Operate the Engine after Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) Overtemperature (No Surge or Stall)
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE AFTER SHUTDOWN. THE ENGINE CAN STAY HOT FOR A LONG TIME. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, INJURY CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION:
HIGH EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURES CAN DAMAGE THE ENGINE. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS THAT FOLLOW, DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION:
IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS THAT FOLLOW, DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN BE THE RESULT.

A. Operate Engine after EGT Overtemperature
(1) Do this procedure after engine EGT overtemperature with no surge or stall.
(a) Immediately move the engine thrust lever to MIN IDLE on the center pedestal.
(b) Operate the engine.
(c) After ten minutes at MIN IDLE, shutdown the engine (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-824).
(d) After the engine shutdown, do the steps that follow:
1 Check if an EGT exceedence has occurred. If an EGT exceedence has occurred, an EGT exceedence report will be created.
2 Make a record of how much time the EGT was more than the limit and the highest temperature for subsequent analysis.
3 Keep this record in the engine log.
1 Do the necessary visual inspections after engine overtemperature.
2 Find and correct the cause of the overtemperature.
(1) Do this procedure after engine EGT overtemperature with no surge or stall.
(a) Immediately move the engine thrust lever to MIN IDLE on the center pedestal.
(b) Operate the engine.
CAUTION:
SHUTDOWN THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY IF THE EGT CONTINUES TO INCREASE. SHUTDOWN THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY IF YOU KNOW THAT CONTINUED ENGINE OPERATION WILL CAUSE MORE DAMAGE.
1 Operate the engine for ten minutes at MIN IDLE if the engine EGT decreases to the usual idle value.
NOTE: It is very important to record and retain records of EGT overtemperatures.
(e) Check the operating or starting EGT overtemperature charts, (minutes) and (0-60 seconds), shown in inspection of the Engine after Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) Overtemperature (Ref. AMM TASK 72-00-00-210-809). 1 Do the necessary visual inspections after engine overtemperature.
2 Find and correct the cause of the overtemperature.
