4. Procedure
Subtask 56-21-13-210-051-A
A. Inspection
   (1) Do a detailed inspection of the inner and outer window panes of the cabin windows and the passenger/crew door windows. Do this inspection for damage or discontinuities.
Look for:

- Crazing (1): small cracks that go in all directions

- Deep scratches or surface cracks (2) (without crazing)

- Fine scratches or surface cracks (3) (with crazing)

- Crazing (4): small cracks that go in one direction

- Cracks (5) (usually extend through the full material thickness)

- Orange peel effect (6): irregular cracks on or below the surface

- Fine scratches (7) (they can become cracks)

- Chipping (8) (usually only at the window pane edges)

- Delamination (9): equivalent-to-slate separation of the material

- Pitting (10): effect when hard particles hit the surface

- Vent hole damage (11): small particles from the edge of the hole.

   (2) You must use the FLASHLIGHT at different angles to look for damage in the window panes.
   (3) If you find damage during the inspection of the window panes:
     (a) You must measure the depth of the damage (refer to step (4)).
     (b) You must replace the window panes that have damage that is more than the permitted limits.
   (4) Measure the depth of the damage, as follows:
     (a) Put the PAPER - GRAPH, TRANSPARENT on the damaged area of the window.
NOTE: You can also use the MICROMETER - OPTICAL as an alternative to the transparent graph paper.
     (b) Put the light source:
  • At 45 degrees from the opposite surface of the window pane
  • At 90 degrees from the longitudinal axis of the damage.
     (c) Set the light source to ON.
     (d) Make a line around the dark area.
NOTE: The depth of the damage shows as a dark area on the transparent graph paper.
     (e) Measure and record the distance at the maximum depth.
     (f) Multiply the dimension by 1.6 to get the correct depth.
NOTE: You can use Mitutoyo surface tester SJ201 to measure the depth of the damage (Ref. AMM TASK 56-10-00-200-004).
Subtask 56-21-13-210-055-A
B. Unscheduled Inspection
   (1) Do a visual inspection of the inner and outer panes of the cabin and passenger/crew door windows for cracks:
     (a) If you find cracks only on the inner panes of the cabin or passenger/crew door window, 10 flight legs are permitted in the non-pressurized flight condition only.
   (2) Do a check of the inner ply of the cabin window for defects:
     (a) If you find damage on the cabin window, make sure that before each flight you record the condition of its inner ply (outer ply with cracks).
5. Close-up
Subtask 56-21-13-410-056-A
