BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
(b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
(c) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to operate:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).
Subtask 72-24-81-010-052-A (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Maintenance
Subtask 72-24-81-010-053-A WARNING:
YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
(1) Make sure that you did the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-809). D. Get Access
(1) Make sure that the thrust reverser cowl doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-806):

A. Installation of the Master VBV Bellcrank and the Slave and Master Turnbuckles
(3) Install the master bellcrank (13) in position in its recess of the VBV actuating ring (3).
(a) If the slave turnbuckle (11) is replaced by a new one, do the following steps:
1 2 Adjust the new slave turnbuckle (11) length to get the same dimension A.

5 Safety the locknut (17) with safetywire (Material No.CP8001) .
(b) Install the slave turnbuckle (11) adjustable rod end plain bearing (18) on the afterward side of the VBV door (6).
(c) Install the spacer (8), the bolt (7), the washer (9) and the nut (10), hand tight.
(d) Install the slave turnbuckle (11) in the master bellcrank (13).
(e) Install the axis (12), hand tight.
(5) Install the master turnbuckle (5) as follows:
(a) If the master turnbuckle (5) is replaced by a new one, do the following steps:
1 2 Adjust the new master turnbuckle (5) length to get the same dimension A.

5 Safety the locknut (17) with safetywire (Material No.CP8001) .
(b) Install the master turnbuckle (5) in the master bellcrank (13) with the adjustable rod end plain bearing (18) on the aft side of the engine.
(c) Install the axis (4) to secure the master turnbuckle (5) in the master bellcrank (13), hand tight.
(6) Install the axis (14) on the fan hub frame and in the master bellcrank (13).
(7) Install the bolt (15) to secure the axis (14) in the fan hub frame.
(8) Install the axis (2) on the VBV actuating ring (3) and in the master bellcrank (13).
(9) Install the bolt (1) to secure the axis (2) on the VBV actuating ring (3).
(10) TORQUE the axis (12) and (4) to between 220.5 and 199.5 lbf.in (2.49 and 2.25 m.daN )

(11) Install safetywire (Material No.CP8001) between the axis (12) and (4) and the master bellcrank (13).
(12) TORQUE the nut (10) to between 157.5 and 142.5 lbf.in (1.780 and 1.610 m.daN )
.
(13) TORQUE the bolt (15) to between 120.75 and 109.25 lbf.in (1.364 and 1.235 m.daN )
.
(14) TORQUE the bolt (1) to between 74.5 and 67.5 lbf.in (0.84 and 0.76 m.daN )
.
(15) Install the previously removed OGV (Ref. AMM TASK 72-24-20-400-801).
Subtask 72-24-81-420-051-A CAUTION:
DO NOT REMOVE MORE THAN TWO OUTLET GUIDE VANES (OGV) AT A TIME. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR.
(1) (2) Lightly coat the bolts (15), (1) and (7) and the axis (12) and (4) with graphite grease (Material No.CP2101) .(3) Install the master bellcrank (13) in position in its recess of the VBV actuating ring (3).
NOTE: To increase the clearance between the fan hub frame and the VBV actuating ring (3) it is possible to remove the axis (2) from the VBV actuating ring (3) at the two adjacent VBV door positions.
(4) Install the slave turnbuckle (11) as follows: (a) If the slave turnbuckle (11) is replaced by a new one, do the following steps:
1 2 Adjust the new slave turnbuckle (11) length to get the same dimension A.

CAUTION:
USE TWO WRENCHES TO TORQUE THE LOCKNUTS. USE ONE TO HOLD THE NUT AND THE OTHER TO TORQUE THE COUNTER NUT. IF YOU DO NOT USE TWO WRENCHES, DAMAGE TO THE PARTS CAN OCCUR.
4 TORQUE the lock nut (17) to between 74 and 68 lbf.in (0.84 and 0.77 m.daN )
.5 Safety the locknut (17) with safetywire (Material No.CP8001) .
(b) Install the slave turnbuckle (11) adjustable rod end plain bearing (18) on the afterward side of the VBV door (6).
(c) Install the spacer (8), the bolt (7), the washer (9) and the nut (10), hand tight.
(d) Install the slave turnbuckle (11) in the master bellcrank (13).
(e) Install the axis (12), hand tight.
(5) Install the master turnbuckle (5) as follows:
(a) If the master turnbuckle (5) is replaced by a new one, do the following steps:
1 2 Adjust the new master turnbuckle (5) length to get the same dimension A.
CAUTION:
INSTALL ONE ROD-END PLAIN BEARING OF THE TURNBUCKLE AT A 90-DEGREE ANGLE TO THE OTHER ROD-END PLAIN BEARING. IF THE ANGLE BETWEEN THE TWO ROD-END PLAIN BEARINGS IS NOT 90 DEGREES, IT WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE TO INSTALL THE TURNBUCKLE.
3 CAUTION:
USE TWO WRENCHES TO TORQUE THE LOCKNUTS. USE ONE TO HOLD THE NUT AND THE OTHER TO TORQUE THE COUNTER NUT. IF YOU DO NOT USE TWO WRENCHES, DAMAGE TO THE PARTS CAN OCCUR.
4 TORQUE the lock nut (17) to between 74 and 68 lbf.in (0.84 and 0.77 m.daN )
.5 Safety the locknut (17) with safetywire (Material No.CP8001) .
(b) Install the master turnbuckle (5) in the master bellcrank (13) with the adjustable rod end plain bearing (18) on the aft side of the engine.
(c) Install the axis (4) to secure the master turnbuckle (5) in the master bellcrank (13), hand tight.
(6) Install the axis (14) on the fan hub frame and in the master bellcrank (13).
(7) Install the bolt (15) to secure the axis (14) in the fan hub frame.
(8) Install the axis (2) on the VBV actuating ring (3) and in the master bellcrank (13).
(9) Install the bolt (1) to secure the axis (2) on the VBV actuating ring (3).
(10) TORQUE the axis (12) and (4) to between 220.5 and 199.5 lbf.in (2.49 and 2.25 m.daN )
.(11) Install safetywire (Material No.CP8001) between the axis (12) and (4) and the master bellcrank (13).
(12) TORQUE the nut (10) to between 157.5 and 142.5 lbf.in (1.780 and 1.610 m.daN )
.(13) TORQUE the bolt (15) to between 120.75 and 109.25 lbf.in (1.364 and 1.235 m.daN )
.(14) TORQUE the bolt (1) to between 74.5 and 67.5 lbf.in (0.84 and 0.76 m.daN )
.(15) Install the previously removed OGV (Ref. AMM TASK 72-24-20-400-801).
B. Install the Slave VBV Turnbuckles and Slave Bellcrank
(3) Install the slave bellcrank (16) in position in its recess of the VBV actuating ring (3).
(a) If the slave turnbuckle (11) is replaced by a new one, do the following steps:
1 2 Adjust the new slave turnbuckle (11) length to get the same dimension A.

5 Safety the locknut (17) with safetywire (Material No.CP8001) .
(b) Install the slave turnbuckle (11) adjustable rod end plain bearing (18) on the VBV door (6).
(c) Install the spacer (8), the bolt (7), the washer (9) and the nut (10), hand tight.
(d) Install the slave turnbuckle (11) in the slave bellcrank (16).
(e) Install the axis (12), hand tight.
(5) Install the axis (14) on the fan hub frame and in the slave bellcrank (16).
(6) Install the bolt (15) to secure the axis (14) in the fan hub frame.
(7) Install the axis (2) on the VBV actuating ring (3) and in the slave bellcrank (16).
(8) Install the bolt (1) to secure the axis (2) on the VBV actuating ring (3).
(9) TORQUE the axis (12) to between 220.5 and 199.5 lbf.in (2.49 and 2.25 m.daN )

(10) Install safetywire (Material No.CP8001) between the axis (12) and the slave bellcrank (16).
(11) TORQUE the nut (10) to between 157.5 and 142.5 lbf.in (1.780 and 1.610 m.daN )

(12) TORQUE the bolt (15) to between 120.75 and 109.25 lbf.in (1.364 and 1.235 m.daN )

(13) TORQUE the bolt (1) to between 74.5 and 67.5 lbf.in (0.84 and 0.76 m.daN )

(14) Install the previously removed OGV (Ref. AMM TASK 72-24-20-400-801).
Subtask 72-24-81-410-052-A CAUTION:
DO NOT REMOVE MORE THAN TWO OUTLET GUIDE VANES (OGV) AT A TIME. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CAN OCCUR.
(1) (2) Lightly coat the bolts (15), (1) and (7) and the axis (12) with graphite grease (Material No.CP2101) .(3) Install the slave bellcrank (16) in position in its recess of the VBV actuating ring (3).
NOTE: To increase the clearance between the fan hub frame and the VBV actuating ring (3) it is possible to remove the axis (2) from the VBV actuating ring (3) at the two adjacent VBV door positions.
(4) Install the slave turnbuckle (11) as follows: (a) If the slave turnbuckle (11) is replaced by a new one, do the following steps:
1 2 Adjust the new slave turnbuckle (11) length to get the same dimension A.
CAUTION:
INSTALL ONE ROD-END PLAIN BEARING OF THE TURNBUCKLE AT A 90-DEGREE ANGLE TO THE OTHER ROD-END PLAIN BEARING. IF THE ANGLE BETWEEN THE TWO ROD-END PLAIN BEARINGS IS NOT 90 DEGREES, IT WILL NOT BE POSSIBLE TO INSTALL THE TURNBUCKLE.
3 CAUTION:

(9) TORQUE the axis (12) to between 220.5 and 199.5 lbf.in (2.49 and 2.25 m.daN )
.(10) Install safetywire (Material No.CP8001) between the axis (12) and the slave bellcrank (16).
(11) TORQUE the nut (10) to between 157.5 and 142.5 lbf.in (1.780 and 1.610 m.daN )

C. Close access to the VBV turnbuckles and bellcrank.
(1) Install the VBV actuators (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-05-400-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-05-400-802).
(2) Install the segment shrouds 1 thru 5 (Ref. AMM TASK 72-24-01-400-801).
(3) Install the flowpath panel (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-01-400-802).
(4) Install the engine surface air cooling oil cooler (Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-30-400-802).
Subtask 72-24-81-740-050-A 5. Close-up(1) Install the VBV actuators (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-05-400-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 75-31-05-400-802).
