C. Preparation of the Disinfectant Solution with Calcium Hypochlorite or Sodium Hypochlorite
WARNING: ALWAYS WEAR RUBBER GLOVES, GOGGLES AND PROTECTIVE CLOTHES WHEN YOU DO THIS TASK.
WARNING: DO NOT GET THE FLUID ON YOUR SKIN OR IN YOUR EYES. IF YOU DO:
  • FLUSH IT AWAY WITH CLEAN WATER
  • GET MEDICAL AID.
   (1) Prepare the dissolved solution:
     (a) Mix Disinfectant-Potable Water System Hypochlorite - (Material No.11AKB1) with water at a temperature of 20 +4 deg.C or -4 deg.C (68.00 +7.20 deg.F or -7.20 deg.F) in a CONTAINER 5 L (1.32 USGAL) as given in table 1 or table 2.
NOTE: Airbus recommends:
  • To use water from the cold water tap for the disinfection of the potable water system.
  • Not to keep water or disinfectant solution in a very cold or hot condition before you do the disinfection procedure.
NOTE: The mixtures given in table 1 and 2 are for a concentration of 100 parts per million for a volume of 250 l (66.04 USgal) of water.

   (2) If you think that there is a large amount of contamination in the potable water system:
     (a) Let the disinfection solution flow longer through the water faucets in the lavatories and the galleys:
  • This is to make sure that the potable water system is clean.
   (3) Prepare the disinfectant solution:
     (a) Mix the dissolved solution with 250 l (66.04 USgal) of water in a CONTAINER 300 L(80 USGAL) to make the disinfectant solution (referred to as the solution).
