3. Job Set-up
Subtask 49-13-00-860-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Energize the ground service network
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).
   (2) On the overhead panel 25VU, make sure that the APU MASTER SW pushbutton switch is released (the ON legend is off).
   (3) On the APU section of overhead panel 25VU, put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the APU.
   (4) Make sure that the hydraulic systems are depressurized and put them in the maintenance configuration
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001).

C. Get Access
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 5M (16 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below APU access doors 315AL and 316AR.
   (2) Open and safety the APU access doors 315AL and 316AR (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-010-001).
   (3) Set the light switch 11LJ to the ON position.
4. Procedure
Subtask 49-13-00-210-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. General Visual Inspection of all APU Compartment Fire Walls and Seals (Compartment Doors, Fwd and Aft Fire Walls, Side Fire Walls, Upper Fire Wall) for Condition.
   (1) Visual inspection of all APU fire walls (fwd, aft, sides and upper) and compartment doors.
     (a) Examine all the APU fire walls (fwd, aft, sides and upper) and the APU access doors 315AL and 316AR;
  • Make sure that there are no cracks, delamination or other damage.
  • Do a check for signs of cracked or flaking paint, wrinkles, buckling or burn marks.
  • Make sure that the rivets are not loose, missing or broken. If necessary replace all the loose or missing rivets.
  • Do a check of the sealant. If the sealant is not in the correct condition or missing, replace it Silicone Sealant-Firewall High Temp. - (Material No.06BHG1) .
     (b) If a fire wall is not in the correct condition, repair it.
     (c) If an APU access door is not in the correct condition, repair it (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-21-000-001), (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-21-400-001), (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-22-000-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-22-400-001).
     (d) Make sure that there is no signs of de-icing contamination. If there is, clean the APU compartment (Ref. AMM TASK 49-00-00-100-002).
   (2) Visual inspection of the fire seals on the cutouts on the forward (FR80) and aft (FR84) fire walls.
     (a) Examine the fire seals on the cutouts on the forward (FR80) and aft (FR84) fire walls:
- The part of fire seal (1) that you can see on the APU bleed-air duct,
- The part of fireproof electrical connectors (2) that you can see on the electrical harness,
- The part of the metal connection (3) that you can see on the fuel line,
- The part of fire seal (4) that you can see on the APU air- intake diffuser,
- The circumferential fire seal (5) around the forward fire wall,
- The circumferential fire seal (6) around the aft fire wall;
  • Make sure that there are no cracks, twists, damage or wear.
  • Do a check for signs of deformation or solidification.
  • Make sure that they are not loose, missing or broken.
  • Do a check of the sealant. If the sealant is not in the correct condition or missing, replace it Silicone Sealant-Firewall High Temp. - (Material No.06BHG1) .
     (b) If a fire seal is not in the correct condition or missing, replace it.
   (3) Visual inspection of the fire seals on the APU access doors 315AL and 316AR.
     (a) Examine the fire seals on the APU access doors 315AL and 316AR;
  • Make sure that there are no cracks, twists, damage or wear.
  • Do a check for signs of deformation or solidification.
  • Make sure that they are not loose, missing or broken.
     (b) If a fire seal is not in the correct condition or missing, replace it (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-21-000-001), (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-21-400-001), (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-22-000-001), (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-22-400-001) or (Ref. AMM TASK 53-58-11-960-801).
     (c) Make sure that there is no signs of de-icing contamination. If there is, clean the APU compartment (Ref. AMM TASK 49-00-00-100-002).
   (4) Visual inspection of the fire seal on the APU oil-cooler outlet.
     (a) Examine the fire seal (8) on the APU oil-cooler outlet;
  • Make sure that there are no cracks, twists, damage or wear.
  • Do a check for signs of deformation or solidification.
  • Make sure that it is not loose, missing or broken.
     (b) If the fire seal (8) is not in the correct condition or missing, replace it (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-21-400-001).
   (5) Visual inspection of the fire seal on the APU air-intake elbow.
     (a) Examine the fire seal (9) on the APU air-intake elbow;
  • Make sure that there are no cracks, twists, damage or wear.
  • Do a check for signs of deformation or solidification.
  • Make sure that it is not loose, missing or broken.
     (b) If the fire seal (9) is not in the correct condition or missing, replace it (Ref. AMM TASK 49-16-45-400-002).
   (6) Visual inspection of the fire seal (7) on the APU exhaust muffler.
     (a) Examine the fire seal (7) on the APU exhaust muffler;
  • Make sure that there are no cracks, twists, damage or wear.
  • Do a check for signs of deformation or solidification.
  • Make sure that it is not loose, missing or broken.
     (b) If the fire seal (7) is not in the correct condition or missing, replace it (Ref. AMM TASK 49-81-41-000-002) and (Ref. AMM TASK 49-81-41-400-002).
5. Close-up
Subtask 49-13-00-410-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Set the light switch 11LJ to the OFF position.
   (3) Close APU access doors 315AL and 316AR (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-410-001).
   (4) Remove the access platform(s).

B. Remove the safety clip(s) and the tag(s) and close this(these) circuit breaker(s):

C. Put the aircraft back to its initial configuration.
   (1) De-energize the ground service network
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-862-002)
   (2) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (3) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.
