SPECIAL DETAILED INSPECTION (ROTO) OF PYLON, LOWER SPAR AND LATERAL PANEL, AT JUNCTION WITH FORWARD LATERAL SPAR, BETWEEN RIB 2 AND RIB 3, ATTACHMENT BOLTS HOLES, LH/RH.

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the ENG/MODE selector switch and the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

B. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER IS LOCKED. IF NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE REVERSER.
   (1) Make the thrust reverser unserviceable for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-807).

   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

   (2) Open the thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-806):

   (3) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position:
     (a) For the left pylon, in zone 415

   (4) Remove the power plant (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-51-000-803).
   (5) Remove the pylon lateral access-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 54-51-21-000-804):
     (a) For the left pylon: 415AL 415AR 415BR
     (b) For the right pylon: 425AL 425AR 425BR.

D. Removal of the Fire Seal Strips
   (1) Remove the Rear Mount Fairing (RMF) assembly (Ref. AMM TASK 54-57-22-000-818).
   (2) Remove the Rear Mount Fairing (RMF) block fire-seal (Ref. AMM TASK 54-57-22-000-817).
   (3) Remove the thermal blankets between RIB1 and RIB5 (Ref. AMM TASK 54-51-61-000-802).
   (4) Remove the fire seal strip (1) that is installed on the left side of the pylon box between RIB1 and RIB4. To do this:
CAUTION: WHEN YOU REMOVE THE SCREWS, MAKE SURE THAT YOU RECORD THE CORRECT POSITION OF EACH OF THEM. THE SCREWS HAVE DIFFERENT LENGTHS.
     (a) Hold the bracket (15) that is installed on the pylon box and the fire seal strip (1).
     (b) Remove the nuts (14) and the bolts (10).
     (c) Remove the bracket (15) from the pylon box and the fire seal strip (1).
     (d) Hold the fire seal strip (1) that is installed on the pylon box.
     (e) Remove the nut (8) and the bolt (11).
     (f) Remove the nuts (9) and the bolts (4), (6), (7), and (12).
     (g) Remove the nut (13) and the bolt (5).
     (h) Remove the bolts (2) and (3).
     (i) Remove the fire seal strip (1) from the pylon box.
   (5) Remove the fire seal strip (19) and (23) that are installed on the right side of the pylon box between RIB1 and RIB4. To do this:
CAUTION: WHEN YOU REMOVE THE SCREWS, MAKE SURE THAT YOU RECORD THE CORRECT POSITION OF EACH OF THEM. THE SCREWS HAVE DIFFERENT LENGTHS.
     (a) Hold the fire seal strip (23) that is installed on the pylon box and the grommet (26).
     (b) Remove the bolts (22).
     (c) Remove the fire seal strip (23) from the pylon box and the grommet (26).
     (d) Hold the bracket (29) that is installed on the pylon box and the fire seal strip (19).
     (e) Remove the nuts (30) and the bolts (17).
     (f) Remove the bracket (29) from the pylon box and the fire seal strip (19).
     (g) Hold the fire seal strip (19) that is installed on the pylon box and the grommet (26).
     (h) Remove the nut (28) and the bolt (16).
     (i) Remove the nuts (18) and the bolts (20).
     (j) Remove the bolts (21).
     (k) Remove the fire seal strip (19) from the pylon box and the grommet (26).
     (l) Hold the grommet (26) that is installed on the pylon box at RIB2.
     (m) Remove the nuts (31), the bolts (24) and (27) and the washer (25).
     (n) Remove the grommet (26) from the pylon box.

E. Preparation of the Inspection Area
   (1) Remove the fasteners to inspect the holes. Refer to the Structural Repair ( SRM 514200).
   (2) Remove the sealant and/or paint from the inspection area if this is necessary for the Non-destructive Testing Manual (NTM) task.
   (3) Make sure that the inspection area is sufficiently clean to do a satisfactory inspection of the area.
   (4) If it is not sufficiently clean, clean the inspection area with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (5) Make sure that there is no (TPS) layer and if there is a TPS layer, remove it (Ref. AMM TASK 51-78-00-916-001).
   (6) Use a FLASHLIGHT and a MIRROR - INSPECTION for the inspection, if necessary.
4. Procedure
Subtask 54-51-00-250-060-A
A. Inspection
   (1) Do a special detailed inspection (ROTO) of the attachment bolt holes for damage or discontinuities. Do this inspection at the junction of the lower spar and the lateral panel of the forward lateral spar. This inspection is applicable between RIB2 and RIB3 on the left and right sides of the pylon. Refer to the Non-destructive Testing Manual ( NTM 545311).
   (2) Make a report after the NTM inspection:
     (a) Corrosion damage:
  • If you find corrosion damage, refer to the Structural Repair Manual ( SRM 512200) for the corrosion types, inspection, removal and subsequent corrosion protection.
     (b) Other damage (scratches, cracks, gouges, dents, creases):
  • If you find this type of damage, refer to the Structural Repair Manual ( SRM 511100) for the damage types, classification and corrective action.

A. Sealant or Paint Application
   (1) If the NTM procedure asked to remove the sealant and/or paint from the inspection area, apply sealant (refer to SRM 512400) or paint (refer to SRM 512300) on the inspection area.

B. Installation of the Components
   (1) Refer to the installation drawing in the SRM identification section for the new fastener references.
   (2) Install the fasteners of the inspected holes. Refer to the Structural Repair Manual ( SRM 514200).

C. Installation of the Fire Seal Strips
   (1) Install the fire seal strip (1) on the left side of the pylon box between RIB1 and RIB4. To do this:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU INSTALL EACH OF THE SCREWS IN ITS CORRECT POSITION. THE SCREWS HAVE DIFFERENT LENGTHS. IF YOU DO NOT INSTALL EACH OF THE SCREWS IN ITS CORRECT POSITION, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
     (a) Put and hold the fire seal strip (1) in position on the pylon box.
     (b) Install the bolts (2) and (3) and tighten them.
     (c) Install the bolt (5) and the nut (13)
     (d) Tighten the nut (13).
     (e) Install the bolts (4), (6), (7) and (12) and the nuts (9).
     (f) Tighten the nuts (9).
     (g) Install the bolt (11) and the nut (8).
     (h) Tighten the nut (8).
     (i) Put and hold the bracket (15) in position on the fire seal strip (1) and the pylon box.
     (j) Install the bolts (10) and the nuts (14).
     (k) Tighten the nuts (14).
   (2) Install the fire seal strips (19) and (23) on the right side of the pylon box between RIB1 and RIB4. To do this:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU INSTALL EACH OF THE SCREWS IN ITS CORRECT POSITION. THE SCREWS HAVE DIFFERENT LENGTHS. IF YOU DO NOT INSTALL EACH OF THE SCREWS IN ITS CORRECT POSITION, YOU CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
     (a) Put and hold the grommet (26) in position on the pylon box.
     (b) Install the washers (25), the bolts (24) and (27) and the nuts (31).
     (c) Tighten the nuts (31).
     (d) Put and hold the fire seal strip (19) in position on the pylon box and the grommet (26).
     (e) Install the bolts (21) and tighten them.
     (f) Install the bolts (20) and the nuts (18).
     (g) Tighten the nuts (18).
     (h) Install the bolt (16) and the nut (28).
     (i) Tighten the nut (28).
     (j) Put and hold the bracket (29) in position on the fire seal strip (19) and the pylon box.
     (k) Install the bolts (17) and the nuts (30).
     (l) Tighten the nuts (30).
     (m) Put and hold the fire seal strip (23) in position on the grommet (26) and the pylon box.
     (n) Install the bolts (22) and tighten them.
   (3) Install the thermal blankets between RIB1 and RIB5 (Ref. AMM TASK 54-51-61-400-802).
   (4) Install the Rear Mount Fairing (RMF) block fire-seal (Ref. AMM TASK 54-57-22-400-817).
   (5) Install the Rear Mount Fairing (RMF) assembly (Ref. AMM TASK 54-57-22-400-818).

D. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Install the pylon lateral access-doors: (Ref. AMM TASK 54-51-21-400-803)
     (a) For the left pylon: 415AL 415AR 415BR
     (b) For the right pylon: 425AL 425AR 425BR.
   (3) Install the power plant (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-51-400-803).
   (4) Remove the access platform(s).
   (5) Close the thrust reverser cowl-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-410-806):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)
