3. Job Set-up
Subtask 32-11-13-941-058-A
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) Make sure that the SAFETY BARRIER(S) are in position.
   (2) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in the cockpit to tell persons not to operate the landing gear and the brakes.
   (3) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are on the ground service connections to tell persons not to operate:
  • The Green hydraulic system
  • The Yellow hydraulic system.
   (4) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to operate the landing gear doors.
   (5) Make sure that the safety devices are on the landing gear (Ref. AMM TASK 32-00-00-481-001).

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the applicable hydraulic systems are depressurized (Ref. AMM TASK 29-00-00-864-001).
   (2) Make sure that the applicable hydraulic reservoirs are depressurized (Ref. AMM TASK 29-14-00-614-001).
   (3) Make sure that MLG shock absorber is removed (Ref. AMM TASK 32-11-13-000-001).
4. Procedure
Subtask 32-11-13-420-055-E ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the seal grooves and the interfaces of the jacking dome (22).
   (2) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (3) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (4) Use a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) to dry the seal grooves.
   (5) Lubricate the new items that follow with Mineral Hydraulic Fluid-Damper - - (Material No.02BBB9) or Mineral Hydraulic Fluid & Additives-Damper Shock Struts - (Material No.02CBB1) or Mineral Hydraulic Fluid & Additives-Damper Landing Gear - (Material No.02CCC1) :
   (6) Apply a thin layer of Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) on the internal surface of the lower bearing housing (4).
NOTE: For lubricant grease specification and lubrication requirements, refer to (Ref. AMM D/O 12-22-00-00).
   (7) Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean AREA A on:
  • The tube assembly (19)
  • The interface of the sliding tube sub-assembly (24).
   (8) Apply a thin layer of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-Medium Temp. Area - - (Material No.06LCG9) to AREA A on:
  • The tube assembly (19)
  • The interface of the sliding tube sub-assembly (24).
Subtask 32-11-13-420-055-I ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Use a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the seal grooves and the interfaces of the jacking dome (23).

   (6) Apply a thin layer of Synthetic Ester base Grease-General Purpose Low Temp - (Material No.03HBD9) or Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) on the internal surface of the lower bearing housing (10).
NOTE: For lubricant grease specification and lubrication requirements, refer to (Ref. AMM D/O 12-22-00-00).
   (7) Use a Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean area A on:
  • The tube assembly (20)
  • The interface of the sliding tube sub-assembly (25).
   (8) Apply a thin layer of Non Hardening Jointing Putty-Medium Temp. Area - - (Material No.06LCG9) to area A on:
  • The tube assembly (20)
  • The interface of the sliding tube sub-assembly (25).
   (9) Lubricate the items that follow with Mineral Hydraulic Fluid-Damper - - (Material No.02BBB9) or Mineral Hydraulic Fluid & Additives-Damper Shock Struts - (Material No.02CBB1) or Mineral Hydraulic Fluid & Additives-Damper Landing Gear - (Material No.02CCC1) :
  • The tube assembly (20)
  • The lower charging valve-housing (27).

A. Preparation for Installation

   (5) Lubricate the new items that follow with Mineral Hydraulic Fluid-Damper - - (Material No.02BBB9) :
   (6) Apply Synthetic Oil base Grease-General Purpose Clay Thickened - (Material No.03GBB1) on the internal surface of the lower bearing housing (16).
   (7) Use Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) made moist with Non Aqueous Cleaner-- Petroleum Based - (Material No.08BBB1) to clean:
  • The bolts (43)
  • The washers (42)
  • The interface of the jacking dome (35) and the sliding tube sub-assembly (37)
  • The interface of the tube assembly (28) and the jacking dome (35)
  • Area A on the tube assembly (28) and the interface of the sliding tube sub-assembly (37).
   (8) Apply Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Hydraulic (Material No.06LDG6) to:
  • The bolts (43)
  • The washers (42)
  • The interface of the jacking dome (35) and the sliding tube sub-assembly (37)
  • The interface of the tube assembly (28) and the jacking dome (35)
  • Area A on the tube assembly (28) and the interface of the sliding tube sub-assembly (37).
Subtask 32-11-13-420-056-G ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Installation of the Sliding Tube Sub-Assembly of the MLG Shock Absorber
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (1) Install the new O-ring (20) and the new backing ring (21) on the tube assembly (19).
   (2) Put the tube assembly (19) in position in the sliding tube sub-assembly (24). Make sure that the holes for the charging valve align correctly.
   (3) Install the new AIPC 32-11-13-02-270 BACKING RING (27) and the new AIPC 32-11-13-02-260 O-RING (28) on the lower charging-valve housing (26).
   (4) Install the lower charging-valve housing (26) together with the charging valve (25) to the tube assembly (19).
   (5) Install the screws (30) and the washers (29).
   (6) TORQUE the screws (30) to between 1.0 and 0.5 m.daN (88.50 and 44.25 lbf.in )
T.
   (7) Safety the screws (30) with the 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
   (8) Apply the Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.
06LDG2) to the mating faces of the new AIPC 32-11-13-02-020 LOCK WASHER (23).
   (9) Put the lock washer (23) in position on the sliding tube sub-assembly (24). Make sure that the lock washer (23) engages correctly in the bottom of the sliding tube sub-assembly (24).
   (10) Install the jacking dome (22).
   (11) TORQUE the jacking dome (22) with the
460006404 ADAPTER, TORQUE to between 8.9 and 8.0 m.daN (65.63 and 59.00 lbf.ft ) T.
   (12) Safety the lock washer (23) against one flat of the jacking dome (22).
   (13) Apply the Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Interfay Landing Gear (Material No.
06AAC5) around the joints between the jacking dome (22), the lock washer (23) and the sliding tube sub-assembly (24).
   (14) Install the sliding tube sub-assembly (24) in the 460006212 TROLLEY-BUILD.
   (15) Install the new sealing ring (10), the new joint seal (11) and the new seals (8) and (9).
   (16) Install the new retainers (6) and the new packings (7).
   (17) Install the new wiper ring (13). Make sure that the wiper ring (13) is correctly installed. The open U section points out.
   (18) Install the new seals (1) and (2).
   (19) Use the 460003180-74 KEEP RING to make the seal (2) go back to its initial dimensions.
   (20) Use the TOOL - SMOOTH EDGED to carefully install each part of the seal (2) in the correct position.
   (21) Use the 460006405 SLEEVE, ASSEMBLY to carefully install the lower bearing housing (4) on the sliding tube (5).
   (22) Put the travel stop (16) on the upper diaphragm tube-assembly (3).
   (23) Put the bearing (15) on the upper bearing housing (18). Do not seal the holes for the pins (14) and (17).
   (24) Install the upper bearing housing (18) on the sliding tube (5). Make sure that the larger hole in the upper bearing housing (18) aligns with the larger hole in the sliding tube (5).
   (25) Install the upper diaphragm tube-assembly (3) into the sliding tube (5).
   (26) Install the travel stop (16) on the sliding tube (5).
   (27) Use the 460006409 ASSEMBLY AND EXTRACTION TOOL to install the pin (14) in the larger diameter hole. Install the pins (17) in the remaining holes.
   (28) Install the bearing (15) in its groove. Make sure that the bearing (15) is on the pins (14) and (17).
   (29) If necessary, replace the shock-absorber identification label, (Ref. AMM TASK 11-00-00-400-012), CMM 321222.
Subtask 32-11-13-420-056-L ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Installation of the Sliding Tube Sub-Assembly of the MLG Shock Absorber
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (1) Install the O-ring (21) and the backing ring (22) on the tube assembly (20).
   (2) Put the tube assembly (20) in position in the sliding tube sub-assembly (25). Make sure that the holes for the charging valve (26) align correctly.
   (3) Install the new AIPC 32-11-13-02-270 BACKING RING (28) and the new AIPC 32-11-13-02-260 O-RING (29) on the lower charging-valve housing (27).
   (4) Install the lower charging-valve housing (27) together with the charging valve (26) to the tube assembly (20).
   (5) Install the screws (31) and the washers (30).
   (6) TORQUE the screws (31) to between 1.0 and 0.5 m.daN (88.50 and 44.25 lbf.in )
T.
   (7) Safety the screws (31) with the 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
   (8) Apply the Non Hardening Jointing Putty-High Temp. Area - Structure (Material No.
06LDG2) to the mating faces of the new AIPC 32-11-13-02-020 LOCK WASHER (24).
   (9) Put the lock washer (24) in position on the sliding tube sub-assembly (25). Make sure that the lock washer (24) engages the bush in the bottom of the sliding tube sub-assembly (25) correctly.
   (10) Install the jacking dome (23).
   (11) TORQUE the jacking dome (23) with the
460006404 ADAPTER, TORQUE to between 8.9 and 8.0 m.daN (65.63 and 59.00 lbf.ft ) T.
   (12) Safety the lock washer (24) against one flat of the jacking dome (23).
   (13) Apply the Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Interfay Landing Gear (Material No.
06AAC5) around the joints between the jacking dome (23), the lock washer (24) and the sliding tube sub-assembly (25).
   (14) Install the sliding tube sub-assembly (25) in the 460007240 TROLLEY-BUILD.
   (15) Install the sealing ring (14), the joint seal (15) and the seals (12) and (13).
   (16) Install the retainers (18) and the packings (19).
   (17) Install the wiper ring (17). Make sure that the wiper ring (17) is correctly installed. The open U section points out.
   (18) Install the seals (1) and (2).
   (19) Use the 460003180-74 KEEP RING to make the seal (2) go back to its initial dimensions.
   (20) Use the TOOL - SMOOTH EDGED to carefully install each part of the seal (2) in the correct position.
   (21) Lubricate the parts that follow with the Mineral Hydraulic Fluid-Damper - - (Material No.02BBB9) or the Mineral Hydraulic Fluid & Additives-Damper Shock Struts - (Material No.02CBB1) or the Mineral Hydraulic Fluid & Additives-Damper Landing Gear - (Material No.02CCC1) :
  • The pins (9)
  • The internal diameter or the inner liner of the lower bearing housing (10)
  • The external diameter of the sliding tube assembly (11)
  • The bearings (32) and (33).
   (22) Use the 460006405 SLEEVE, ASSEMBLY to carefully install the lower bearing housing (10) on the sliding tube assembly (11).
   (23) Put the locking-plates (6) on the upper bearing housing (7).
   (24) Put the upper bearing housing (7) on the upper diaphragm tube-assembly (3).
   (25) Install the upper diaphragm tube-assembly (3) into the sliding tube assembly (11).
   (26) Install the two-part stop (8) and the pins (9) on the sliding tube assembly (11).
   (27) Make sure that the pins (9) engage with the key-ways in the sliding tube assembly (11).
   (28) Install the upper bearing housing (7) on the sliding tube assembly (11).
   (29) Use the 460007279 SPANNER,PIN to TORQUE the upper bearing housing (7) to between 63 and 57 m.daN (464.60 and 420.35 lbf.ft ) T.
   (30) Fully loosen the upper bearing housing (7).
   (31) Do steps (29) and (30) two more times.
   (32) TORQUE the upper bearing housing (7) to between 60.0 and 50.0 m.daN (442.48 and 368.73 lbf.ft )
T.
   (33) Install the locking-plates (6) as follows:
F Locking-Plate Hole Locations ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
     (a) Put the locking-plates (6) in position on the two-part stop (8) with the tenons and slots engaged.
     (b) Safety the locking-plates (6) with the 126168 JIG.
     (c) Drill three holes of diameter between 4.95 mm (0.195 in.) and 5.10 mm (0.201 in.) through each locking-plate (6) in area A.
     (d) Install the new AIPC 32-11-13-02-440 TAB WASHERS (5) and the new AIPC 32-11-13-02-430 SCREWS (4).
     (e) TORQUE the screws (4) to between 0.65 and 0.55 m.daN (57.52 and 48.67 lbf.in )
T.
     (f) Safety the screws (4) with the tab washers (5).
   (34) Install the bearings (32) and (33) on the upper bearing housing (7).
   (35) If necessary, replace the shock-absorber identification label (
Ref. AMM TASK 11-00-00-400-012), CMM 321222.

B. Installation of the Sliding Tube Sub-Assembly of the MLG Shock-Absorber
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
   (1) Install the new O-ring (29) and the new retainer (30) on the tube assembly (28).
   (2) Put the tube assembly (28) in position in the sliding tube sub-assembly (37). Make sure that the holes for the lower charging-valve housing (39) align correctly.

   (4) Install the lower charging-valve housing (39) together with the charging valve (38) to the tube assembly (28).
   (5) Install the bolts (43) and the washers (42).
   (6) TORQUE the bolts (43) the to between 7.5 and 6.8 m.N (66.37 and 60.18 lbf.in ) T.
   (7) Safety the bolts (43) with the 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
   (8) Apply the Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Interfay Landing Gear (Material No.
06AAC5) to the washers (42) and the heads of the bolts (43).
   (9) Put the new AIPC 32-11-85-62-020 LOCK WASHER (36) in position on the sliding tube sub-assembly (37). Make sure that the lock washer (36) engages correctly in the bottom of the sliding tube sub-assembly (37).
   (10) Install the jacking dome (35).
   (11) TORQUE the jacking dome (35) as follows:
     (a) TORQUE the jacking dome (35) with the
460006404 ADAPTER, TORQUE to between 75.6 and 68.4 m.N (55.75 and 50.44 lbf.ft ) T.
     (b) Loosen the jacking dome (35).
     (c) Do steps (a) and (b) two more times.
     (d) TORQUE the jacking dome (35) with the
460006404 ADAPTER, TORQUE to between 89 and 80 m.N (65.63 and 59.00 lbf.ft ) T.
   (12) Safety the lock washer (36) against one flat of the jacking dome (35).
   (13) Apply the Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Interfay Landing Gear (Material No.
06AAC5) between the jacking dome (35), the lock washer (36) and the sliding tube sub-assembly (37).
   (14) Install the sliding tube sub-assembly (37) in the 460006212 TROLLEY-BUILD.
NOTE: The installation of the sliding tube sub-assembly must be done in a clean environment (off-wing).
   (15) Install the new wiper ring (25). Make sure that the wiper ring (25) is correctly installed and the open U section points out.
   (16) Install the new sealing ring (21) and the seal (20) in the inner groove of the lower bearing housing (16).
   (17) Install the new seals (18) and (19) in the inner groove of the lower bearing housing (16).
   (18) Install the new packing retainers (26) and the new O-rings (27).
   (19) Install the new O-ring (1) and the new seal (2).
   (20) Wait one hour to let the seal (2) go back to its initial dimensions before you continue.
   (21) Lubricate the parts that follow with the Mineral Hydraulic Fluid-Damper - - (Material No.02BBB9) :
  • The internal diameter of the lower bearing housing (16)
  • The external diameter of the sliding tube assembly (17).
   (22) Use the 460006405 SLEEVE, ASSEMBLY to carefully install the lower bearing housing (16) on the sliding tube assembly (17).
   (23) Put the upper bearing housing (9) on the upper diaphragm tube-assembly (3).
   (24) Install the upper diaphragm tube-assembly (3) into the sliding tube assembly (17).
   (25) Install the upper bearing housing (9) as follows:
     (a) Lubricate the threads of the upper bearing housing (9) with the Mineral Hydraulic Fluid-Damper - - (Material No.02BBB9) .
     (b) Move the upper bearing housing (9) to the top end of the upper diaphragm tube-assembly (3).
NOTE: This will make the installation of the two-part stop (10) easier.
     (c) Install the two-part stop (10) and the pins (15) in the upper bearing housing (9).
     (d) Make sure that the pins (15) in the two-part stop (10) are found in the keyways on the end of the sliding tube assembly (17).
     (e) Install the upper bearing housing (9) on the sliding tube assembly (17).
     (f) Use the 460007253 SPANNER-PIN and TORQUE the upper bearing housing (9) to between 630 and 570 m.N (464.60 and 420.35 lbf.ft ) T.
     (g) Loosen the upper bearing housing (9).
     (h) Do steps (f) and (g) one more time.
     (i) TORQUE the upper bearing housing (9) to between 600 and 500 m.N (442.48 and 368.73 lbf.ft )

   (26) Install the new locking-plates (8) CMM 321282 as follows:

     (a) Put the locking-plates (8) in position on the two-part stop (10) with the tenons and slots engaged.
     (b) Safety the locking-plates (8) with the F28183000 DRILLING FIXTURE.
     (c) Drill three holes of diameter between 4.95 mm (0.195 in.) and 5.10 mm (0.201 in.) through each locking-plate (8) in the areas A.
     (d) Lubricate the new screws (6) CMM 321282 with the Mineral Hydraulic Fluid-Damper - - (Material No.02BBB9) .
     (e) Install the new tab washers (7) CMM 321282 and the new screws (6).
     (f) TORQUE the screws (6) to between 6.5 and 5.5 m.N (57.52 and 48.67 lbf.in ) T.
     (g) Safety the screws (6) with the tab washers (7).
   (27) Install the bearings (4) and (5) on the upper bearing housing (9).
   (28) If necessary, replace the shock-absorber identification label (

   (1) Install the new O-ring (29) and the new retainer (30) on the tube assembly (28).
   (2) Put the tube assembly (28) in position in the sliding tube sub-assembly (37). Make sure that the holes for the lower charging-valve housing (39) aligns correctly.
   (3) Install the new retainers (40) and the new O-rings (41) on the lower charging valve-housing (39).
   (4) Install the lower charging-valve housing (39) together with the charging valve (38) to the tube assembly (28).
   (5) Install the bolts (43) and the washers (42).
   (6) TORQUE the bolts (43) to between 7.5 and 6.8 m.N (66.37 and 60.18 lbf.in ) T.
