A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate the ENG/MODE selector switch and the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).
Subtask 24-21-00-010-133-A
B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)
437AL, 438AR
     (b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 2)
447AL, 448AR
4. Procedure
Subtask 24-21-00-020-093-A
A. Removal of the IDG Oil Filter Elements
   (1) Remove the IDG oil charge and scavenge filter elements (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-000-810).
Subtask 24-21-00-210-114-A
B. Visual Inspection of the IDG Oil Filter Elements
NOTE: This procedure is the same for the two filter elements.
   (1) Use an LIGHT SOURCE - INSPECTION to do a visual inspection of the filter cavity.
   (2) If you smell fuel from the filter element or the filter cap, do the servicing of the IDG after oil chemical contamination (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-00-612-807).
   (3) If you think that the condition of the oil in the filter element or on the filter cover is not correct, do the sampling of the IDG oil for analysis (Ref. AMM TASK 12-32-24-281-001).
   (4) If the filter element, the filter cap and the filter cavity do not show signs of bright metal particles or larger, non-metallic, black colored, fiber-like pieces:
NOTE: Small metal flakes (bronze or silver color metal) or non-metal material (for examples flakes of generator insulation, black epoxy, shreds of tie wrap) are the normal result of operation. It is not necessary to remove the IDG.
  • Do a visual check of the oil-filter Differential-Pressure Indicator (DPI) (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-00-210-808):
  • Use an LIGHT SOURCE - INSPECTION and an MIRROR - INSPECTION, if necessary.
     (a) If the oil-filter DPI is not extended:
     (b) If the oil filter DPI is extended do the alternate troubleshooting procedure TSM 24-21-00-810-815 or TSM 24-21-00-810-816.
   (5) If there are bright metal particles on the filter element, and:
     (a) The filter element and/or the O-ring(s) is (are) damaged (there is a risk of particles in the external circuit):
1 Discard the damaged filter element or/and the O-rings.
2 Remove the IDG oil cooler tubes and hoses (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-49-000-803) and clean them.
3 Remove the IDG oil cooler (Ref. AMM TASK 73-11-50-000-802) and send it back to the overhaul.
4 Remove the IDG (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-000-806) and send it back to the overhaul facility.
5 Install a new IDG (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-400-806).
6 Install a new IDG oil cooler (Ref. AMM TASK 73-11-50-400-802).
7 Install the IDG oil cooler tubes and hoses (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-49-400-803) that you cleaned.
     (b) The filter element and the O-rings are not damaged, and:
  • There are bright metal particles or pieces that are the result of a breakage (other than non-magnetic flakes or slivers from normal wear), or
  • There are large quantities of bright metal particules, or non-metal, black colored, fiber-like pieces, in the filter cavity or in the oil drained from the IDG:
       1 Close the filter cap.
2 Remove the IDG (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-000-806).
3 Send the IDG and the filter element back to the overhaul facility.
4 Install a new IDG (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-400-806).
Subtask 24-21-00-420-097-A
C. Installation of the IDG Oil Filter Elements
   (1) Install the IDG oil charge and scavenge filter elements (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-400-810).
5. Close-up
Subtask 24-21-00-410-129-A
A. Close Access
   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Close the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-410-803):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)
437AL, 438AR
     (b) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 2)
