3. Job Set-up
Subtask 27-21-00-860-056-A
A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Energize the ground service network (Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-861-001).
   (2) Make sure that the hydraulic systems are depressurized
(Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-001), (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-002), (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-003).
   (3) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) on the CAPT and F/O rudder pedals to tell persons not to operate them.

B. Get Access
F Rudder Mechanical Control-Cables ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position at zone 132.
   (2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position at zone 154.
   (3) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position at zone 312.
   (4) Open access doors 825 and 826 (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-001).
   (5) Open access door 312AR.
   (6) Remove the panels that follow:
     (a) In zones 211 and 221:
       1 If necessary, remove the floor panels between FR8 and FR12 (Ref. AMM TASK 53-12-11-000-001) and (Ref. AMM D/O 06-41-53-00).
       2 Remove the floor panels between FR12 and FR20 (Ref. AMM TASK 53-12-12-000-001) and (Ref. AMM D/O 06-41-53-00).
     (b) In zones 231 and 241:
       1 Remove the floor panels between FR20 and FR24 and between FR32 and FR47 (Ref. AMM TASK 53-12-12-000-001), (Ref. AMM TASK 53-22-12-000-001), (Ref. AMM TASK 53-32-12-000-002) and (Ref. AMM D/O 06-41-53-00).
     (c) In zone 131:
       1 Remove the ceiling panels between FR24 and FR35 (Ref. AMM TASK 25-54-12-000-002) and (Ref. AMM D/O 06-41-53-00).
       2 Remove the forward cargo-compartment partition (Ref. AMM TASK 25-54-12-000-001) and (Ref. AMM D/O 06-41-53-00).
     (d) In zone 151 and 161:
       1 Remove the ceiling panels between FR47 and FR59 (Ref. AMM TASK 25-55-11-000-002), (Ref. AMM TASK 25-55-12-000-002) and (Ref. AMM D/O 06-41-53-00).
     (e) In zone 161:
       1 Remove the aft cargo-compartment partition (Ref. AMM TASK 25-55-12-000-001) and (Ref. AMM D/O 06-41-53-00).
4. Procedure
Subtask 27-21-00-210-051-A
A. Detailed Inspection of the Control Cables
   (1) Make sure that the fairleads are in the correct condition.
   (2) At FR70, make sure that the pressure seals (3) are correctly installed and in the correct condition.
   (3) Make sure that the turnbuckles (1) are safetied with the lock clips (2).
   (4) Do a detailed inspection of the cables:
     (a) Do a visual inspection of the cables to make sure that there are no broken wires.
NOTE: The very important areas where the wires can break along the length of the cables that:
  • Go through the fairleads and the pressure seals
  • Go around the pulleys, the tension regulator and the quadrant.
       1 Examine the lengths of the cables that:
  • Go through the fairleads and the pressure seals
  • Go around the pulleys, the tension regulator and the quadrant.

       2 Make sure that there is no broken wire:
  • Move the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) along the cables, in the two directions.
  • If the Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) catches on the cables, do a detailed check of the control cables (Ref. AMM TASK 20-24-12-200-001).
     (b) Do a visual inspection of the cables to make sure that they are not worn.
NOTE: The very important areas where the cables can wear along the length of the cables that:
  • Go through the fairleads and the pressure seals
  • Go around the pulleys, the tension regulator and the quadrant.
     (c) Do a visual inspection of the cables to make sure that they have no corrosion.
NOTE: The corrosion of cables frequently occurs in:
  • The battery compartments
  • The toilets
  • The landing gear wells
  • Other areas where the fumes and the liquids (that can cause corrosion) can collect.
   (5) Clean and apply the corrosion preventive compound on the cables (Ref. AMM TASK 20-24-11-100-001).
   (6) Make sure that the linkage can move freely and does not touch or rub against:
  • The tubing
  • The structures
  • The electrical routing
  • The adjacent controls.

A. Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.

B. Close Access

   (1) Install the panels that follow:
     (a) In zones 211 and 221:
       1 If necessary, install the floor panels between FR8 and FR12 (Ref. AMM TASK 53-12-11-400-001) and (Ref. AMM D/O 06-41-53-00).
       2 Install the floor panels between FR12 and FR20 (Ref. AMM TASK 53-12-12-400-001) and (Ref. AMM D/O 06-41-53-00).
     (b) In zones 231 and 241:
       1 Install the floor panels between FR20 and FR24 and between FR32 and FR47 (Ref. AMM TASK 53-22-12-400-001), (Ref. AMM TASK 53-32-12-400-002) and (Ref. AMM D/O 06-41-53-00).
     (c) In zone 131:
       1 Install the ceiling panels between FR24 and FR35 (Ref. AMM TASK 25-54-12-400-002) and (Ref. AMM D/O 06-41-53-00).
       2 Install the forward cargo-compartment partition (Ref. AMM TASK 25-54-12-400-001) and (Ref. AMM D/O 06-41-53-00).
     (d) In zone 151 and 161:
       1 Install the ceiling panels between FR47 and FR59 (Ref. AMM TASK 25-55-11-400-002), (Ref. AMM TASK 25-55-12-400-002) and (Ref. AMM D/O 06-41-53-00).
       2 Install the aft cargo-compartment partition (Ref. AMM TASK 25-55-12-400-001) and (Ref. AMM D/O 06-41-53-00).
   (2) Close access door 312AR.
   (3) Close access doors 825 and 826 (Ref. AMM TASK 52-30-00-860-002).
   (4) Remove the access platform(s).

C. Put the aircraft back to its initial configuration.
   (1) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (2) De-energize the ground service network (Ref. AMM TASK 24-42-00-862-001).
