C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Make sure that you did the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).

D. Get Access
   (1) Make sure that the thrust reverser cowl-doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-00-010-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

4. Procedure
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
CAUTION: USE A SECOND WRENCH TO HOLD THE MATING PARTS WHEN YOU LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE TUBE OR HOSE NUTS. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS CAUTION, YOU CAN TWIST OR CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE TUBES OR HOSES.

A. Installation of the Last-Chance Oil Strainer
   (1) Removal of the protection cover:
CAUTION: REMOVE THE PROTECTION COVERS FROM THE OPENINGS AS NECESSARY TO PREVENT ENGINE DAMAGE.
     (a) Make sure that you remove all the necessary COVER - PROTECTION to prevent damage to the engine.

B. Install the No. 3 bearing-compartment gearbox bevel-gear last-chance oil-strainer (3) and the tube (LP30) (2) as follows:
   (1) Install the strainer (3) to the tube (LP111).
   (2) Install the metering plug (1) to the tube (LP30) (2).
   (3) Connect the tube (LP30) (2) B-nut to the oil manifold fingertight.
   (4) Connect the tube (LP30) (2) to the tube (LP111) B-nut.
   (5) TORQUE the tube (LP111) B-nut to between 375 and 340 lbf.in (4.24 and 3.84 m.daN ) T.
   (6) TORQUE the tube (LP30) (2) B-nut to between 375 and 340 lbf.in (4.24 and 3.84 m.daN )

Subtask 79-21-18-420-055-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
C. Install the No. 5 and 6 bearing-compartment last-chance oil-strainer (19) and the tube (LP46) (15) as follows:
   (1) Apply to Antigalling Compound (Material No.P06-054) the threads of the five bolts (14).
   (2) Install the strainer (19) to the tube (LP46) (15).
   (3) Connect the tube (LP46) (15) B-nut to the tube (LP45) fingertight.
   (4) Connect the tube (LP46) (15) to the tube (LP131) B-nut fingertight.
   (5) Install the tube (LP46) (15) to the brackets with the five clamps (13) and bolts (14) finger-tight.
   (6) TORQUE the tube (LP46) (15) B-nut to between 225 and 200 lbf.in (2.54 and 2.26 m.daN ) T.
   (7) TORQUE the tube (LP131) B-nut to between 225 and 200 lbf.in (2.54 and 2.26 m.daN )
T.
   (8) TORQUE the five bolts (14) to between 35 and 30 lbf.in (0.40 and 0.34 m.daN )
T.
   (9) Install the heat shields (17) and (18) to the tube (LP46) (15) with the two hoses clamps (16).
   (10) TORQUE the two hose clamps (16) to between 18 and 15 lbf.in (0.20 and 0.17 m.daN )

D. Install the No. 4 bearing compartment last chance oil strainer (36) and the tube (LP41) (35) as follows:

PRE SB C−79−00−0019A (Config−1 Initial Design Configuration)

   (1) Apply Antigalling Compound (Material No.P06-054) to the threads of the two bolts (32) and three bolts (33).
NOTE: For new or refurbished bolts or nuts with baked on lubricant, do not do the wet application.
   (2) Install the bracket (31) to the bracket with the two bolts (32).
   (3) TORQUE the two bolts (32) to between 100 and 90 lbf.in (1.13 and 1.02 m.daN ) T.
   (4) Install the strainer (36) to the tube (LP121).
   (5) Connect the tube (LP121) B-nut to the tube (LP41) (35) fingertight.
   (6) Install the metering plug (38) to the tube (LP41) (35).
   (7) Connect the tube (LP41) (35) B-nut to the tube (LP45) fingertight.
   (8) Install the tube (LP41) (35) to the two brackets with the two clamps (34) and bolts (33) fingertight.
   (9) Use a second wrench as necessary and TORQUE the tube (LP121) B-nut to between 575 and 475 lbf.in (6.50 and 5.37 m.daN )
T.
   (10) Use a second wrench as necessary and TORQUE the tube (LP41) (35) B-nut to between 375 and 340 lbf.in (4.24 and 3.84 m.daN )

   (11) Install the heat shield (29) to the tube (LP41) (35) and the bracket (31) with the clamp (30) and the bolt (33).
   (12) TORQUE the three bolts (33) to between 44 and 38 lbf.in (0.50 and 0.43 m.daN )

E. Install the No. 4 bearing compartment last chance oil strainer (36) and the tube (LP41) (35) as follows:

POST SB C-79-00-0019A (Config-2 Improved Sealing Configuration)

   (1) Apply Antigalling Compound (Material No.P06-054) to the threads of the two bolts (32) and three bolts (33).
NOTE: For new or refurbished bolts or nuts with baked on lubricant, do not do the wet application.
   (2) Install the bracket (31) to the bracket with the two bolts (32).
   (3) TORQUE the two bolts (32) to between 100 and 90 lbf.in (1.13 and 1.02 m.daN ) T.
   (4) Apply P03-001lubricant, aircraft turbine engine to a new
EIPC 79-21-49-07-142 GASKET (37).
   (5) Install the gasket (37) to the tube (LP41) (35).
   (6) Install the strainer (36) to the tube (LP121).
   (7) Connect the tube (LP121) B-nut to the tube (LP41) (35) fingertight.
   (8) Install the metering plug (38) to the tube (LP41) (35).
   (9) Connect the tube (LP41) (35) B-nut to the tube (LP45) fingertight.
   (10) Install the tube (LP41) (35) to the two brackets with the two clamps (34) and bolts (33) fingertight.
   (11) Use a second wrench and TORQUE the tube (LP121) B-nut to between 575 and 475 lbf.in (6.50 and 5.37 m.daN )

   (12) Use a second wrench and TORQUE the tube (LP41) (35) B-nut to between 375 and 340 lbf.in (4.24 and 3.84 m.daN )

   (13) Install the heat shield (29) to the tube (LP41) (35) and the bracket (31) with the clamp (30) and the bolt (33).

F. Install the gearbox last-chance oil-strainer (47) as follows:

   (1) Install the strainer (47) on the Oil Control Module (OCM).
   (2) Apply P03-001lubricant, aircraft turbine engine to a new EIPC 79-21-18-01-070 PACKING (48).
   (3) Install the new packing (48) on the plate (46).
   (4) Apply Antigalling Compound (Material No.
P06-054) to the threads of two bolts (49).
NOTE: For new or refurbished nuts or bolts with baked-on lubrication, do not do the wet application.
   (5) Install the plate (46) on the OCM with the two bolts (49).
   (6) TORQUE the two bolts (49) to between 90 and 80 lbf.in (1.02 and 0.90 m.daN ) T.

G. Install the No. 3 bearing-compartment bevel-gear last-chance oil-strainer (59) and tube (LP32) (60) as follows:
   (1) Install the strainer (59) to the tube (LP112).
   (2) Install the metering plug (61) to tube (LP32) (60).
   (3) Connect the tube (LP32) (60) B-nut to the oil manifold finger-tight.
   (4) Connect the tube (LP112) B-nut to the tube (LP32) (60).
   (5) TORQUE the tube (LP112) B-nut to between 375 and 340 lbf.in (4.24 and 3.84 m.daN ) T.
   (6) TORQUE the tube (LP32) (60) B-nut to between 225 and 200 lbf.in (2.54 and 2.26 m.daN )

H. Install the No. 1 and 1.5 bearing-compartment last-chance oil-strainer (74) and the tee assembly (LP60) (73) as follows:
   (1) Apply the P06-054compound, paste, anti-seize to the threads of the six bolts (75).
     (a) For the new or the refurbished bolts or the nuts with the baked-on lubricant, do not do the wet application.
   (2) Apply the P03-001lubricant, aircraft turbine engine (synthetic base) to a new EIPC 79-21-49-02-100 PACKING (72).
   (3) Install the packing (72) to the tube (LP63).
   (4) Install the strainer (74) to the tee assembly (LP60) (73).
   (5) If necessary, apply the P05-395beeswax (was: P06-015) or the paraffin wax blend (Material No.
P05-396) to the seal (71).
   (6) Install the seal (71) and the tee assembly (LP60) (73) to the oil manifold and the tube (LP61) with the six bolts (75) finger-tight.
   (7) Connect the tee assembly (LP60) (73) B-nut to the tube (LP63).
   (8) TORQUE the six bolts (75) to between 90 and 80 lbf.in (1.02 and 0.90 m.daN ) T.
   (9) TORQUE the tee assembly (LP60) (73) B-nut to between 525 and 475 lbf.in (5.93 and 5.37 m.daN )

POST SB C-72-00-0077A
   (10) Install the strainer to the lubrication and the scavenge oil pump, if necessary (
Ref. AMM TASK 79-21-01-400-801).

   (11) Install the fan exit liner segments (Ref. AMM TASK 72-21-08-400-801).
   (12) Fill the engine with oil (Ref. AMM TASK 79-00-00-610-801).
   (13) Examine the assembly for the foreign objects, damage and correct assembly.

   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
