3. Job Set-up
Subtask 32-33-16-941-051-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Put the SAFETY BARRIER(S) in position.
   (2) Make sure that the ground safety locks are on the landing gear (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-481-001).
   (3) On panel 400VU:
  • make sure that the landing-gear control-lever is in the DOWN position
  • put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the landing gear.
   (4) On panel 110VU, make sure that the GRAVITY GEAR EXTN handle is folded into the center console.
   (5) Install a WEDGE - NON METALLIC on each side of the GRAVITY GEAR EXTN handle to lock the handle in position.

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the MLG doors for access (Ref. AMM TASK 32-12-00-010-001).
   (2) Make sure that the safety devices are installed on each MLG door (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-481-002).
   (3) Open avionics compartment doors 822 and 824 for access (Ref. AMM TASK 52-41-00-010-002).
   (4) Open forward cargo-compartment door 825 (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-001).
   (5) Remove the access panels that follow:
For location of the access panels, (Ref. AMM D/O 06-41-53-00).
     (a) In zones 131 and 132:
       1 Remove the applicable ceiling panels in the forward cargo compartment between FR25 and FR34 (Ref. AMM TASK 25-54-12-000-002).
       2 Remove the forward cargo-compartment partition at FR34 (Ref. AMM TASK 25-54-12-000-001).
     (b) In zone 212:
       1 Remove the applicable cockpit floor panels between FR8 and FR12 (Ref. AMM TASK 53-12-11-000-001).
     (c) In zones 222 and 232:
       1 Remove the applicable cabin floor panels between FR12 and FR24 (Ref. AMM TASK 53-12-12-000-001).
     (d) In zones 241 and 242:
       1 Remove the applicable cabin floor panels between FR35 and FR47 (Ref. AMM TASK 53-32-12-000-002).

C. Flight Configuration Precautions
   (1) If the electrical power is not necessary for other maintenance tasks, de-energize the aircraft electrical circuits (Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-862-002). Then, it is not necessary to operate the LGCIU circuit breakers.
   (2) If the electrical power is necessary, do the precautions for flight configuration (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-860-001) before you open the LGCIU circuit breakers.

4. Procedure
Subtask 32-33-16-020-051-A
A. Removal of the MLG Free-Fall Extension Cables (13) and/or (15)
   (1) Remove these items as necessary, the:
  • cotter pins (8) and (11)
  • washers (9) and (12)
  • tubes (7) and (10).
   (2) Remove the cable-guide locking-devices (21) and the fairleads (22) for the related cable(s).
   (3) Remove the locking clips (24) from the turnbuckles (23).
   (4) Loosen the turnbuckles (23) for the cables (13) and (15) until the tension in the cables is released.
   (5) On the cable(s) to be removed, continue to loosen the turnbuckle(s) (23) until the cable(s) is/are disconnected.
   (6) Temporarily attach the cable(s) (25) and/or (27) to the structure.
   (7) Remove the cotter pin(s) (14) for the cable(s) (13) and/or (15).
   (8) Release the cable(s) (13) and/or (15) from the pulley (16) and remove it/them from the aircraft.

B. Removal of the MLG Free-Fall Extension Cables (25) and/or (27)
   (1) Remove the applicable cable-guard items, the:
  • nuts (20)
  • bolts (18)
  • spacers (19).
   (2) Remove the cable-guard(s) (17).
   (3) Remove the cable-guide locking-devices (21) and the fairleads (22) for the related cable.
   (4) For the cable (27) remove these items at the bracket (2) on FR 12, the:
  • cotter pin (4)
  • nut (5)
  • washer (6)
  • bolt (1)
  • spacer (3).
   (5) Remove the locking clips (24) from the turnbuckles (23).
   (6) Loosen the turnbuckles (23) for the cables (25) and (27) until the tension in the cables is released.
   (7) On the cable(s) to be removed, continue to loosen the turnbuckle(s) (23) until the cable(s) is/are disconnected.
   (8) Temporarily attach the cable(s) (13) and/or (15) to the structure.
   (9) Release the cable(s) (25) and/or (27) from the pulley (26) and remove it/them from the aircraft.

C. Removal of the MLG Free-Fall Extension Cables (37) and/or (38)
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (1) At the cable pressure seals, remove and discard the locking wire for the bolts (62).
   (2) Remove these items from the applicable cable-pressure-seal(s):
  • the retaining ring (64)
  • the bolts (62)
  • the washers (61)
  • the swivel cable-guides (59).
   (3) At the cable pulley brackets remove these items:
  • the cotter pins (54) and (55)
  • the washers (53) and (56)
  • the tubes (52) and (57)
  • the nut (66), the washer (67) and the guide bolt (68).
   (4) Remove the locking clips (42).
   (5) Loosen the turnbuckles (41) for the cables (37) and (38) until the tension in the cables is released.
   (6) On the cable(s) to be removed, continue to loosen the turnbuckle(s) (41) until the cable(s) is/are disconnected.
   (7) Temporarily attach the cable(s) (39) and/or (40) to the structure.
   (8) Release the cable(s) (37) and/or (38) from the pulley (65).
   (9) Remove the cable(s), the pressure-seal-flanges (58) and (60) and the sleeve (63).

D. Removal of the MLG Free-Fall Extension Cables (39) and/or (40)
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (1) At the cable pulley assemblies:
     (a) Remove and discard the locking wire for the nuts (87).
     (b) Remove and discard the cotter pins (77), (80).
     (c) Remove these items:
  • the washers (76), (79) and the tubes (75), (78)
  • the nuts (87) and the washers (86)
  • the cable guard assembly (85)
  • the pins (84).
   (2) When necessary (for RH cables only) release the fairlead(s) (82) from the cover (81) and remove it/them from the cable(s).
   (3) Remove the locking clips (42).
   (4) Loosen the turnbuckles (41) for the cables (39) and (40) until the tension in the cables is released.
   (5) On the cable(s) to be removed, continue to loosen the turnbuckle(s) (41) until the cable(s) is/are disconnected.
   (6) Temporarily attach the cable(s) (37) and/or (38) to the structure.
   (7) Release the cable(s) (39) and/or (40) from the pulley (83) and remove it/them from the aircraft.
