Installation of the Engine Surface Air Cooling Oil Cooler (SACOC)


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 79-21-30-941-056-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch, and
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Make sure that you did the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-809).

4. Procedure
Subtask 79-21-30-420-053-A
A. Installation of the Engine SACOC (left) (1)
WARNING: USE PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT. USE THE ENGINE OIL IN A WELL-VENTILATED AREA. ENGINE OIL IS TOXIC.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU HOLD THE ENGINE SURFACE AIR-COOLING OIL-COOLER (SACOC) DURING THE REMOVAL OR THE INSTALLATION. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
   (1) Remove all COVER - PROTECTION and CAP - PROTECTION from the openings, tubes, hoses and connectors.
   (2) Make sure that the mating surfaces are clean and clear of unwanted materials.
   (3) Install the bracket (18) on the engine SACOC (left) (1).
   (4) Install the engine SACOC (left) (1) equiped in the correct position on the engine.
   (5) Lubricate the threads of the two screws (17) with the graphite grease (Material No.CP2101) .
   (6) Lubricate the threads of the eight bolts (9) with the graphite grease (Material No.CP2101) .
   (7) Install the eight bolts (9) on the engine SACOC (left) (1) and tighten by hand.
   (8) TORQUE the eight bolts (9) to between 120.7 and 109.2 lbf.in (1.36 and 1.23 m.daN ) T
   (9) Install the two screws (17) on the bracket (18) and tighten by hand.
   (10) Make sure that there is at least a 0.12 in. (3 mm) gap between the engine SACOC (left) (1) and the bracket (18).
   (11) TORQUE the two screws (17) to between 120.7 and 109.3 lbf.in (1.36 and 1.24 m.daN )
T.
   (12) Connection of the oil tube (6) on the engine SACOC (left) (1):
     (a) Lubricate the threads of the four bolts (7) and the new
EIPC 79-21-30-01-120 GASKET (8) with the engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .
     (b) Install the new gasket (8) and the oil tube (6) in the correct position on the engine SACOC (left) (1).
     (c) Install the four bolts (7) on the oil tube (6) and tighten them with your hand.
     (d) TORQUE the four bolts (7) to between 120.7 and 109.2 lbf.in (1.36 and 1.23 m.daN ) T.
   (13) Connection of the oil tube (3) on the engine SACOC (left) (1):
     (a) Lubricate the threads of the four bolts (4) and the new
EIPC 79-21-30-01-110 GASKET (5) with the engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .
     (b) Install the new gasket (5) and the oil tube (3) in the correct position on the engine SACOC (left) (1).
     (c) Install the four bolts (4) on the oil tube (3) and tighten them with your hand.
     (d) TORQUE the four bolts (4) to between 120.75 and 109.25 lbf.in (1.36 and 1.23 m.daN ) T.

B. Installation of the Engine SACOC (right) (2)
WARNING: USE PERSONAL PROTECTION EQUIPMENT. USE THE ENGINE OIL IN A WELL-VENTILATED AREA. ENGINE OIL IS TOXIC.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU HOLD THE ENGINE SURFACE AIR-COOLING OIL-COOLER (SACOC) DURING THE REMOVAL OR THE INSTALLATION. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS INSTRUCTION, DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
   (1) Remove all COVER - PROTECTION and CAP - PROTECTION from the openings, tubes, hoses and connectors.
   (2) Make sure that the mating surfaces are clean and clear of unwanted materials.
   (3) Install the bracket (18) on the engine SACOC (right) (2).
   (4) Install the engine SACOC (right) (2) equiped in the correct position on the engine.
   (5) Lubricate the threads of the two screws (17) with the graphite grease (Material No.
CP2101) .
   (6) Lubricate the threads of the eight bolts (16) with the graphite grease (Material No.CP2101) .
   (7) Install the eight bolts (16) on the engine SACOC (right) (2) and tighten by hand.
   (8) TORQUE the eight bolts (16) to between 120.7 and 109.2 lbf.in (1.36 and 1.23 m.daN ) T
   (9) Install the two screws (17) on the bracket (18) and tighten by hand.
   (10) Make sure that there is at least a 0.12 in. (3 mm) gap between the engine SACOC (right) (2) and the bracket (18).
   (11) TORQUE the two screws (17) to between 120.7 and 109.3 lbf.in (1.36 and 1.24 m.daN )
T.
   (12) Connection of the oil tube (13) on the engine SACOC (right) (2):
     (a) Lubricate the threads of the four bolts (14) and the new
EIPC 79-21-30-01-050 GASKET (15) (P/N 649-387-233-0) with the engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .
     (b) Install the new gasket (15) and the oil tube (13) in the correct position on the engine SACOC (right) (2).
     (c) Install the four bolts (14) on the oil tube (13) and tighten them with your hand.
     (d) TORQUE the four bolts (14) to between 120.7 and 109.2 lbf.in (1.36 and 1.23 m.daN ) T.
   (13) Connection of the oil tube (10) on the engine SACOC (right) (2):
     (a) Lubricate the threads of the four bolts (11) and the new
EIPC 79-21-30-01-060 GASKET (12) with the engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .
     (b) Install the new gasket (12) and the oil tube (10) in the correct position on the engine SACOC (right) (2).
     (c) Install the four bolts (11) on the oil tube (10) and tighten them with your hand.
     (d) TORQUE the four bolts (11) to between 120.75 and 109.25 lbf.in (1.36 and 1.23 m.daN ) T.
