Operate the Engine after Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) Overtemperature (with Surge or Stall) [PW11]

TASK 71-00-00-860-820-A
Operate the Engine after Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) Overtemperature (with Surge or Stall)

WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE AFTER SHUTDOWN. THE ENGINE CAN STAY HOT FOR A LONG TIME. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, INJURY CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS THAT FOLLOW, DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN BE THE RESULT.
1. Reason for the Job
Use this procedure after engine EGT overtemperature with surge or stall and engine N2 at or above engine running speed.

A. Operate the Engine after EGT Overtemperature
   (1) Do this procedure after engine EGT overtemperature with engine surge or stall.
CAUTION: HIGH EXHAUST GAS TEMPERATURES CAN DAMAGE THE ENGINE. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS THAT FOLLOW, DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR.
     (a) On the center pedestal, move the engine power lever to MIN IDLE.
     (b) Operate the engine for ten minutes at MIN IDLE if the conditions that follow are applicable:
CAUTION: SHUTDOWN THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY IF THE EGT CONTINUES TO INCREASE. SHUTDOWN THE ENGINE IMMEDIATELY IF YOU KNOW THAT CONTINUED ENGINE OPERATION WILL CAUSE MORE DAMAGE.
1 If the engine does not surge or stall at idle.
2 If the EGT decreases to the usual idle value.
     (c) After ten minutes at MIN IDLE, shutdown the engine (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-824).
     (d) Dry-motor the engine until the EGT is less than 180 deg.C (356 deg.F) (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-817).
     (e) After the engine shutdown, do the steps that follow:
1 Check if an EGT exceedence has occurred. If and EGT exceedence has occurred, an EGT exceedence report will be created.
2 Make a record of how much time the EGT was more than the limit and the highest temperature for subsequent analysis.
3 Keep this record in the engine log.
NOTE: It is very important to record and retain records of EGT overtemperatures.
     (f) Refer to the operating or starting EGT overtemperature charts, (minutes) and (0 - 60 seconds), shown in the Visual Examination (After Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) Overtemperature) (Ref. AMM TASK 72-00-00-210-809).
1 Do the necessary visual inspections after engine overtemperature.
2 Find and correct the cause of the overtemperature.
