80 and 39.16 lbf.ft )
T.
       5 TORQUE the bolts (80), (82), (84), (86) and (88) to between 0.43 and 0.36 m.daN (38.05 and 31.86 lbf.in )
T.
     (g) Install the hydraulic tube (64) as follows:
       1 Install the nut (67) and the new key
AIPC 78-31-49-05-020 WASHER (68) on the hydraulic connection (66).
       2 Put the hydraulic connection (66) through the opening in the support bracket (69).
       3 Loosely install the new key
AIPC 78-31-49-05-020 WASHER (52) and the nut (51) on the hydraulic connection (66).
       4 Connect the coupling nut (72) to the right upper actuator (70).
       5 Attach the P-clamp (63) to the support bracket (65) with the bolt (62). Tighten the bolt with your hand.
       6 TORQUE the nuts (67) and (51) to between 3.48 and 2.96 m.daN (25.66 and 21.83 lbf.ft )
T.
       7 TRIPLE TORQUE the coupling nut (72) to between 6.21 and 5.31 m.daN (45.80 and 39.16 lbf.ft )
T.
       8 TORQUE the bolt (62) to between 0.43 and 0.36 m.daN (38.05 and 31.86 lbf.in )
T.
       9 Connect the pylon hose (50) to the hydraulic connection (66).
       10 TRIPLE TORQUE the coupling nut of the pylon hose (50) to between 6.21 and 5.31 m.daN (45.80 and 39.16 lbf.ft )
T.
     (h) Install the hydraulic tube (59) as follows:
       1 Install the nut (57) and, if damaged, a new key
AIPC 78-31-49-05-100 WASHER (56) on the hydraulic connection (58).
       2 Put the hydraulic connection (58) through the opening in the support bracket (69).
       3 Loosely install the new key
AIPC 78-31-49-05-100 WASHER (55) and the nut (54) on the hydraulic connection (58).
       4 Connect the coupling nut (76) to the right upper actuator (70).
       5 Attach three P-clamps (61), (111), and (116) to the support bracket (65), (114), and (117) with three bolts (60), (110), and (115). Tighten the bolts with your hand.
NOTE: If necessary to get access, remove the two bolts (113) and the harness support bracket (114).
       6 TRIPLE TORQUE the coupling nut (76) to between 3.16 and 2.43 m.daN (23.30 and 17.92 lbf.ft )
T.
       7 TORQUE the nuts (57) and (54) to between 2.26 and 2.03 m.daN (16.67 and 14.97 lbf.ft )
T.
       8 TORQUE the three bolt (60), (110), and (115) to between 0.43 and 0.36 m.daN (38.05 and 31.86 lbf.in )
T.
       9 Connect the pylon hose (53) to the hydraulic connection (58).
       10 TRIPLE TORQUE the coupling nut of the pylon hose (53) to between 3.62 and 2.82 m.daN (26.70 and 20.80 lbf.ft )
T.
CAUTION: WHEN YOU INSTALL THE FLEX HOSES, USE A SECOND WRENCH TO APPLY COUNTER TORQUE TO THE ANTI ROTATION DEVICES OF THE HOSES. IF THE HOSES HAVE BENDS, MAKE SURE THAT, AFTER INSTALLATION, THE BENDS ARE IN THE VERTICAL POSITION AND THAT THERE IS NO TORSION IN THE HOSES. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS, DAMAGE TO THE FLEX HOSES CAN OCCUR.
   (2) Installation of the Thrust Reverser Left Hydraulic Tubes
NOTE: Each time triple-torque is necessary do as follows:
  • TORQUE the connection to the necessary torque value.
  • Loosen the connection and TORQUE it to the necessary torque value a second time.
  • TORQUE the connection to the necessary torque value a third time.
     (a) Move the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position immediately forward of the left lower actuator.
     (b) Remove all the CAP - PROTECTION and COVER - PROTECTION from the openings, tubes, hoses, and connectors.
     (c) Lubricate the threads of the bolts (34), (36), (38), (40) and (42) with LUBRICATING OIL TURBINE ENGINE SYNT BASE (Material No.
CPNCL00062) .
     (d) Install the P-clamps (35), (37), (39), (41) and (43) on the hydraulic tube (22).
     (e) Use the record made during the removal procedure to set the clamps in the correct locations and positions.
     (f) Install the hydraulic tube (22) as follows:
       1 Attach the coupling nut (46) to the left lower actuator (47) and the coupling nut (21) to the left upper actuator (24).
       2 From bottom to top, attach the P-clamps (35), (37), (39), (41) and (43) to the support brackets (33), (32), (31), (30) and (29) with the bolts (34), (36), (38), (40) and (42). Tighten the bolts with your hand.
       3 TRIPLE TORQUE the coupling nut (46) to between 6.21 and 5.31 m.daN (45.80 and 39.16 lbf.ft ) T.
       4 TRIPLE TORQUE the coupling nut (21) to between 6.21 and 5.31 m.daN (45.80 and 39.16 lbf.ft )
T.
       5 TORQUE the bolts (34), (36), (38), (40) and (42) to between 0.43 and 0.36 m.daN (38.05 and 31.86 lbf.in )
T.
     (g) Install the hydraulic tube (19) as follows:
       1 Connect the coupling nut (26) to the Directional Control Unit (DCU) (4).
       2 Connect the coupling nut (20) to the T-Fitting (118).
       3 TRIPLE TORQUE the coupling nut (26) to between 8.42 and 7.01 m.daN (62.09 and 51.70 lbf.ft )

       4 TRIPLE TORQUE the coupling nut (20) to between 8.42 and 7.01 m.daN (62.09 and 51.70 lbf.ft )
T.
     (h) Install the hydraulic tube (14) as follows:
       1 Install the nut (12) and the new key
AIPC 78-31-49-05-020 WASHER (13) on the hydraulic connection (11).
       2 Put the hydraulic connection (11) through the opening in the support bracket (3).
       3 Loosely install the new key
AIPC 78-31-49-05-020 WASHER (2) and nut (1) on the hydraulic connection (11).
       4 Connect the coupling nut (5) to the DCU (4).
       5 Connect the coupling nut (23) to the left upper actuator (24).
       6 TORQUE the nuts (1) and (12) to between 3.48 and 2.96 m.daN (25.66 and 21.83 lbf.ft )
T.
       7 TRIPLE TORQUE the coupling nut (5) to between 6.21 and 5.31 m.daN (45.80 and 39.16 lbf.ft )
T.
       8 TRIPLE TORQUE the coupling nut (23) to between 6.21 and 5.31 m.daN (45.80 and 39.16 lbf.ft )
T.
       9 Connect the pylon hose (18) to the hydraulic connection (11).
       10 TRIPLE TORQUE the coupling nut of the pylon hose (18) to between 6.21 and 5.31 m.daN (45.80 and 39.16 lbf.ft )
T.
     (i) Install the hydraulic tube (7) as follows:
       1 Install the nut (9) and the new key
AIPC 78-31-49-05-020 WASHER (10) on the hydraulic connection (8).
       2 Put the hydraulic connection (8) through the opening in the support bracket (3).
       3 Loosely install the new key
AIPC 78-31-49-05-020 WASHER (15) and the nut (16) on the hydraulic connection (8).
       4 Connect the coupling nut (6) to the DCU (4).
       5 Connect the coupling nut (25) to the left upper actuator (24).
       6 TRIPLE TORQUE the coupling nut (6) to between 6.21 and 5.31 m.daN (45.80 and 39.16 lbf.ft )

       7 TRIPLE TORQUE the coupling nut (25) to between 3.16 and 2.43 m.daN (23.30 and 17.92 lbf.ft )
T.
       8 TORQUE the nuts (9) and (16) to between 3.48 and 2.96 m.daN (25.66 and 21.83 lbf.ft )
T.
       9 Connect the pylon hose (17) to the hydraulic connection (8).
       10 TRIPLE TORQUE the coupling nut of the pylon hose (17) to between 6.21 and 5.31 m.daN (45.80 and 39.16 lbf.ft )

5. Close-up

A. Close Access
   (1) Install the upper flex tube and flex shaft onto the thrust reverser (
Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-44-400-802).
   (2) Connect the electrical harnesses as follows (Ref. AMM TASK 70-70-00-910-804):
     (a) Connect the two electrical harnesses to the DCU (4) (Ref. AMM TASK 71-51-43-400-806).
     (b) Connect the two electrical harnesses attached to the proximity sensors on the upper left actuator (Ref. AMM TASK 71-51-43-400-806).
   (3) Synchronize the thrust reverser actuators (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-41-820-801).
   (4) Close the thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-410-806).
