A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to start engine 1(2).
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

B. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER IS LOCKED. IF NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE REVERSER.
   (1) Make the thrust reverser unserviceable for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-481-041).

B. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER IS LOCKED. IF NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE REVERSER.
   (1) Make the thrust reverser unserviceable for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-012).

C. Get Access
   (1) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT) in position:
     (a) For the left pylon, in zones 410 and 470
     (b) For the right pylon, in zones 420 and 480.
   (2) Remove the pylon-to-wing access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 54-53-11-000-002):
     (a) For the left pylon: 414FR 471AL 471BL 471CL 472AR 472BR
     (b) For the right pylon: 423FL, 481AL 481BL 482AR 482BR 482CR.
   (3) Remove the access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 54-52-11-000-002):
     (a) For the left pylon: 413CL 413DL 413EL 414CR
     (b) For the right pylon: 423CL 423DL 424CR 424ER.

C. Get Access

     (a) For the left pylon: 471AL 471AR 471BL 471BR 471CL 471CR 471DL

   (3) Remove the access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 54-52-11-000-002):
     (a) For the left pylon: 413CL 413CR 413DT
     (b) For the right pylon: 423CL 423CR 423DT.

D. Removal of the Component
   (1) Remove the precooler (Ref. AMM TASK 36-11-42-000-001).

E. Preparation of the Inspection Area
   (1) Make sure that the inspection area is sufficiently clean to do a satisfactory inspection of the area.
   (2) If it is not sufficiently clean, clean the inspection area with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (3) Make sure that there is no Temporary Protection System (TPS) layer and if there is a TPS layer, remove it (Ref. AMM TASK 51-78-00-916-001).

   (1) Do a detailed inspection of the upper surface of the upper spars of the pylon for damage or discontinuities. This inspection includes the area from forward of RIB1 to RIB10.
   (2) Make sure that there is no:
     (a) Corrosion damage:
  • If you find corrosion, refer to the Structural Repair Manual ( SRM 512200) for the corrosion types, inspection, removal and subsequent corrosion protection.
     (b) Other damage (scratches, cracks, gouges, dents, creases):
  • if you find this type of damage, refer to the Structural Repair Manual ( SRM 511100) for the damage types, classification and corrective action.
