3. Job Set-up
Subtask 32-11-18-941-050-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) As necessary, use the applicable SAFETY BARRIERS, specified by the operator's instructions and your local regulations.
   (2) Make sure that the ground safety locks are installed on the landing gear (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-481-001).
   (3) On panel 400VU:
  • Make sure that the landing-gear control-lever 6GA is in the DOWN position
  • Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the landing gear.
   (4) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) on the ground service connection to tell persons not to pressurize:
  • The Green hydraulic system
  • The Yellow hydraulic system.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Disconnect the isolation coupling of the PTU (Ref. AMM TASK 29-23-00-860-001).
   (2) De-pressurize the Yellow and the Green hydraulic systems (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-001) and (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-002).
   (3) Depressurize the applicable hydraulic reservoirs (Ref. AMM TASK 29-14-00-614-001).

C. Lift the Aircraft
   (1) Lift the aircraft on jacks (Ref. AMM TASK 07-11-00-581-001).

D. Flight Configuration Precautions
   (1) If the electrical power is not necessary for other maintenance tasks, de-energize the aircraft electrical circuits (Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-862-002). Then it is not necessary to operate the LGCIU circuit breakers.
   (2) If the electrical power is necessary, do the precautions for flight configuration (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-860-001) before you open the circuit breakers.

F. Get Access
   (1) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE below the applicable side-stay, at zone 733(743).
   (2) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT) in line with the trailing edge of the applicable wing, at zone 580(680).
   (3) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position below zone 571(671).
   (4) Remove the cover plates (41) and (42) as follows:
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pins (47) and (48).
     (b) Remove the nuts (45) and (46), the bridge plates (43) and (44) and the cover plates (41) and (42).
4. Procedure
Subtask 32-11-18-020-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Removal of the MLG Side-Stay
F MLG Side-Stay - Circlip Detail ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL THE MLG SIDE-STAY. IT WEIGHS 62.5kg (137.5lb).
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL A COTTER PIN. EACH TIME YOU REMOVE A COTTER PIN DURING THE TASK, DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. A LOOSE COTTER PIN CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND.
   (1) Remove the lock springs (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-19-000-001).
   (2) Remove the lockstay actuating cylinder (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-21-000-001).
   (3) Disconnect the lockstay assembly as follows:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL DRESSINGS, THE PROXIMITY SWITCHES AND THE TARGETS ARE PROTECTED. THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE WHILE THE LOCKSTAY IS SAFETIED.
     (a) Remove the cotter pin (23), the nut (24) and the washer (22). Discard the cotter pin (23).
     (b) Remove the pin (20) and the washers (21).
     (c) Remove the cotter pin (25), the nut (26) and the washer (27). Discard the cotter pin (25).
     (d) Remove the pin (19), the washer (18) and the washers (17).
     (e) Safety the electrical components.
     (f) Put the CAP - BLANKING on the electrical dressings, the proximity switches and the targets.
   (4) Move the lockstay away from the side-stay (6) and temporarily safety the lockstay in this position.
   (5) Install the 98D32104013001 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY (A) on the side-stay (6) with:
  • The cables to the wing surface
  • The strap to the wing surface
  • The center joint of the side-stay (6) installed in the center hole of the 98D32104013001 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY (A).
   (6) Tighten the strap and connect the cables to the hook. Tighten the cable.
   (7) Unlock the tab washer (14).
   (8) Hold the end cap (7) with the 460006442 SPANNER - HOLDING and remove the bolt (13) and the tab washer (14).
   (9) Remove the end caps (7) and (15).
   (10) Use the 460006440 EXTRACTOR to remove the pin (16).
   (11) Disconnect the lower cardan sub-assembly from the lower side-stay assembly (6) and remove the washers (28).
   (12) Make sure that all the related parts are clean before you remove the circlip (12). Remove the circlip (12) as follows:
     (a) Use an applicable tool to release the tail of the circlip (12) from the key slot of the lock washer (11).
     (b) Hold the tail of the circlip (12) with a pair of the PLIERS - CIRCLIP.
     (c) Carefully pull the circlip (12) (in a clockwise direction) until it releases from the chamfered slot in the nut (10).
   (13) Remove the locking washer (11) from the nut (10).
   (14) Use the 460005834 TUBE SPANNER to remove the nut (10).
   (15) Remove the washer (9) from the lower cardan (8).
   (16) Remove the lower cardan (8) from the MLG leg assembly.
   (17) Loosely engage the lower cardan (8) to the lower side-stay (6) with:
  • The washers (28)
  • The pin (16)
  • The end caps (7) and (15)
  • The tab washer (14)
  • The bolt (13).
     (a) Do not lock the tab washer (14).
   (18) Loosen the strap (but not fully) on the 98D32104013001 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY (A).
   (19) Make sure that all the related parts are clean before you remove the circlip (4). Remove the circlip (4) as follows:
     (a) Use an applicable tool to release the tail of the circlip (4) from the key slot of the lock washer (3).
     (b) Hold the tail of the circlip (4) with a pair of the PLIERS - THIN NOSE.
     (c) Carefully pull the circlip (4) (in a clockwise direction) until it releases from the chamfered slot in the nut (2).
   (20) Remove the lock washer (3) from the nut (2).
   (21) Use the 460005812 SPANNER - TUBE or the 460007271 SPANNER-TUBE to remove the nut (2).
   (22) Remove the washer (1) from the upper cardan (5).
   (23) Move the side-stay (6) until the upper cardan (5) comes out of the side-stay bracket. Tighten the strap to prevent movement of the side-stay (6).
   (24) Lower the side-stay (6) on to the TRESTLE - PADDED and disconnect the cables from the hook.
   (25) If you are to replace the side-stay (6), remove the 98D32104013001 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY (A).
   (26) Remove the seal (32) from the bush (33). Discard the seal (32).

A. Removal of the MLG Side-Stay

   (1) Remove the lock springs (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-19-000-001).
   (2) Remove the lockstay actuating cylinder (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-21-000-001).
   (3) Disconnect the lockstay assembly as follows:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL DRESSINGS, THE PROXIMITY SWITCHES AND THE TARGETS ARE PROTECTED. THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE WHILE THE LOCKSTAY IS SAFETIED.
     (a) Remove the cotter pin (25), the nut (26) and the washer (24). Discard the cotter pin (25).
     (b) Remove the pin (22) and the washers (23).
     (c) Remove the cotter pin (27), the nut (28) and the washer (29). Discard the cotter pin (27).
     (d) Remove the pin (21), the washer (20) and the washers (19).
     (e) Safety the electrical components.
     (f) Put the CAP - BLANKING on the electrical dressings, the proximity switches and the targets.
   (4) Move the lockstay away from the side-stay (6) and temporarily safety the lockstay in this position.
   (5) Install the 98D32104013004 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY on the side-stay (6) with:
  • The cables to the wing surface
  • The strap to the wing surface
  • The center joint of the side-stay (6) installed in the center hole of the 98D32104013004 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY.
   (6) Tighten the strap and connect the cables to the hook. Tighten the cable.
   (7) Remove the cotter pin (13) from the nut (12). Discard the cotter pin (13).
   (8) Remove the nut (12), the washer (11), the bolt (7) and the end caps (8) and (10).
   (9) Use the 460006440 EXTRACTOR to remove the pin (9).
   (10) Disconnect the lower cardan sub-assembly from the lower side-stay assembly (6) and remove the washers (30).
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (11) Cut, remove and discard the lockwire from the bolts (18).
   (12) Remove the bolts (18) and the washers (17).
   (13) Use the 460007272 SPANNER-TUBE to remove the nut (15) from the lower cardan (14).
   (14) Remove the lower cardan (14) from the MLG leg assembly.
   (15) Loosely engage the lower cardan (14) to the lower side-stay (6) with:
  • The washers (30)
  • The pin (9)
  • The end caps (8) and (10)
  • The bolt (7)
  • The washer (11)
  • The nut (12).
     (a) Do not install the cotter pin (13).
   (16) Loosen the strap (but not fully) on the 98D32104013004 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY.
   (17) Make sure that all the related parts are clean before you remove the circlip (4). Remove the circlip (4) as follows:
     (a) Use an applicable tool to release the tail of the circlip (4) from the key slot of the locking washer (3).
     (b) Hold the tail of the circlip (4) with a pair of the PLIERS - THIN NOSE.
     (c) Carefully pull the circlip (4) (in a clockwise direction) until it releases from the chamfered slot in the nut (2).
   (18) Remove the locking washer (3) from the nut (2).
   (19) Use the 460005812 SPANNER - TUBE or the 460007271 SPANNER-TUBE to remove the nut (2).
   (20) Remove the washer (1) from the upper cardan (5).
   (21) Move the side-stay (6) until the upper cardan (5) comes out of the side-stay bracket. Tighten the strap to prevent movement of the side-stay (6).
   (22) Lower the side-stay (6) on to the TRESTLE - PADDED and disconnect the cables from the hook.
   (23) If you are to replace the side-stay (6), remove the 98D32104013004 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY.
   (24) Remove the seal (32) from the bush (33). Discard the seal (32).

A. Removal of the MLG Side-Stay

   (1) Remove the lock springs (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-19-000-001).
   (2) Remove the lockstay actuating cylinder (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-21-000-001).
   (3) Disconnect the lockstay assembly as follows:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL DRESSINGS, THE PROXIMITY SWITCHES AND THE TARGETS ARE PROTECTED. THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE WHILE THE LOCKSTAY IS SAFETIED.
     (a) Remove the cotter pin (25), the nut (26) and the washer (24). Discard the cotter pin (25).
     (b) Remove the pin (22) and the washers (23).
     (c) Remove the cotter pin (27), the nut (28) and the washer (29). Discard the cotter pin (27).
     (d) Remove the pin (21), the washer (20) and the washers (19).
     (e) Safety the electrical components.
     (f) Put the CAP - BLANKING on the electrical dressings, the proximity switches and the targets.
   (4) Move the lockstay away from the side-stay (6) and temporarily safety the lockstay in this position.
   (5) Install the 98D32104013004 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY on the side-stay (6) with:
  • The cables to the wing surface
  • The strap to the wing surface
  • The center joint of the side-stay (6) installed in the center hole of the 98D32104013004 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY.
   (6) Tighten the strap and connect the cables to the hook. Tighten the cable.
   (7) Remove the cotter pin (13) from the nut (12). Discard the cotter pin (13).
   (8) Remove the nut (12), the washer (11) the bolt (7) and the end caps (8) and (10).
   (9) Use the 460006440 EXTRACTOR to remove the pin (9).
   (10) Disconnect the lower cardan sub-assembly from the lower side-stay assembly (6) and remove the washers (30).
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (11) Cut, remove and discard the lockwire from the bolts (18).
   (12) Remove the bolts (18) and the washers (17).
   (13) Use the 460007272 SPANNER-TUBE to remove the nut (16) from the lower cardan (14).
   (14) Remove the lower cardan (14) from the MLG leg assembly.
   (15) Loosely engage the lower cardan (14) to the lower side-stay (6) with:
  • The washers (30)
  • The pin (9)
  • The end caps (8) and (10)
  • The bolt (7)
  • The washer (11)
  • The nut (12).
     (a) Do not install the cotter pin (13).
   (16) Loosen the strap (but not fully) on the 98D32104013004 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY.
   (17) Make sure that all the related parts are clean before you remove the circlip (4). Remove the circlip (4) as follows:
     (a) Use an applicable tool to release the tail of the circlip (4) from the key slot of the locking washer (3).
     (b) Hold the tail of the circlip (4) with a pair of the PLIERS - THIN NOSE.
     (c) Carefully pull the circlip (4) (in a clockwise direction) until it releases from the chamfered slot in the nut (2).
   (18) Remove the locking washer (3) from the nut (2).
   (19) Use the 460005812 SPANNER - TUBE or the 460007271 SPANNER-TUBE to remove the nut (2).
   (20) Remove the washer (1) from the upper cardan (5).
   (21) Move the side-stay (6) until the upper cardan (5) comes out of the side-stay bracket. Tighten the strap to prevent movement of the side-stay (6).
   (22) Lower the side-stay (6) on to the TRESTLE - PADDED and disconnect the cables from the hook.
   (23) If you are to replace the side-stay (6), remove the 98D32104013004 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY.
   (24) Remove the seal (32) from the bush (33). Discard the seal (32).

A. Removal of the MLG Side-Stay

   (1) Remove the lock springs (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-19-000-001).
   (2) Remove the lockstay actuating cylinder (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-21-000-001).
   (3) Disconnect the lockstay assembly as follows:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT THE ELECTRICAL DRESSINGS, THE PROXIMITY SWITCHES AND THE TARGETS ARE PROTECTED. THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE WHILE THE LOCKSTAY IS SAFETIED.
     (a) Remove and discard the cotter pin (27).
     (b) Remove the nut (26) and the washer (25).
     (c) Remove the pin (23) and the washers (24).
     (d) Remove and discard the cotter pin (29).
     (e) Remove the nut (28) and the washer (30).
     (f) Remove the pin (22), the washer (21) and the washers (20).
     (g) Safety the electrical components.
     (h) Put the CAP - BLANKING on the electrical dressings, the proximity switches and the targets.
   (4) Move the lockstay away from the side-stay (6) and temporarily safety the lockstay in this position.
   (5) Install the 98D32104013001 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY (A) on the side-stay (6) with:
  • The cables to the wing surface
  • The strap to the wing surface
  • The center joint of the side-stay (6) installed in the center hole of the 98D32104013001 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY (A).
   (6) Tighten the strap and connect the cables to the hook. Tighten the cable.
   (7) Remove and discard the cotter pin (7).
   (8) Remove the nut (8), the washer (9), the bolt (17) and the end caps (10) and (18).
   (9) Use the 460006440 EXTRACTOR to remove the pin (19).
   (10) Disconnect the lower cardan sub-assembly from the lower side-stay (6) and remove the washers (11).
   (11) Make sure that all the related parts are clean before you remove the circlip (16). Remove the circlip (16) as follows:
     (a) Use an applicable tool to release the tail of the circlip (16) from the key slot of the lock washer (15).
     (b) Hold the tail of the circlip (16) with a pair of the PLIERS - CIRCLIP.
     (c) Carefully pull the circlip (16) in a clockwise direction until it releases from the chamfered slot in the nut (14).
   (12) Remove the locking washer (15) from the nut (14).
   (13) Use the 460005834 TUBE SPANNER to remove the nut (14).
   (14) Remove the washer (13) from the lower cardan (12).
   (15) Remove the lower cardan (12) from the MLG leg assembly.
   (16) Loosely engage the lower cardan (12) to the lower side-stay (6) with:
  • The washers (11)
  • The pin (19)
  • The end caps (10) and (18)
  • The bolt (13)
  • The washer (9)
  • The nut (8).
     (a) You must not install the cotter pin (7) at this time.
   (17) Loosen the strap (but not fully) on the 98D32104013001 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY (A).
   (18) Make sure that all the related parts are clean before you remove the circlip (4). Remove the circlip (4) as follows:
     (a) Use an applicable tool to release the tail of the circlip (4) from the key slot of the lock washer (3).
     (b) Hold the tail of the circlip (4) with a pair of the PLIERS - THIN NOSE.
     (c) Carefully pull the circlip (4) in a clockwise direction until it releases from the chamfered slot in the nut (2).
   (19) Remove the lock washer (3) from the nut (2).
   (20) Use the 460005812 SPANNER - TUBE or the 460007271 SPANNER-TUBE to remove the nut (2).
   (21) Remove the washer (1) from the upper cardan (5).
   (22) Move the side-stay (6) until the upper cardan (5) comes out of the side-stay bracket. Tighten the strap to prevent movement of the side-stay (6).
   (23) Lower the side-stay (6) on to the TRESTLE - PADDED and disconnect the cables from the hook.
   (24) If it is necessary to replace the side-stay (6), remove the 98D32104013001 SPLINT ASSEMBLY - SIDE STAY (A).
   (25) Remove the seal (32) from the bush (33). Discard the seal (32).
