ZONE: 400
1. Reason for the Job
Use this procedure to start the engine manually.
NOTE: During a motoring sequence on the ground, the Electronic Engine Control (EEC) automatically determines if motoring to start is required for BOWED ROTOR PROTECTION. The EEC keeps the N2 speed at a low value (approximately 10% N2) for a calculated duration based on time since shutdown, Outside Air Temperature (OAT) and engine turbine temperature. During motoring to start, a "COOLING" indication is displayed on the upper ECAM display unit. When the motoring to start period is complete, the EEC will continue to normal engine start. If N2 exceeds the maximum speed for BOWED ROTOR PROTECTION during motoring to start, the EEC will abort the motoring and the warning ENG X START FAULT (BOWED ROTOR PROTECTION) will be displayed.

C. Unusual condition to stop the start procedure:
NOTE: During the manual start procedure, the EEC will not automatically stop the start procedure. Thus it is necessary to do the standard monitoring of the engine parameters.
   (1) On the lower and upper ECAM display units, monitor the engine start and the engine parameters for unusual conditions:
     (a) Monitor the engine start for no light condition.
     (b) Monitor the engine start for no EGT increase or N2 and N1 acceleration that is more than the N2 and N1 at the starter maximum speed.
     (c) If the N2 acceleration is slow, this is an indication of a possible hot or hung start. If this slow N2 indication also has a fast increase in EGT and is near the start EGT limit, you must manually stop the engine start procedure. Stop the engine immediately if the EGT is almost at or more than the EGT start limit.
NOTE: You must make a record of for how long time the EGT was more than the limit and you must also make a record of the highest temperature for subsequent analysis.

D. If it is necessary to stop the start procedure, do the steps that follow:
CAUTION: AFTER A FAILED OR ABORTED START, IF YOU DO AN AUTOMATIC START WHEN N2 IS MORE THAN 10%, THERE IS A RISK OF EGT OVERTEMPERATURE.
CAUTION: IF YOU FAIL TO DO THE STEPS THAT FOLLOW, A HUNG START CAN BE THE RESULT.
   (1) Move the ENG MASTER 1(2) control switch to the OFF position.
     (a) If the engine start has been aborted, dry motor the engine for 30 seconds with the starter to remove any remaining fuel (fuel that has not burned) from burner and turbines and to decrease the EGT.
   (2) Dry-motor the engine:
     (a) At 20% N2 speed or less, set the ENG MODE selector switch to CRANK.
     (b) Set the ENG MAN START 1(2) pushbutton switch to ON.
     (c) After 30 seconds, set the ENG MAN START 1(2) pushbutton switch to OFF.
     (d) Set the ENG/SEL selector switch to NORM.
   (3) In case of EGT overtemperature, operate the engine after an EGT overtemperature (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-818).
   (4) In case of engine surge or stall, operate the engine after engine surge or stall (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-819).
