3. Job Set-up
Subtask 71-00-00-941-133-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions and Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Do the job set-up as for an engine start (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-823) or (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-822).
4. Procedure
Subtask 71-00-00-720-081-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Run the Engine at Idle
WARNING: BEFORE YOU START THE ENGINE, MAKE SURE THAT:
  • YOU OBEY ALL THE ENGINE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
  • YOU DO ALL THE OPERATIONS NECESSARY TO PREVENT MOVEMENT OF THE AIRCRAFT.
IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE PRECAUTIONS, INJURY TO THE PERSONNEL AND DAMAGE TO THE AIRCRAFT AND/OR EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.
   (1) Start the engine by the automatic start procedure (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-823).
NOTE: If you must do test No. 3A and test No. 6, it is possible to start the engine only one time.
NOTE: This is the recommended start method for the usual conditions.
NOTE: The fuel system can contain air after the replacement of fuel components and tubes. If this is the first engine start after the replacement of fuel components or tubes, the fuel flow can change quickly while the air is purged from the fuel system. This temporary condition is usual and satisfactory.
   (2) As an option, start the engine by the manual start procedure (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-822).
     (a) It is recommended that you use the manual start procedure at all high altitude airports.
     (b) It is recommended that you use the manual start procedure for starts with low starter air pressure supply (external pneumatic power source).
   (3) Let the engine become stable for five minutes at idle power.
   (4) Make sure that all the engine parameters are in the permitted limits (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-910-803).
   (5) Do the shutdown of the engine (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-860-814).

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Maintenance
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO THE DEACTIVATION OF THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO MAINTENANCE WORK ON OR AROUND THE THRUST REVERSER. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS PROCEDURE, THERE IS A RISK OF UNWANTED OPERATION AND THUS OF INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).

E. Visual Check
   (1) Do a visual check of the fuel and oil system tubes, fittings, manifolds and components for leaks.
NOTE: This procedure can be used to find a leak at any of the external fuel or oil system tubes and components. This procedure can also be used after a maintenance component removal and replacement procedure.
   (2) Look at the engine cases for oil and fuel stains.
   (3) Repair or replace the tubes, fittings, and components as necessary, if you find leakage.
   (4) Do a General Visual Inspection (GVI) of the engine and pylon drain system for leaks (Ref. AMM TASK 71-71-00-210-801).
   (5) Do this procedure again as a leak check after you replace or repair the tubes, tube flanges, fittings and components, if necessary.
