3. Job Set-up
Subtask 32-11-18-941-054-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.
   (2) Make sure that the safety devices are installed on the landing gears (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-481-001).
   (3) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) on the ground service connection to tell persons not to pressurize:
  • The Green hydraulic system
  • The Yellow hydraulic system.
   (4) On panel 400VU:
     (a) Make sure that the landing-gear control-lever (6GA) is in the DOWN position.
     (b) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the landing gear.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Disconnect the isolation coupling of the PTU (Ref. AMM TASK 29-23-00-860-001).
   (2) Make sure that the reservoirs of the Green and Yellow hydraulic systems are depressurized.
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001)
   (3) Depressurize the applicable hydraulic reservoirs (Ref. AMM TASK 29-14-00-614-001).

   (1) Lift the aircraft on jacks (Ref. AMM TASK 07-11-00-581-001).

NOTE: It is not necessary to operate the LGCIU circuit breakers.
     (b) If the electrical power is necessary, do the precautions for flight configuration before you open the circuit breakers (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-860-001).

F. Get Access
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position at zone 731(741).
   (2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below zone 571(671).
   (3) Remove the cover plates (41) and (42) as follows:
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pins (47) and (48).
     (b) Remove the nuts (45) and (46), the bridge plates (43) and (44) and the cover plates (41) and (42).
4. Procedure
Subtask 32-11-18-020-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the MLG Side Stay
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
WARNING: BEFORE YOU INSTALL/REMOVE THE GSE-TOOL, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE APPLICABLE GSE INSTRUCTION MANUAL. WHILE YOU OPERATE THIS TOOL, CAREFULLY OBEY THEM. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS, INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE CAN OCCUR.
   (1) Remove the MLG lock springs (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-19-000-001).
   (2) Remove the MLG lockstay actuating-cylinder (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-21-000-001).
   (3) Use the SCRAPER - NON METALLIC to remove the sealants from:
  • The ends of the cardan pin (15)
  • The heads of the pins (22) and (23)
  • The heads of the bolts (4) and (19)
  • The nuts (16), (26) and (28)
  • The washers (3), (18) and (30)
  • The lock washer (2).
   (4) Disconnect the lockstay assembly as follows:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL DRESSINGS, THE PROXIMITY SWITCHES AND THE TARGETS ARE PROTECTED. THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE WHILE THE LOCKSTAY IS SAFETIED.
     (a) Remove the cotter pin (27) and the nut (26). Discard the cotter pin (27).
     (b) Remove the washer (25), the pin (23) and the washers (24).
     (c) Remove the cotter pin (29) and the nut (28). Discard the cotter pin (29).
     (d) Remove the washer (30), the pin (22) and the washer (21).
     (e) Safety the electrical components.
     (f) Put the CAP-BLANKING on each disconnected electrical connector and receptacle.
   (5) Move the lockstay away from the side stay (6) and remove the washers (20). Temporarily safety the lockstay in this position.
   (6) Install the 98D32104013001 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY (A) or the 98D32104013004 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY on the side stay (6) with:
  • The cables to the wing surface
  • The strap to the wing surface
  • The center joint of the side stay (6), in the center hole of the side stay splint-assembly.
   (7) Tighten the strap and connect the cables to the hook.
   (8) Remove the cotter pin (13) from the nut (12). Discard the cotter pin (13).
   (9) Remove the nut (12) and the washer (11) from the bolt (7).
   (10) Hold the end-cap (10) with the 460006442 SPANNER - HOLDING and remove the bolt (7).
   (11) Remove the end-caps (8) and (10).
   (12) Hold the side stay (6) in position.
   (13) Use the 460006440 EXTRACTOR to remove the pin (9).
   (14) Disconnect the lower cardan sub-assembly from the side stay (6) and remove the washers (14).
   (15) Remove and discard the lockwire from the bolts (19).
   (16) Remove the bolts (19) and the washers (18).
   (17) Remove the lock washer (17) from the nut (16).
NOTE: It is recommended to use plastic tools to remove the washers (18) and the lock washer (17) to prevent damage.
   (18) Use the DRT69678 LWR CARDAN SKT to remove the nut (16) from the cardan pin (15).
   (19) Remove the cardan pin (15) from the MLG leg assembly.
   (20) Loosely engage the cardan pin (15) to the side stay (6) with:
  • The washers (14)
  • The pin (9)
  • The end-caps (8) and (10)
  • The bolt (7)
  • The washer (11)
  • The nut (12).
     (a) Do not install the cotter pin (13) at this step.
   (21) Loosen the strap (but not fully) on the 98D32104013001 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY (A) or the 98D32104013004 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY.
   (22) Remove and discard the lockwire from the bolts (4).
   (23) Remove the bolts (4) and the washers (3).
   (24) Remove the lock washer (2) from the nut (1).
NOTE: It is recommended to use plastic tools to remove the washers (3) and the lock washer (2) to prevent damage.
   (25) Use the DRT69679 UPPER CARDAN SOCKET to remove the nut (1) from the cardan pin (5).
   (26) Move the side stay (6) until the cardan pin (5) comes out of the side stay bracket. Tighten the strap to prevent movement of the side stay (6).
   (27) Lower the side stay (6) on to the TRESTLE - PADDED and disconnect the cables from the hook.
   (28) If it is necessary to replace the side stay (6):

A. Removal of the MLG Side Stay
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
WARNING: BEFORE YOU INSTALL/REMOVE THE GSE-TOOL, READ THE INSTRUCTIONS IN THE APPLICABLE GSE INSTRUCTION MANUAL. WHILE YOU OPERATE THIS TOOL, CAREFULLY OBEY THEM. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THE INSTRUCTIONS, INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE CAN OCCUR.
   (1) Remove the MLG lock springs (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-19-000-001).
   (2) Remove the MLG lockstay actuating-cylinder (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-21-000-001).
   (3) Use the SCRAPER - NON METALLIC to remove the sealants from:
  • The ends of the cardan pin (15)
  • The heads of the pins (22) and (23)
  • The heads of the bolts (4) and (19)
  • The nuts (16), (26) and (28)
  • The washers (3), (18) and (30).
  • The lock washer (2).
   (4) Disconnect the lockstay assembly as follows:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL DRESSINGS, THE PROXIMITY SWITCHES AND THE TARGETS ARE PROTECTED. THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE WHILE THE LOCKSTAY IS SAFETIED.
     (a) Remove the cotter pin (27) and the nut (26). Discard the cotter pin (27).
     (b) Remove the washer (25), the pin (23) and the washers (24).
     (c) Remove the cotter pin (29) and the nut (28). Discard the cotter pin (29).
     (d) Remove the washer (30), the pin (22) and the washer (21).
     (e) Safety the electrical components.
   (5) Move the lockstay away from the side stay (6) and remove the washers (20). Temporarily safety the lockstay in this position.
   (6) Install the 98D32104013004 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY or the 98D32104013001 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY (A) or the 98D32104013002 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY (B) on the side stay (6) with:
  • The cables to the wing surface
  • The strap to the wing surface
  • The center joint of the side stay (6), in the center hole of the side stay splint-assembly.
   (7) Tighten the strap and connect the cables to the hook.
   (8) Remove the cotter pin (13) from the nut (12). Discard the cotter pin (13).
   (9) Remove the nut (12) and the washer (11) from the bolt (7).
   (10) Hold the end-cap (10) with the 460006442 SPANNER - HOLDING and remove the bolt (7).
   (11) Remove the end-caps (8) and (10).
   (12) Hold the side stay (6) in position.
   (13) Use the 460006440 EXTRACTOR to remove the pin (9).
   (14) Disconnect the lower cardan sub-assembly from the side stay (6) and remove the washers (14).
   (15) Cut, remove and discard the lockwire from the bolts (19).
   (16) Remove the bolts (19) and the washers (18).
   (17) Remove the lock washer (17) from the nut (16).
NOTE: It is recommended to use plastic tools to remove the washers (18) and the lock washer (17) to prevent damage.
   (18) Use the DRT69680 LWR CARDAN SKT to remove the nut (16) from the cardan pin (15).
   (19) Remove the cardan pin (15) from the MLG leg assembly.
   (20) Loosely engage the cardan pin (15) to the side stay (6) with:
  • The washers (14)
  • The pin (9)
  • The end-caps (8) and (10)
  • The bolt (7)
  • The washer (11)
  • The nut (12).
     (a) Do not install the cotter pin (13) at this step.
   (21) Loosen the strap (but not fully) on the 98D32104013004 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY or the 98D32104013001 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY (A) or the 98D32104013002 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY (B).
   (22) Cut, remove and discard the lockwire from the bolts (4).
   (23) Remove the bolts (4) and the washers (3).
   (24) Remove the lock washer (2) from the nut (1).
NOTE: It is recommended to use plastic tools to remove the washers (3) and the lock washer (2) to prevent damage.
   (25) Use the DRT69681 UPPER CARDAN SKT to remove the nut (1) from the cardan pin (5).
   (26) Move the side stay (6) until the cardan pin (5) comes out of the side stay bracket. Tighten the strap to prevent movement of the side stay (6).
     (a) Lower the side stay (6) on to the TRESTLE - PADDED and disconnect the cables from the hook.
   (27) If it is necessary to replace the side stay (6):
