  • FIXED AND PORTABLE OXYGEN CYLINDERS.
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS ARE NECESSARY FOR THIS EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: KEEP ALL HYDROCARBONS (FUELS, LUBRICANTS, ETC.) AWAY FROM ALL SOURCE OF OXYGEN. OXYGEN BECOMES EXPLOSIVE WHEN IT TOUCHES HYDROCARBONS.
WARNING: CLEAN THE TOOLS AND MAKE SURE YOUR HANDS ARE CLEAN TO PREVENT CONTAMINATION OF THE OXYGEN SYSTEM.
CAUTION: PUT DRY AND CLEAN METAL OR PLASTIC PLUGS ON ALL PIPES OR UNITS THAT YOU REMOVE TEMPORARILY. THEN PUT EACH PIPE OR UNIT IN A SEALED VINYL BAG. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS, CONTAMINATION OF THE OXYGEN SYSTEM CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION: BEFORE YOU MOVE AN OXYGEN GENERATOR (WITH OR WITHOUT AN OXYGEN CONTAINER), INSTALL A SAFETY RING OR PIN AND WARNING FLAG ON ITS IGNITION ACTUATOR. YOU MUST DO THIS:
  • BEFORE YOU MOVE IT TO A DIFFERENT LOCATION
  • BEFORE YOU PUT IT INTO STORAGE
  • BEFORE YOU PREPARE IT FOR TRANSPORT.
BEFORE YOU CLOSE THE DOOR OF THE OXYGEN CONTAINER, ATTACH ONE END OF THE WARNING FLAG TO THE DOOR'S OUTER SURFACE. IF THE SAFETY RING OR PIN AND WARNING FLAG IS NOT CORRECTLY INSTALLED, THE OXYGEN GENERATOR CAN START ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE DAMAGE.

4. Procedure
Subtask 35-21-41-020-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Emergency Oxygen Containers in the Passenger Service Channels and the service channel of the aft utility area.
NOTE: The removal procedure is the same for all the emergency oxygen containers installed in the service channels.
   (1) Remove the hose sections (1) from the rails (2).
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU SUPPORT THE EMERGENCY OXYGEN CONTAINER WHEN YOU LOWER IT. IF IT FALLS, DAMAGE CAN OCCUR TO THE CONTAINER AND TO THE ADJACENT EQUIPMENT.
   (2) Disengage and lower one side of the emergency oxygen container (3).
   (3) Disconnection of the electrical connector(s):
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS ARE CLEAN BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT OR CONNECT THEM. CONTAMINATION ON THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION: MAKE MATCH MARKS ON ALL THE ELECTRICAL WIRES BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT THEM. INCORRECT CONNECTION OF WIRES WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
     (a) Disconnect the electrical connectors (4) with the ELEC CONTACTS INSERTION EXTRACTION TOOL M15570-20.
     (b) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.
   (4) Remove the emergency oxygen container (3) from the rails (2).
Subtask 35-21-41-020-050-B ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the Emergency Oxygen Containers in the Passenger Service Channels
NOTE: The removal procedure is the same for all the emergency oxygen containers installed in the service channels.
   (1) Lower the inboard side of the emergency oxygen container:
     (a) Remove the hose sections (1) from the rails (2).
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU SUPPORT THE EMERGENCY OXYGEN CONTAINER WHEN YOU LOWER IT. IF IT FALLS, DAMAGE CAN OCCUR TO THE CONTAINER AND TO THE ADJACENT EQUIPMENT.
     (b) Disengage and lower the inboard side of the emergency oxygen container (3).
   (2) Disconnect the electrical connector(s):
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS ARE CLEAN BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT OR CONNECT THEM. CONTAMINATION ON THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION: MAKE MATCH MARKS ON ALL THE ELECTRICAL WIRES BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT THEM. INCORRECT CONNECTION OF WIRES WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
     (a) Disconnect the electrical connectors (4) with the ELEC CONTACTS INSERTION EXTRACTION TOOL M15570-20.
     (b) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.
   (3) Remove the emergency oxygen container (3) from the rails (2).
   (4) If necessary, remove the clamping block (8):
     (a) Loosen the screw (9).
     (b) Remove the clamping block (8).

B. Removal of the Emergency Oxygen Container(s) in the Passenger/Crew Door Frame(s)
NOTE: The removal procedure is the same for all the emergency oxygen containers installed in the passenger/crew door frames.
   (1) Disconnect the electrical connector(s):
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS ARE CLEAN BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT OR CONNECT THEM. CONTAMINATION ON THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION: MAKE MATCH MARKS ON ALL THE ELECTRICAL WIRES BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT THEM. INCORRECT CONNECTION OF WIRES WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
     (a) Disconnect the electrical connectors (15) with the ELEC CONTACTS INSERTION EXTRACTION TOOL M15570-20.
     (b) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.
   (2) Remove the screws (17) and the washers (16).
   (3) Loosen the screws (18).
   (4) Move the supports (12) and disengage the emergency oxygen container (13) from the support assembly (14).
   (5) Remove the emergency oxygen container (13).

NOTE: The removal procedure is the same for all the emergency oxygen containers installed in the passenger/crew door frames.
   (1) Disconnection of the electrical connector(s):
CAUTION: MAKE MATCH MARKS ON ALL THE ELECTRICAL WIRES BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT THEM. INCORRECT CONNECTION OF WIRES WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
     (a) Disconnect the electrical connectors (8) with the insertion/removal tool M15.570-20.
     (b) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.
   (2) Remove the screws (10) and the washers (9).
   (3) Loosen the screws (11).
   (4) Move the support (5) and disengage the oxygen container (6) from the support assembly (7).
   (5) Remove the oxygen container (6).

C. Removal of the Emergency Oxygen Container in the Lavatories
   (1) In lavatory A:
     (a) Remove the screws (19) from the nut-clips (20) at the emergency-oxygen-container cover color-panel (21).
     (b) Remove the emergency-oxygen-container cover color-panel (21).
   (2) For lavatories D, E and H:
     (a) Put a STEPLADDER 1.0 M (3.3 FT) in position in front of the applicable lavatory.
   (3) For all the lavatories:

D. Removal of the Emergency Oxygen Container in the Service Channel of the Aft Utility Area
   (1) Remove the hose sections (33) from the rails (30).
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU SUPPORT THE EMERGENCY OXYGEN CONTAINER WHEN YOU LOWER IT. IF IT FALLS, DAMAGE CAN OCCUR TO THE CONTAINER AND TO THE ADJACENT EQUIPMENT.
   (2) Disengage and lower one side of the panel (36).
   (3) Disconnect the electrical connector(s):
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS ARE CLEAN BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT OR CONNECT THEM. CONTAMINATION ON THE ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION: MAKE MATCH MARKS ON ALL THE ELECTRICAL WIRES BEFORE YOU DISCONNECT THEM. INCORRECT CONNECTION OF WIRES WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
     (a) Disconnect the electrical connectors (37) with the ELEC CONTACTS INSERTION EXTRACTION TOOL M15570-20.
     (b) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.
   (4) Disengage and remove the panel (36) from the rails (30).
   (5) Remove the screws (32) and the washers (31) and (34).
   (6) Remove the emergency oxygen container (35) from the panel (36).

D. Removal of the Emergency Oxygen Container in the Service Channel of the Aft Utility Area
   (1) Remove the hose sections (21) from the rails (20).

   (5) Disengage and remove the panel (26) from the rail (20).
   (6) Remove the screws (23), the washers (22) and (24).
   (7) Remove the emergency oxygen container (25) from the panel (26).

WARNING: UNEXPENDED OXYGEN GENERATORS CONTAIN A PYROTECHNIC- ACTIVATED IGNITION DEVICE. ENSURE THAT RELEASE PIN/OR SAFETY PIN WITH WARNING FLAG IS INSTALLED DURING HANDLING AND TRANSPORTATION. IF RELEASE PIN AND/OR SAFETY PIN IS PULLED AND GENERATOR FIRES, IMMEDIATELY PLACE ON A NON-COMBUSTIBLE SURFACE. CONTAINER SURFACE TEMPERATURES MAY EXCEED 450F. ALLOW 2 TO 3 HOURS COOLING TIME BEFORE HANDLING CONTAINERS.
CAUTION: AT ALL TIMES, AVOID AN UNINTENTIONAL PULL ON THE LANYARDS OR PULL PIN OF AN UNUSED GENERATOR. REMOVAL OF THE PULL PIN FROM THE GENERATOR WILL START THE FLOW OF OXYGEN WHICH CANNOT BE STOPPED UNTIL THE CONTENTS ARE DEPLETED. DO NOT TOUCH THE GENERATOR WITH UNPROTECTED HANDS, AS IT IS HOT ENOUGH TO BURN THE SKIN.
CAUTION: DO NOT USE TOO MUCH FORCE TO CLOSE THE EMERGENCY OXYGEN CONTAINER. IF YOU USE TOO MUCH FORCE, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE LATCH MECHANISM. IF THE LATCH MECHANISM DOES NOT ENGAGE EASILY, MAKE SURE THAT THE EQUIPMENT IN THE EMERGENCY OXYGEN CONTAINER IS CORRECTLY INSTALLED.
A. Preparation for Transportation or Stowage of the Emergency Oxygen Container(s)
NOTE: This procedure is not necessary for an emergency oxygen container with a used up oxygen generator.
   (1) To move the generator (2) or the emergency oxygen container (1) with generator, install a AIPC 35-21-41-99-010 SAFETY RING WITH WARNING FLAG (4) or AIPC 35-21-89-99-010 SAFETY RING WITH WARNING FLAG (4) / AIPC 35-21-41-99-020 SAFETY PIN WITH WARNING FLAG (4) or AIPC 35-21-89-99-020 SAFETY PIN WITH WARNING FLAG (4) into the hole of the ignition actuator on the generator (2) (Ref. AMM TASK 35-21-42-000-001).
   (2) Before you close the door of the emergency oxygen container (1) , attach one end of the warning flag to the door's outer surface.
Subtask 35-21-41-481-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
CAUTION: DO NOT PULL THE MASK LANYARD FROM THE END WITH THE RELEASE PIN. IF YOU PULL ON THIS END OF THE LANYARD, YOU WILL REMOVE THE RELEASE PIN AND START A FLOW OF OXYGEN WHICH CANNOT BE STOPPED.
CAUTION: DO NOT USE TOO MUCH FORCE TO CLOSE THE EMERGENCY OXYGEN CONTAINER. IF YOU USE TOO MUCH FORCE, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE LATCH MECHANISM. IF THE LATCH MECHANISM DOES NOT ENGAGE EASILY, MAKE SURE THAT THE EQUIPMENT IN THE EMERGENCY OXYGEN CONTAINER IS CORRECTLY INSTALLED.
B. Preparation for Transportation or Stowage of the Emergency Oxygen Container(s) with the Cylinder Assembly
NOTE: This procedure is not necessary for an emergency oxygen container with an empty oxygen cylinder.
   (1) Before you transport the emergency oxygen container (1), install a AIPC 35-22-54-99-010 RING (3) or a AIPC 35-22-89-99-010 RING (3) into the actuator housing of the oxygen cylinder (2).
   (2) Before you close the door of the emergency oxygen container (1), attach one end of the warning flag to the outer surface of the door.
