A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the ENG/MODE selector switch and the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

B. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER IS LOCKED. IF NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE REVERSER.
   (1) Make the thrust reverser unserviceable for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-807).

C. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

     (b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 2)

   (2) Open the thrust-reverser cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-806):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)

     (b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 2)
461AL 462AR.
   (3) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position:
     (a) For the left pylon, in zone 415
     (b) For the right pylon, in zone 425.
4. Procedure
Subtask 54-51-61-020-051-A
A. Removal of the Thermal Blanket between RIB1 and RIB5
   (1) Make match marks on all applicable pipes before you disconnect them.
   (2) Disconnect the applicable pipes (2), (4), (6) and (12) from the left pylon. To do this:
     (a) Loosen the nuts (1), (3), (5) and (13).
     (b) Disconnect the pipes (2), (4), (6) and (12).
     (c) Put the blanking plugs on the disconnected pipe end.
   (3) Disconnect the applicable pipes (15), (17) and (18) from right pylon. To do this:
     (a) Loosen the nuts (14). (16) and (19).
     (b) Disconnect the pipes (15), (17) and (18).
     (c) Put the blanking plugs on the disconnected pipe end.
   (4) Remove the engine fire-extinguishing pipe (8) from its connection. To do this:
     (a) Loosen the nut (7).
     (b) Disconnect the engine fire-extinguishing pipe (8).
     (c) Remove the screws (10) and the washers (9).
     (d) Remove the engine fire-extinguishing pipe (8).
     (e) Put the blanking plugs on the disconnected pipe end.
   (5) Remove the pylon fire-detector ramp-assembly (Ref. AMM TASK 26-12-16-000-804).
   (6) Hold the thermal blankets (24), (23) and (20).
   (7) Remove the bolts (22) and the washers (21).
   (8) Remove the thermal blankets (24), (23) and (20).
