Subtask 30-21-12-790-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Leak Check of the NAI Sense Tubes
CAUTION: REMOVE AND INSTALL PROTECTION COVERS AS NECESSARY TO PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE AND ADJACENT COMPONENTS.
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE AND ADJACENT COMPONENTS.
   (1) Do the leak check of the NAI sense tubes as follows:
     (a) Remove the bolts (1) and (4) and the seals (2) and (5) from the NAI duct.
     (b) Do the servicing of the NAI-duct sense-line tap (Ref. AMM TASK 30-21-49-200-807):
1 Do not install the bolts (1) and (4) back on the NAI duct at this time.
CAUTION: DO NOT: - APPLY ANTI-SEIZE COMPOUND TO THE NAI TEST PLUG - LET ANTI-SEIZE COMPOUND GET INTO THE SENSE TUBES OR CAUSE A BLOCKAGE OF THEM. DEBRIS THAT GETS INTO THE SENSE TUBES CAN CAUSE INCORRECT OPERATION OF THE ANTI-ICE SYSTEM.
     (c) Install the 636-5311 NAI SENSELINE FITTING (3) on the upper-valve sense-line tap.
     (d) TORQUE the 636-5311 NAI SENSELINE FITTING (3) to between 35 and 30 lbf.in (0.40 and 0.34 m.daN ) T.
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT:
  • YOU USE FILTERED SHOP AIR
  • THE DEBRIS DOES NOT GO INTO THE SENSE TUBES OR CAUSE A BLOCKAGE.
IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THESE INSTRUCTIONS, INCORRECT OPERATION OF THE ANTI-ICE SYSTEM CAN OCCUR.
     (e) Connect the shop air with a 15 micron absolute-filter to the
636-5311 NAI SENSELINE FITTING (3):
1 Make sure that the filter removes oil fumes, water, hydrocarbons and particles as small as 15 microns from the shop air.
     (f) Pressurize the NAI system at a rate not more than 10 psi (1 bar) for each minute with the ambient-temperature shop air. Let the NAI system become stable at 30 psi (2 bar) to 40 psi (3 bar).
NOTE: It is recommended that you pressurize the NAI system more than 30 psi (2 bar) at all times during the test.
     (g) Apply the Leak Detection Compound (Material No.PU1-0087) or an equivalent solution to the upper NAI-valve sense-tube-connections.
     (h) Examine the upper NAI-valve sense-tube-connections for leaks.
     (i) If there are leaks, do the steps that follow:
1 Release the pressure from the NAI system.
2 Tighten the connections where there is leakage (Ref. AMM TASK 30-21-12-400-801).
       3 Do steps 4.A.(1)(f) thru 4.A.(1)(i).
4 Make sure that there are no leaks.
NOTE: Leakage is permitted only for the areas shown in the illustration.
     (j) Release the pressure from the NAI system.
     (k) Disconnect the shop air.
     (l) Remove the 636-5311 NAI SENSELINE FITTING (3) from the upper-valve sense-line tap.
     (m) Install the 636-5311 NAI SENSELINE FITTING (3) on the lower-valve sense-line tap.
     (n) TORQUE the 636-5311 NAI SENSELINE FITTING (3) to between 35 and 30 lbf.in (0.40 and 0.34 m.daN ) T.
     (o) Connect the shop air with the 15 micron absolute-filter to the
636-5311 NAI SENSELINE FITTING (3):
1 Make sure that the filter removes oil fumes, water, hydrocarbons and particles as small as 15 microns from the shop air.
     (p) Pressurize the NAI system at a rate not more than 10 psi (1 bar) for each minute with the ambient-temperature shop air. Let the NAI system become stable at 30 psi (2 bar) to 40 psi (3 bar).
NOTE: It is recommended that you pressurize the NAI system more than 30 psi (2 bar) at all times during the test.
     (q) Apply the Leak Detection Compound (Material No.PU1-0087) or an equivalent solution to the lower NAI-valve sense-tube-connections.
     (r) Examine the lower NAI-valve sense-tube-connections for leaks.
     (s) If there are leaks, do the steps that follow:
1 Release the pressure from the NAI system.
2 Tighten the connections where there is leakage (Ref. AMM TASK 30-21-12-400-801).
       3 Do steps 4.A.(1)(p) thru 4.A.(1)(s).
4 Make sure that there are no leaks.
NOTE: Leakage is permitted only for the areas shown in the illustration.
     (t) Release the pressure from the NAI system.
     (u) Disconnect the shop air.
     (v) Remove the 636-5311 NAI SENSELINE FITTING (3) from the lower-valve sense-line tap.
     (w) Make sure that there is no blockage in the NAI-duct sense-line taps.
