Installation of the Bearing Seals of the MLG Actuator Bearing Assembly

WARNING:

A. Safety Precautions
(1) Make sure that the safety barriers are in position.
(2) Make sure that the safety devices are installed on the landing gears (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-481-001) and on the landing gear doors (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-481-002).
(3) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in position in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the landing gear or the landing gear doors.
Subtask 57-26-13-860-054-A (1) Make sure that the safety barriers are in position.
(2) Make sure that the safety devices are installed on the landing gears (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-481-001) and on the landing gear doors (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-481-002).
(3) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in position in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the landing gear or the landing gear doors.
B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Make sure that the aircraft is on jacks (Ref. AMM TASK 07-11-00-581-001).
(2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT) is in position below the applicable main landing gear.
(3) Make sure that the applicable hydraulic systems are de-pressurized (Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001).
(4) Make sure that the isolation coupling of the PTU is disconnected (Ref. AMM TASK 29-23-00-860-001).
(5) Make sure that the applicable MLG actuating cylinder has been removed (Ref. AMM TASK 32-31-46-000-001).
(6) Make sure that the applicable MLG actuator attachment bearing assembly has been removed (Ref. AMM TASK 57-26-13-000-004).
Subtask 57-26-13-869-053-A (1) Make sure that the aircraft is on jacks (Ref. AMM TASK 07-11-00-581-001).
(2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT) is in position below the applicable main landing gear.
(3) Make sure that the applicable hydraulic systems are de-pressurized (Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001).

C. Flight Configuration Precautions
(1) If you did not open the LGCIU circuit breakers, make sure that the electrical circuits are de-energized (Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-862-002).

A. Preparation for Installation
(1) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent areas with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
(2) Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the bearing ball (2) and the bearing-halves (1).
(4) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
(5) Apply a thin layer Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Lithium Thickened Low Temp. - (Material No.03GBC1) to the areas that follow:
Subtask 57-26-13-420-057-B (1) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent areas with a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) .
(2) Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the bearing ball (2) and the bearing-halves (1).
NOTE: Make sure that the grease channels are clean, and clear of unwanted material.
(3) Do an inspection of the component interface and/or the adjacent area. (4) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
(5) Apply a thin layer Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Lithium Thickened Low Temp. - (Material No.03GBC1) to the areas that follow:
- the surface of the bearing ball (2)
- the grease channels on the external surface of the bearing ball (2)
- the grease channel on the internal surface of the bearing ball (2).
NOTE: For lubricant grease specification and lubrication requirements, refer to (Ref. AMM D/O 12-22-00-00).
NOTE: You can use Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Lithium Thickened Low Temp. - (Material No.03GBC1) as an alternative to Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) . It is necessary to clean and remove the grease from the parts before you use an alternative grease.
NOTE: Make sure that all the grease channels are filled with grease.
B. Installation of the Bearing Seals
(1) Install the new AIPC 57-26-13-01-040 DOWEL PINS (5) in one of the bearing-halves (1).
(2) Install the new AIPC 57-26-13-01-050 SEAL (3) in one of the bearing-halves (1).
(3) Install the bearing-ball (2) in the applicable bearing-half (1).
(a) Make sure that the seals (3) and (4) are correctly located in the seal grooves of the bearing-halves (1).
(b) Make sure that the dowel pins (5) locate correctly in the holes of the applicable bearing-half (1).
(c) Make sure that the distance between the bearing-halves (1) is closed equally.
(6) Before installation of the bearing assembly, install the special nut (6). Make sure that the special nut (6) can be freely turned along the thread of the bearing assembly.
(7) Remove the special nut (6).
5. Close-up(1) Install the new AIPC 57-26-13-01-040 DOWEL PINS (5) in one of the bearing-halves (1).
(2) Install the new AIPC 57-26-13-01-050 SEAL (3) in one of the bearing-halves (1).
(3) Install the bearing-ball (2) in the applicable bearing-half (1).
NOTE: Make sure that the metal support ring of the seal (3) is against the bearing ball (2).
(4) Install the other new AIPC 57-26-13-01-050 SEAL (4) in the applicable bearing-half (1). NOTE: Make sure that the metal support ring of the seal (4) is against the bearing ball (2).
(5) Install the bearing-halves (1) together as follows: (a) Make sure that the seals (3) and (4) are correctly located in the seal grooves of the bearing-halves (1).
(b) Make sure that the dowel pins (5) locate correctly in the holes of the applicable bearing-half (1).
(c) Make sure that the distance between the bearing-halves (1) is closed equally.
(6) Before installation of the bearing assembly, install the special nut (6). Make sure that the special nut (6) can be freely turned along the thread of the bearing assembly.
(7) Remove the special nut (6).

A. Close Access
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Install the MLG actuator attachment bearing assembly (Ref. AMM TASK 57-26-13-400-002).
(3) Install the MLG actuating cylinder (Ref. AMM TASK 32-31-46-400-001).
Subtask 57-26-13-860-056-A (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Install the MLG actuator attachment bearing assembly (Ref. AMM TASK 57-26-13-400-002).
(3) Install the MLG actuating cylinder (Ref. AMM TASK 32-31-46-400-001).
B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) Connect the isolation coupling of the PTU (Ref. AMM TASK 29-23-00-860-002).
Subtask 57-26-13-865-052-A (1) Connect the isolation coupling of the PTU (Ref. AMM TASK 29-23-00-860-002).
C. Remove the safety clip(s) and the tag(s) and close this(these) circuit breaker(s):

E. Removal of Equipment
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
(2) Remove the safety barriers.
(3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
(4) Remove the access platform(s).
(5) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
(1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
