Installation of the Anti-Ice Duct


WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE FLIGHT CONTROL SAFETY-LOCKS AND THE WARNING NOTICES ARE IN POSITION.

A. Make sure that the aircraft electrical circuits are energized

B. Safety Precautions
   (1) Make sure that the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION is installed on the flap and slat control lever.
   (2) Make sure that the WARNING NOTICE(S) are in position that follow, before you start the work on the ice protection system:
  • On the high-pressure ground-power connections to tell persons not to pressurize the pneumatic system
  • In the cockpit, to tell persons not to operate the engines or the APU control switches
  • On panel 30VU, to tell persons not to pressurize the bleed-air system
  • On panel 114VU, to tell persons not to operate the slat controls.
   (3) Make sure that the SAFETY BARRIER(S) are in position.

C. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Make sure that the slats are fully extended (Ref. AMM TASK 27-80-00-866-004).
   (2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 5M (16 FT)- ADJUSTABLE is in position.
   (3) Make sure that access panels 522AB( 622AB), 522CB( 622CB) and 522BT( 622BT) are removed (Ref. AMM TASK 57-41-37-000-004).

   (1) Make sure that the slats are fully extended (Ref. AMM TASK 27-80-00-866-004).
   (2) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 5M (16 FT)- ADJUSTABLE is in position.
   (3) Make sure that access panels 522YB(622YB), 522CB(622CB) and 522BT(622BT) are removed (Ref. AMM TASK 57-41-37-000-004).

4. Procedure
Subtask 30-11-42-420-058-A
A. Preparation for Installation
   (1) Remove the blanking caps from the applicable ducts that are open.
   (2) Use a clean Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) to clean the flanges of the ducts that are open.
   (3) Examine the ducts that are open for correct condition. Make sure that the faces of the flanges have no scores or distortion.
   (4) Make sure that the parts retained from the removed component are clean and in the correct condition.
   (5) Do an inspection of the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
   (6) Install the CAP - BLANKING on the ends of the open ducts.

B. Installation of the Anti-Ice Ducts
   (1) If you use the APU to energize the aircraft electrical circuits, stop the APU:
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE PNEUMATIC SYSTEM IS DEPRESSURIZED BEFORE YOU START WORK. PRESSURIZED AIR CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL.
   (2) Make sure that you wait for a minimum of 5 minutes until there is no pressure in the bleed-air duct system.
WARNING: DO NOT TOUCH THE UNIT UNTIL IT IS SUFFICIENTLY COOL TO PREVENT BURNS WHEN YOU DO THE MAINTENANCE TASK(S).
   (3) Make sure that the temperature of the bleed-air duct system is in the ambient condition.
   (4) Remove all the applicable blanking caps immediately before you install the ducts.
   (5) To install the duct (24):
     (a) Install the AIPC 30-11-42-06-100 SEAL (2) in the end of the duct (3).
     (b) Put the duct (24) in position in the duct (3) and correctly align it with the anti-ice valve.
     (c) Install the clamp (22).
     (d) TORQUE the clamp nut to between 0.51 and 0.39 m.daN (45.13 and 34.51 lbf.in )
T.
     (e) Put the ends of the bonding straps (23) and (27) in position on the duct (24).
     (f) Install the screw (28), the washer (26) and the nut (25).
     (g) Prepare for the electrical bonding (
Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (6) To install the duct (3):
     (a) Put the new AIPC 30-11-42-05-070 SEAL (29) in position on the inboard end of the duct (30).
     (b) Put the blast tube (8) temporarily in position in the approximate center of the duct (3).
     (c) Put the duct (3) together with the blast tube (8) in position in the duct (30).
     (d) Move the blast tube (8) outboard. Align the bolt holes of the blast tube (8) with the bolt holes on the D-nose section of Rib 9.
     (e) Put the cradle (7) in position and install the washers (6) and the bolts (5) and (11).
     (f) Push the duct (3) against the cradle (7) and install the cradle (4), the bolt (10) and the nut (12).
     (g) Put the end of the bonding strap (16) in position on the duct (3).
     (h) Install the screw (18), the washers (17) and (14) and the nut (13).
     (i) Prepare for the electrical bonding (
Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
     (j) Put the end of the bonding strap (20) in position on the duct (3).
     (k) Install the screw (21), the washer (19) and the nut (15).
     (l) Prepare for the electrical bonding (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (7) To install the duct (30):
     (a) Put the blast tube (49) in position in the approximate center of the duct (30).
     (b) Put the new AIPC 30-11-42-05-070 SEAL (31) in position in the outboard end of the duct (30).
     (c) Put the duct (30) in position in the duct (46).
     (d) Move the blast tube (49) outboard. Align the bolt holes of the blast tube (49) with the bolt holes on the D nose section of Rib 11.
     (e) Put the cradle (43) in position and install the bolts (41) and (51) and the washers (42).
     (f) Push the duct (30) against the cradle (43) and install the cradle (52), the bolt (50) and the nut (53).
     (g) To install intermediate rib:
  • Put the center rib (75) in position between the support ribs (54) and (62).
  • Install the bolts (74) and (64) and the nuts (68) and (61).
  • Put the lower bracket (59) and the support bracket (65) in position and install the bolts (60) and the nuts (63).
  • Put the top bracket (55) in position and install the bolts (57), the washers (56) and the nuts (67).
  • Put the support bracket (73) in position on the rib supports (62) and the top bracket (55).
  • Install the bolts (69), (70) and (72) and the nuts (71), (66) and (58).
     (h) Put the end of the bonding strap (34) in position on the duct (30).
     (i) Install the screw (35), the washer (33) and the nut (32).
     (j) Prepare for the electrical bonding (
Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
     (k) Put the end of the bonding strap (38) in position on the duct (30).
     (l) Install the screw (39), the washer (37) and the nut (36).
     (m) Prepare for the electrical bonding (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (8) To install the duct (46):
     (a) Put the duct (46) in position adjacent to the duct (77).
     (b) Install the clamp (47) and tighten the clamp nut to between 0.51 and 0.39 m.daN (45.13 and 34.51 lbf.in ) T.
     (c) Put the end of the bonding strap (34) in position on the duct (46).
     (d) Install the screw (44), the washer (45) and the nut (48).
     (e) Prepare for the electrical bonding (
Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (9) To install the duct (77):
     (a) Install the new AIPC 30-11-42-02-100 SEAL (81) in the end of the duct (77).
     (b) Put the duct (77) in position in the duct box (87) and correctly align it with the duct (46).
     (c) Install the clamp (47) and TORQUE the clamp nut to between 0.51 and 0.39 m.daN (45.13 and 34.51 lbf.in )

     (d) Put the ends of the bonding straps (79) and (80) in position on the duct (77).
     (e) Install the screw (78), the washer (84) and the nut (83).
     (f) Prepare for the electrical bonding (
Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
   (10) To install the duct box (87):
     (a) Put the duct box (87) in position and install the washers (86) and (88) and the bolts (85) and (89).
WARNING: USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
     (b) Safety the bolts (89) and (85) with 14QFB1Wire-Locking Dia: 0.8 mm CRES Nickel Alloy -.
   (11) Install the telescopic duct (Ref. AMM TASK 30-11-41-400-001).
   (12) Put the end of the bonding strap (92) in position on the duct box (87).
   (13) Install the screw (93), the washer (91) and the nut (90).
   (14) Prepare for the electrical bonding (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).

C. Remove the safety clip(s) and the tag(s) and close this(these) circuit breaker(s):

CAUTION: DO NOT USE ENGINE POWER WHEN YOU DO A LEAK TEST OF THE WING ANTI-ICE DUCTS. HOT AIR FROM THE ENGINE CAN CAUSE INJURY.
   (1) Do a leak test of the wing anti-ice ducts (Ref. AMM TASK 30-11-00-790-001).

E. Complete the Installation Procedure
   (1) Use Top Coat Polyurethane-- Decorative External Structure (Material No.04JMD3) and paint a red line across the nuts of the clamps (22) and (47).
   (2) Install the applicable insulation muff(s) (1), (9), (40), (76) and (82) and safety with the new Wire-- Stainless Steel Braided - (Material No.14QAD1) .

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE TRAVEL RANGES OF THE FLIGHT CONTROLS SURFACES ARE CLEAR. MOVEMENT OF FLIGHT CONTROLS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
   (1) Fully retract the slats (Ref. AMM TASK 27-80-00-866-005).

C. Removal of Equipment
   (1) Remove the safety barriers
   (2) Remove the WARNING NOTICE(S).
   (3) Remove the access platform(s).
   (4) Remove the 98D27803000000 LOCKING TOOL-FLAP SLAT LEVER,INT. POSITION from the flap and slat control lever on panel 114VU.
   (5) Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.

D. De-energize the aircraft electrical circuits
