TASK 35-21-42-000-001-A
Removal of the Emergency Oxygen Generators

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT YOU OBEY THE MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND NATIONAL HAZARDOUS MATERIAL REGULATIONS WHEN YOU MOVE OR KEEP THIS EQUIPMENT IN STORAGE:
  • CHEMICAL OXYGEN GENERATORS
  • PROTECTIVE BREATHING EQUIPMENT
  • FIXED AND PORTABLE OXYGEN CYLINDERS.
SPECIAL PRECAUTIONS ARE NECESSARY FOR THIS EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: CLEAN THE TOOLS AND MAKE SURE YOUR HANDS ARE CLEAN TO PREVENT CONTAMINATION OF THE OXYGEN SYSTEM.
WARNING: KEEP ALL HYDROCARBONS (FUELS, LUBRICANTS, ETC.) AWAY FROM ALL SOURCE OF OXYGEN. OXYGEN BECOMES EXPLOSIVE WHEN IT TOUCHES HYDROCARBONS.
WARNING: SUPPORT THE UNIT/ASSEMBLY. THE UNIT/ASSEMBLY IS HEAVY. IF YOU DO NOT SUPPORT IT, IT WILL FALL. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS, AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE CONSUMABLE MATERIALS. OBEY THE MATERIAL MANUFACTURER'S INSTRUCTIONS AND YOUR LOCAL REGULATIONS.
CAUTION: PUT DRY AND CLEAN METAL OR PLASTIC PLUGS ON ALL PIPES OR UNITS THAT YOU REMOVE TEMPORARILY. THEN PUT EACH PIPE OR UNIT IN A SEALED VINYL BAG. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS, CONTAMINATION OF THE OXYGEN SYSTEM CAN OCCUR.

A. Removal of the Oxygen Generator Type I
CAUTION: BEFORE YOU MOVE AN OXYGEN GENERATOR (WITH OR WITHOUT AN OXYGEN CONTAINER), INSTALL A SAFETY RING OR PIN AND WARNING FLAG ON ITS IGNITION ACTUATOR. YOU MUST DO THIS:
  • BEFORE YOU MOVE IT TO A DIFFERENT LOCATION
  • BEFORE YOU PUT IT INTO STORAGE
  • BEFORE YOU PREPARE IT FOR TRANSPORT.
BEFORE YOU CLOSE THE DOOR OF THE OXYGEN CONTAINER, ATTACH ONE END OF THE WARNING FLAG TO THE DOOR'S OUTER SURFACE. IF THE SAFETY RING OR PIN AND WARNING FLAG IS NOT CORRECTLY INSTALLED, THE OXYGEN GENERATOR CAN START ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE DAMAGE.
CAUTION: DO NOT PULL THE MASK LANYARD FROM THE END WITH THE RELEASE PIN. IF YOU PULL ON THIS END OF THE LANYARD, YOU WILL REMOVE THE RELEASE PIN AND START A FLOW OF OXYGEN WHICH CANNOT BE STOPPED.
   (1) Disconnect the lanyards (7) from the snap hooks (6) of the masks (5).
   (2) Loosen the screw (10).
   (3) Pull and hold the generator mounting clamp (11) away from the oxygen generator (2) and carefully remove the oxygen generator (2).
   (4) Install the AIPC 35-21-41-99-020 SAFETY PIN WITH THE WARNING FLAG (12):
     (a) Carefully put the
995022 INSERTION TOOL-PIN,OXYGEN GENERATOR between the firing pin housing (15) and the release pin (13).
     (b) The firing pin (18) comes out.
NOTE: You can see the mounting hole for the safety pin with the warning flag.
     (c) Make sure that the rubber pad face of the INSERTION TOOL points to the firing pin housing (15).
     (d) Hold the tool 995022 INSERTION TOOL-PIN,OXYGEN GENERATOR in position and put the AIPC 35-21-41-99-020 SAFETY PIN WITH THE WARNING FLAG (12) into the mounting hole.
     (e) Remove the tool
995022 INSERTION TOOL-PIN,OXYGEN GENERATOR.
     (f) Make sure that the waved part of the safety pin with the warning flag (12) points away from the eyelet of the release pin (13).
   (5) If installed, disconnect the pull flags (19) from the snap hooks (6) of the masks (5).
   (6) Pull the release pin (13) from the firing pin (18).
     (a) Remove the release pin (13) together with the mask lanyards (7).
   (7) Remove the mask supply hoses (4) from outlets of the outlet manifold (3) (Ref. AMM TASK 35-21-43-000-001).
   (8) If necessary, discard the oxygen generator (2).
NOTE: If you have an oxygen generator (2) that is made by Rockwell Collins, refer to the related Component Maintenance Manual (CMM) for the discard procedure. It is necessary to send the component operation results to the manufacturer.
