Adjustment of the Rudder Control-Cables Length
WARNING:
PUT THE SAFETY DEVICES AND THE WARNING NOTICES IN POSITION BEFORE YOU START A TASK ON OR NEAR:
- THE FLIGHT CONTROLS
- THE FLIGHT CONTROL SURFACES
- THE LANDING GEAR AND THE RELATED DOORS
- COMPONENTS THAT MOVE.
WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT THE AIRCRAFT IS IN THE TEMPERATURE CONDITIONS (STABLE AMBIENT TEMPERATURE) SPECIFIED IN THE AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE CONFIGURATION PARAGRAPH.
CHANGES IN THE TEMPERATURE CAN CAUSE INCORRECT MEASUREMENTS.
CAUTION:
DO THIS PROCEDURE IN A HANGAR IF THERE ARE WIND GUSTS. WIND GUSTS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE LINKAGE WHEN THE RIGGING PINS ARE IN POSITION ON THE RUDDER CONTROL.

(b) If the tension is not correct, replace the cable tension regulator (1) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-21-45-000-001) (Ref. AMM TASK 27-21-45-400-001).
A. Adjustment of the Cable Linkage Assembly
(1) Measure the ambient temperature with a THERMOMETER.
(2) Use the adjustment graph to find the position of the index of the cable tension regulator (1), in relation to the ambient temperature.
(3) Install the 98D27203500000 BRACKET RUD CTL REG (10) on the mark (on the left or right side) of the flange of the cable tension regulator (1) (access door 811).
(a) With this tool, align the mark on the cable tension regulator (1) with the related graduation on the fixed scale (11).
(4) Bend the two cables to the same value and release them quickly. When you release the cables, make sure that the two quadrants of the tension regulator move easily (they are not caught).
(5) Remove the locking clips (3) from the turnbuckles (2).
(6) Turn the two turnbuckles (2) by the same value to adjust the length of the cable loop and:
(a) Read the value on the fixed scale (11) with a MIRROR - INSPECTION, FLEXIBLE. Make sure that the position of the index of the tension regulator (1) agrees with the values found on the graph.
(b) Install the locking clips (3) on the turnbuckles (2).
(c) Make sure that you can easily install (and remove) the 98A27901002000 PIN-RIGGING,RUDDER CONTROL (4) on (from) the input lever of the cable tension regulator (1).
(7) If you cannot install the 98A27901002000 PIN-RIGGING,RUDDER CONTROL easily, adjust the bolt (7):
(a) If necessary, remove the lockwire from the nuts (8) and discard it.
(b) Loosen the nuts (8) from the cable quadrant (6).
(c) Turn the bolts (7) on the cable quadrant (6) and make sure that:
(e) Tighten the nuts (8) on the cable quadrant (6). Do not safety the nuts (8) at this time.
(8) If you cannot adjust the control cables, do a visual inspection of the pulleys, of the tension regulator and the control cables (Ref. AMM TASK 27-21-00-210-002).
(a) If they are in good condition:
1 Make a mark on each front cable.

3 Keep the cables pulled and make a new mark on each front cable. Then, release the cables.
4 Measure the length between the two marks of each cable.
Connect the control rod (5) between the cable quadrant and the mixer (Ref. AMM TASK 27-21-00-840-001). Make sure that you can install the bolts easily.
