   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-802):
     (a) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENG 1)

   (2) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 2M (6 FT) - ADJUSTABLE in position.

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser for Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).

D. Get Access
   (1) Remove the hinge access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-06-000-801).
4. Procedure
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.

A. GVI of the Thrust Reverser Hinges and Surrounding Structure.
   (1) Do not discard a part until you are sure there are no repairs available. If you reject a part and no repair is available, contact United Technologies Aerospace Systems (UTAS) for disposition.
   (2) Examine the hinge bolts, washers and nuts on the thrust reverser hinges on the left and right thrust reverser halves.
     (a) Look for cracks, scratches, gouges, dents and other damage.
     (b) If you find damage, replace the part (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-01-000-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-01-400-802), (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-01-000-803) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-01-400-803), (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-02-000-802) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-02-400-802), (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-02-000-803) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-02-400-803).
   (3) Examine the floating hinges and the bearings on the floating hinges at the R1 and R2 hinge positions.
     (a) Look for cracks, scratches, gouges, dents and other damage.
     (b) If you find damage, replace the part (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-05-000-801) and (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-05-400-801) or contact UTAS for disposition.
   (4) Examine the thrust reverser hinges, bushings on the thrust reverser hinges at the R3 and R4 positions and 5.9 in. (149.86 mm) of the adjacent structure from the edges of all hinges.
     (a) Look for cracks, scratches, gouges, dents and other damage.
     (b) If you find damage, refer to the Structural Repair Manual for allowable damage limits and repair procedures or contact UTAS for disposition.

   (1) Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tools and other items.
   (2) Install the hinge access panels (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-06-400-801).

B. Do the reactivation of the thrust reverser system after maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-440-805).
