Operate the Engine after Engine Surge or Stall
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE AFTER SHUTDOWN. THE ENGINE CAN STAY HOT FOR A LONG TIME. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, INJURY CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION:
ENGINE SURGES AND STALLS CAN DAMAGE THE ENGINE. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS THAT FOLLOW, DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION:
IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS THAT FOLLOW, DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN BE THE RESULT.

A. Operate the Engine after Engine Surge or Stall
(1) If the engine surges or stalls, but recovers when the power lever is set to MIN IDLE, and the Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) and all the other parameters are within limits, do the steps that follow:
(a) Quickly and immediately move the engine 1 or engine 2 power lever to MIN IDLE.
(b) Check the EGT and other engine parameters to determine if there have been any limits exceeded.
(c) Operate the engine for ten minutes at MIN IDLE and continue the usual engine operation.
(2) If the engine surges or stalls but recovers when the thrust lever is set to MIN IDLE, and the EGT is increasing or is out of the limits, do the steps that follow. Also, refer to (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-818).
(a) Quickly and immediately move the engine 1 or engine 2 power lever to MIN IDLE.
(b) Check the EGT and other engine parameters to determine if there have been any limits exceeded.
(c) Operate the engine for ten minutes at MIN IDLE if the conditions that follow are applicable:
2 The EGT decreases to the usual idle value.
(d) After ten minutes at MIN IDLE, shutdown the engine (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-824).
1 Dry-motor the engine.
2 Determine the reason for the surge or stall, and correct any discrepancies.
(e) Start the engine again, if necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-821).

(b) Check the EGT and other engine parameters to determine if there have been any limits exceeded.
(c) Operate the engine for ten minutes at MIN IDLE if the conditions that follow are applicable:
CAUTION:
SHUTDOWN THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY IF THE EGT CONTINUES TO INCREASE. SHUTDOWN THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY IF YOU KNOW THAT CONTINUED ENGINE OPERATION WILL CAUSE MORE DAMAGE.
1 The engine does not surge or stall at IDLE. 2 The EGT decreases to the usual idle value.
(d) After ten minutes at MIN IDLE, shutdown the engine (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-824).
1 Dry-motor the engine.
CAUTION:
DO NOT DRY MOTOR THE ENGINE IF YOU KNOW THAT CONTINUED ENGINE ROTOR ROTATION WILL CAUSE MORE DAMAGE.
a Dry-motor the engine until the EGT is less than 356 deg.F (180 deg.C), if possible (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-817). 2 Determine the reason for the surge or stall, and correct any discrepancies.
(e) Start the engine again, if necessary (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-821).
