A. Operational Test of the PTU with the Engine Pumps
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE WHEEL CHOCKS ARE IN POSITION. MOVEMENT OF THE AIRCRAFT CAN BE DANGEROUS.
CAUTION: DO NOT START OR DRY MOTOR THE ENGINES WITH A HYDRAULIC GROUND POWER SUPPLY CONNECTED TO THE AIRCRAFT. IF YOU DO, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE PUMPS.
   (1) For identification of the PTU Status Symbols refer to Para. Operation/Control and Indicating (Ref. AMM D/O 29-23-00-00).
   (2) To prevent damage to the PTU:
  • Make sure that the air pressure in the Green and Yellow reservoirs does not decrease to less than 3 bar (43.5113 psi).
   (3) Make sure that the isolation coupling of the PTU is connected.
   (4) Make sure that the nose wheel steering operates.
   (5) Make sure that the PTU P/BSW on the panel 40VU is in the AUTO position (OFF light is not on).
   (6) Do this test:
NOTE: During EDP and PTU operation a transient flow demand (PTU runs in saw tooth mode) leads to interaction with the EDP pressure compensator and can cause system pressure peaks. These pressure peaks are permitted if they are not above 3350psi.
ACTION
RESULT
1.Start the right engine to pressurize the Yellow hydraulic system (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-710-003).

Start the left engine (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-710-003).
On the ECAM lower DU:
  • During the start-up of the left engine, the pressure in the Yellow hydraulic system is between 2900 and 3100 psi.
  • During the start-up of the left engine, the pressure in the Green hydraulic system is between 2200 and 3150 psi.
  • After the start-up of the left engine, when the engine operates at idle, the pressure in the Green hydraulic system is between 2900 and 3100 psi.
