Removal of the Integrated Drive Generator (IDG) - IDG 1(2)
WARNING:
BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

WARNING:
BE CAREFUL DURING THE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION OF THE IDG. IT WEIGHS 124lb (60kg). DRY WEIGHT.

A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
(2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred more than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
(3) On the overhead panel, on ENG section of control panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is released (the ON legend is off).
(b) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).
Subtask 24-21-51-865-087-A (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
(2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred more than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
(3) On the overhead panel, on ENG section of control panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is released (the ON legend is off).
(b) Put the WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

A. Draining of the Oil from the IDG
(1) Drain the oil from the IDG system before you remove the IDG (Ref. AMM TASK 12-13-24-680-803).
Subtask 24-21-51-210-083-A (1) Drain the oil from the IDG system before you remove the IDG (Ref. AMM TASK 12-13-24-680-803).
B. Inspection of the Components
(1) Remove the IDG oil charge and scavenge filter-element (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-000-810).
(2) Do an inspection of the IDG oil charge and scavenge filter-element.
(a) If you smell fuel from the filter element or the filter cover, do the servicing of the IDG after oil chemical contamination (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-00-612-807).
(b) If there are no signs of metal particles, install the filter element that you removed (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-400-810) and go to paragraph C of this procedure.
(c) If there are bright metal particles and if the filter element or/and the packing(s) is (are) damaged (there is a risk of particles in the external circuit), do the steps that follow:
1 Discard the damaged IDG-oil scavenge filter-element or/and the packing(s).
2 Remove the IDG-oil cooler tubes and hoses (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-49-000-803) and clean them.
3 Remove the IDG oil cooler (Ref. AMM TASK 73-11-50-000-802), send it to the overhaul facility and go to paragraph C.
Subtask 24-21-51-210-082-A (1) Remove the IDG oil charge and scavenge filter-element (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-000-810).
(2) Do an inspection of the IDG oil charge and scavenge filter-element.
(a) If you smell fuel from the filter element or the filter cover, do the servicing of the IDG after oil chemical contamination (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-00-612-807).
(b) If there are no signs of metal particles, install the filter element that you removed (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-400-810) and go to paragraph C of this procedure.
(c) If there are bright metal particles and if the filter element or/and the packing(s) is (are) damaged (there is a risk of particles in the external circuit), do the steps that follow:
1 Discard the damaged IDG-oil scavenge filter-element or/and the packing(s).
2 Remove the IDG-oil cooler tubes and hoses (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-49-000-803) and clean them.
3 Remove the IDG oil cooler (Ref. AMM TASK 73-11-50-000-802), send it to the overhaul facility and go to paragraph C.
NOTE: Before you install a new IDG (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-49-400-803), you install a new IDG oil cooler (Ref. AMM TASK 73-11-50-400-802) and the clean IDG oil cooler tubes and hoses (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-49-000-803).
(d) If there are bright metal particles and if the IDG-oil scavenge filter-element and the packings are not damaged (there is no risk of particles in the external circuit), do the step that follows: - Install the filter element that you removed (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-400-810) and go to paragraph C.
NOTE: If you install the same IDG, install a new IDG-oil scavenge filter-element (Ref. AMM TASK 24-21-51-400-810).
C. Removal of the IDG
(1) Disconnection of the electrical harnesses from the IDG (1)
(a) Disconnection of electrical harness connector 1 (2)
1 Disconnect electrical harness connector 1 (2) from the IDG (1).
2 Remove the bolt (3) that attaches the clamp (4) to the bracket (5).
3 Remove the clamp (4) and the electrical harness from the bracket (5).
(b) Disconnection of electrical harness connector 2 (6)
1 Disconnect electrical harness connector 2 (6) from the IDG (1).
2 Remove the bolt (7) that attaches the clamp (8) to the bracket (5).
3 Remove the clamp (8) and the electrical harness from the bracket (5).
(c) Disconnect electrical harness connector 3 (9) from the IDG (1).
(d) Put a CAP - BLANKING on the connectors of the IDG (1) and on electrical harness connectors 1 (2), 2 (6) and 3 (9).
(e) Safety electrical harness connectors 1 (2), 2 (6) and 3 (9) with TIE WRAP(S) away from the IDG (1).
(2) Removal of the phase cables (13) from the IDG (1)
(a) Remove the two screws (10) and the two washers that attach the cover (11) to the terminal block (12).
(b) Remove the cover (11) from the terminal block (12).
(c) Remove the four captive washer nuts (14) that attach the four phase cables (13) to the terminal block (12).
(d) Disconnect the four phase cables (13) from the terminal block (12).
(e) Remove the two bolts (15) that attach the terminal block (16) to the bracket (5).
(f) Disconnect the four phase cables (13) from the terminal block (16).
(g) Safety the four phase cables (13) with TIE WRAP(S) away from the IDG (1).
(3) Installation of the cover (11)
(a) Install the captive washer nuts (14) on the terminal studs of the terminal block (12).
(b) Tighten the captive washer nuts (14) with your hand only.
(c) Install the cover (11) with the two screws (10) and the two washers.
(d) Tighten the screws (10) with your hand only.
(4) Removal of the oil-cooling supply (in) line (17) from the IDG (1)
(a) Hold the coupling (18) and loosen the coupling nut (19) of the oil-cooling supply (in) line (17).
(b) Remove the oil-cooling supply (in) line (17) from the coupling (18).
(c) Remove the coupling (18) from the IDG (1).
(d) Remove and discard the preformed packing (35) from the coupling (18).
(5) Removal of the oil-cooling drain (out) line (20) from the IDG (1)
(a) Hold the coupling (21) and loosen the coupling nut (22) of the oil-cooling drain (out) line (20).
(b) Remove the oil-cooling drain (out) line (20) from the coupling (21).
(c) Remove the coupling (21) from the IDG (1).
(d) Remove and discard the preformed packing (36) from the coupling (21).
(6) Removal of the pressure fill half-coupling (23) from the IDG (1)
(a) Remove the blanking cap (24) from the pressure fill half-coupling (23).
(b) Remove the pressure fill half-coupling (23) from the IDG (1).
(c) Remove and discard the packing (25) from the groove of the pressure fill half-coupling (23).
(7) Removal of the overflow drain half-coupling (26) from the IDG (1)
(a) Remove the blanking cap (27) from the overflow drain half-coupling (26).
(b) Remove the overflow drain half-coupling (26) from the IDG (1).
(c) Remove and discard the packing (28) from the groove of the overflow drain half-coupling (26).
(8) Install a COVER - PROTECTION or a CAP - PROTECTION on each open port, tube and hose and on each disconnected connector.
(9) Removal of the IDG (1)
(a) Install the 98D71203015000 IDG R/I CRADLE (CFM) on the 98D71203022000 ADAPTER-TROLLEY R/I IDG (PW AND CFM).
(b) Attach the IDG (1) to the 98D71203015000 IDG R/I CRADLE (CFM) as follows:
2 Adjust the 98D71203015000 IDG R/I CRADLE (CFM) to support the weight of the IDG (1). Refer to the GSE manufacturer's instructions.
(c) Removal of the lockwire
(10) Loosen the QAD tension bolt (30) until the alignment marks on the QAD adapter ring and the housing of the IDG (1) align.
(a) If the QAD tension bolt (30) does not turn the QAD adapter/ring alignment mark to the aligned/open position:
(c) Lower the 98D71203022000 ADAPTER-TROLLEY R/I IDG (PW AND CFM). Refer to the GSE manufacturer's instructions.
(d) Remove the straps and remove the IDG (1) from the 98D71203015000 IDG R/I CRADLE (CFM). Refer to the GSE manufacturer's instructions.
(e) Remove and discard the packing (32) from the groove of the IDG shaft (31).
(f) Remove and discard the packing (33) from the groove of the IDG (1).
(1) Disconnection of the electrical harnesses from the IDG (1)
(a) Disconnection of electrical harness connector 1 (2)
1 Disconnect electrical harness connector 1 (2) from the IDG (1).
2 Remove the bolt (3) that attaches the clamp (4) to the bracket (5).
3 Remove the clamp (4) and the electrical harness from the bracket (5).
(b) Disconnection of electrical harness connector 2 (6)
1 Disconnect electrical harness connector 2 (6) from the IDG (1).
2 Remove the bolt (7) that attaches the clamp (8) to the bracket (5).
3 Remove the clamp (8) and the electrical harness from the bracket (5).
(c) Disconnect electrical harness connector 3 (9) from the IDG (1).
(d) Put a CAP - BLANKING on the connectors of the IDG (1) and on electrical harness connectors 1 (2), 2 (6) and 3 (9).
(e) Safety electrical harness connectors 1 (2), 2 (6) and 3 (9) with TIE WRAP(S) away from the IDG (1).
(2) Removal of the phase cables (13) from the IDG (1)
(a) Remove the two screws (10) and the two washers that attach the cover (11) to the terminal block (12).
(b) Remove the cover (11) from the terminal block (12).
(c) Remove the four captive washer nuts (14) that attach the four phase cables (13) to the terminal block (12).
(d) Disconnect the four phase cables (13) from the terminal block (12).
(e) Remove the two bolts (15) that attach the terminal block (16) to the bracket (5).
(f) Disconnect the four phase cables (13) from the terminal block (16).
(g) Safety the four phase cables (13) with TIE WRAP(S) away from the IDG (1).
(3) Installation of the cover (11)
(a) Install the captive washer nuts (14) on the terminal studs of the terminal block (12).
(b) Tighten the captive washer nuts (14) with your hand only.
(c) Install the cover (11) with the two screws (10) and the two washers.
(d) Tighten the screws (10) with your hand only.
(4) Removal of the oil-cooling supply (in) line (17) from the IDG (1)
(a) Hold the coupling (18) and loosen the coupling nut (19) of the oil-cooling supply (in) line (17).
(b) Remove the oil-cooling supply (in) line (17) from the coupling (18).
(c) Remove the coupling (18) from the IDG (1).
(d) Remove and discard the preformed packing (35) from the coupling (18).
(5) Removal of the oil-cooling drain (out) line (20) from the IDG (1)
(a) Hold the coupling (21) and loosen the coupling nut (22) of the oil-cooling drain (out) line (20).
(b) Remove the oil-cooling drain (out) line (20) from the coupling (21).
(c) Remove the coupling (21) from the IDG (1).
(d) Remove and discard the preformed packing (36) from the coupling (21).
(6) Removal of the pressure fill half-coupling (23) from the IDG (1)
(a) Remove the blanking cap (24) from the pressure fill half-coupling (23).
(b) Remove the pressure fill half-coupling (23) from the IDG (1).
(c) Remove and discard the packing (25) from the groove of the pressure fill half-coupling (23).
(7) Removal of the overflow drain half-coupling (26) from the IDG (1)
(a) Remove the blanking cap (27) from the overflow drain half-coupling (26).
(b) Remove the overflow drain half-coupling (26) from the IDG (1).
(c) Remove and discard the packing (28) from the groove of the overflow drain half-coupling (26).
(8) Install a COVER - PROTECTION or a CAP - PROTECTION on each open port, tube and hose and on each disconnected connector.
(9) Removal of the IDG (1)
(a) Install the 98D71203015000 IDG R/I CRADLE (CFM) on the 98D71203022000 ADAPTER-TROLLEY R/I IDG (PW AND CFM).
(b) Attach the IDG (1) to the 98D71203015000 IDG R/I CRADLE (CFM) as follows:
CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THAT YOU APPLY ONLY SUFFICIENT PRESSURE WITH THE JACK TO HOLD THE WEIGHT OF THE IDG. TOO MUCH PRESSURE ON THE IDG OR FAILURE TO HOLD THE IDG CORRECTLY CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE INPUT SHAFT SEAL.
1 Attach the IDG (1) to the 98D71203015000 IDG R/I CRADLE (CFM) with the detail straps. Refer to the Ground Support Equipment (GSE) manufacturer's instructions. 2 Adjust the 98D71203015000 IDG R/I CRADLE (CFM) to support the weight of the IDG (1). Refer to the GSE manufacturer's instructions.
(c) Removal of the lockwire
WARNING:
USE PROTECTIVE GOGGLES AND GLOVES WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL LOCKWIRE. EACH TIME YOU CUT LOCKWIRE, REMOVE AND DISCARD IT IMMEDIATELY. LOOSE LOCKWIRE CAN CUT YOU OR MAKE YOU BLIND, AND/OR CAN CAUSE DAMAGE.
1 Cut and remove the lockwire from the Quick-Attach-Detach (QAD) tension bolt (30). (10) Loosen the QAD tension bolt (30) until the alignment marks on the QAD adapter ring and the housing of the IDG (1) align.
(a) If the QAD tension bolt (30) does not turn the QAD adapter/ring alignment mark to the aligned/open position:
- Lightly tap the QAD adapter/ring alignment mark with a MALLET - SOFT FACE or a DRIFT - BRASS and loosen the QAD tension bolt (30).
NOTE: The QAD kit is in the open position and the clamping lugs are disengaged when the alignment marks are aligned.
(b) Carefully pull the IDG (1) rearward from the Accessory Gearbox (AGB) (34) and remove the IDG (1). (c) Lower the 98D71203022000 ADAPTER-TROLLEY R/I IDG (PW AND CFM). Refer to the GSE manufacturer's instructions.
(d) Remove the straps and remove the IDG (1) from the 98D71203015000 IDG R/I CRADLE (CFM). Refer to the GSE manufacturer's instructions.
(e) Remove and discard the packing (32) from the groove of the IDG shaft (31).
(f) Remove and discard the packing (33) from the groove of the IDG (1).
