3. Job Set-up
Subtask 32-33-18-861-052-A
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Energize the ground service network
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-861-001).

B. Safety Precautions
   (1) Make sure that the CHOCK - WHEEL(S) are in position.
   (2) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.
   (3) Install the safety devices on the landing gears (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-481-001).
   (4) On right-center instrument panel 400VU:
     (a) Make sure that the landing gear control-lever is in the DOWN position.
     (b) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the landing gear.
   (5) On rudder/trim parking-brake panel 110VU:
  • Install the WEDGE - NON METALLIC on each side of the gravity gear extension-handle to lock it in position.

C. Get Access
   (1) Open the NLG doors (Ref. AMM TASK 32-22-00-010-001).
   (2) Install the safety devices on the NLG doors (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-481-002).
   (3) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position below zone 123 (124).

4. Procedure
Subtask 32-33-18-020-052-A
A. Removal of the Components
   (1) Remove the NLG torque-tube assembly (Ref. AMM TASK 32-33-18-000-801).
   (2) Use the SCRAPER - NON METALLIC to remove the sealant from the nuts (2) and the taper pins (5).
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
   (3) Remove and discard the cotter pins (1).
   (4) Remove the nuts (2), washers (3), taper pins (5) and adapters (4) and (9) from the lever assemblies (6) and (8).
   (5) Remove the lever assemblies (6) and (8) from the NLG torque tube (7).

B. Repair of the NLG Torque Tube
NOTE: Repair is permitted in zone A only. If you find corrosion in zones B and C, you must replace the NLG torque tube.
   (1) Do a detailed visual inspection of the NLG torque tube (7) NTM 519000.
   (2) Use the abrasion by hand procedure to remove the corrosion from the NLG torque tube (7) SRM 517400. Make sure that you do not increase the depth of the damaged area.
   (3) Do an inspection of the NLG torque tube (7) to make sure that all the surface corrosion is removed NTM 511002.
   (4) Measure dimension X:
     (a) If dimension X is less than 24.7 mm (0.9724 in.), do the steps that follow:
       1 Install a new NLG torque-tube assembly (Ref. AMM TASK 32-33-18-400-801).
       2 Go to the Para. Close-up.
     (b) If dimension X is more than 24.7 mm (0.9724 in.), do the steps that follow:
       1 Do the brush phosphating procedure on the NLG torque tube (7) SRM 512111.
       2 Apply a layer of Primer Polyurethane Paint_- Corrosion Inhibiting Structure (Material No.04EAC2) on the NLG torque tube (7).
       3 Apply a layer of Top Coat Polyurethane_- - External Structure (Material No.04JAA3) on the NLG torque tube (7).

C. Installation of the Components
   (1) Do a visual inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (2) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (3) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (4) Install the lever assemblies (6) and (8) on the NLG torque tube (7).
   (5) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Interfay - (Material No.06AAC1) to the mating surfaces of the adapters (4) and (9) and the NLG torque tube (7).
   (6) Install the adapters (4) and (9), taper pins (5), washers (3) and nuts (2) on the lever assemblies (6) and (8).
   (7) TORQUE the nuts (2) to between 0.82 and 0.43 m.daN (72.57 and 38.05 lbf.in ) T.
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
   (8) Safety the nuts (2) with the new
AIPC 32-33-01-08-170 COTTER PINS (1).
   (9) Apply a layer of Corrosion Preventive Compound-Heavy Duty Hard Film - (Material No.
12ACB1) to the nuts (2) and the taper pins (5).
   (10) Install the NLG torque-tube assembly (Ref. AMM TASK 32-33-18-400-801).

   (4) Close the NLG doors (Ref. AMM TASK 32-22-00-410-001).

C. Test(s)
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE RIGGING PINS ARE REMOVED BEFORE OPERATION OF THE FREE FALL SYSTEM. DAMAGE WILL OCCUR IF THE RIGGING PINS ARE INSTALLED DURING SYSTEM OPERATION.
   (1) Do a functional test of the NLG free-fall extension (Ref. AMM TASK 32-33-00-720-004).

D. Removal of Equipment
   (1) Remove the safety devices from the landing gears (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-081-001).
   (2) Remove the SAFETY BARRIERS.
   (3) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (4) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.

E. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) De-energize the ground service network
(Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-862-001).
