Draining of the Thrust Reverser Hydraulic Tubes


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.

1. Reason for the Job
This procedure gives the instructions to drain the hydraulic fluid before maintenance on the Thrust Reverser Actuation System (TRAS).
Do this procedure only when specified by another maintenance task.
NOTE: The right hand lower actuator is also known as the synchronized manual locking actuator (3001KM2). The left hand lower actuator is also known as the synchronized non-locking actuator (3001KM3). The two upper actuators are also known as the synchronized locking feedback actuators (3001KM1) and (3001KM4).

3. Job Set-up

A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ENG/MODE selector switch is in the NORM position.
     (b) Make sure that the ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch was in the OFF position not less than five minutes before you do this procedure.
     (c) Put WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to operate:
  • The ENG/MODE selector switch
  • The ENG/MASTER 1(2) control switch.
   (2) On the ENG section of maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).

   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-803):

C. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser System for Nacelle Maintenance
WARNING: YOU MUST DEACTIVATE THE THRUST REVERSER BEFORE YOU DO WORK ON OR AROUND IT. IF YOU DO NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE AN INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE.
   (1) Do the deactivation of the thrust reverser system for nacelle maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-807).

D. Get Access
   (1) Manually deploy the translating cowl (Ref. AMM TASK 78-32-50-010-801).

E. Depressurization of the Hydraulic System
   (1) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to pressurize the applicable system.
     (a) On the HYD/FUEL panel 40VU of the overhead panel
     (b) On the ground service panel of the applicable hydraulic system.
   (2) FOR [4020KM1] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 1)
     (a) Depressurize the Green hydraulic system (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-001).
     (b) Depressurize the reservoir of the Green hydraulic system (Ref. AMM TASK 29-14-00-614-001).
   (3) FOR [4020KM2] (POWER PLANT-DEMOUNTABLE, ENGINE 2)
     (a) Depressurize the Yellow hydraulic system (Ref. AMM TASK 29-10-00-864-002).
     (b) Depressurize the reservoir of the Yellow hydraulic system (Ref. AMM TASK 29-14-00-614-001).
4. Procedure
Subtask 78-31-49-680-071-A
A. Draining of the Thrust Reverser Mounted Hydraulic Tubes
WARNING: DO NOT GET HYDRAULIC FLUID ON YOUR SKIN, IN YOUR EYES OR IN YOUR MOUTH. HYDRAULIC FLUID IS POISONOUS AND CAN GO THROUGH YOUR SKIN AND INTO YOUR BODY. FLUSH HYDRAULIC FLUID FROM YOUR EYES, MOUTH OR SKIN WITH WATER. GET MEDICAL AID IF YOU GET HYDRAULIC FLUID IN YOUR EYES OR MOUTH.
CAUTION: DO NOT LET HYDRAULIC FLUID FALL ON THE ENGINE. UNWANTED HYDRAULIC FLUID MUST BE REMOVED IMMEDIATELY WITH A CLEAN LINT FREE CLOTH. THE FLUID CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE SURFACE PROTECTION AND TO SOME PARTS.
   (1) Disconnect the Thrust Reverser Actuation System (TRAS) return line (3) from the check valve port (5) in the pylon floor as follows:
     (a) Remove the two bolts (2) and harness bracket (1) from the support bracket (6).
     (b) Move the harness bracket (1).
     (c) Put a MAT - PROTECTIVE in position below the TRAS return line (3).
     (d) Disconnect the coupling nut (4) from the check valve port (5).
   (2) Drain the left hand hydraulic tubes from the left lower actuator (7) as follows:
     (a) Put the CONTAINER 10 L(2 1/2 USGAL) in position below the left lower actuator (7).
     (b) Remove the Manual Drive Unit (MDU) (8) from the left lower actuator (7) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-45-000-801).
     (c) Drain the left hand hydraulic tubes into the CONTAINER 10 L(2 1/2 USGAL).
     (d) Clean the left lower actuator (7) and the MDU (8) with LINT-FREE COTTON CLOTH (Material No.CPNCL02069) .
     (e) Remove the CONTAINER 10 L(2 1/2 USGAL).
     (f) Install the MDU (8) on the left lower actuator (7) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-45-400-801).
   (3) Drain the left hand hydraulic tubes from the stow fitting (9) on the left lower actuator (7) as follows:
     (a) Remove the bolts (16) that attach the two lower P-clamps (15) to the thrust reverser.
     (b) Put the CONTAINER 10 L(2 1/2 USGAL) in position below the left lower actuator (7).
     (c) Disconnect the hydraulic tube coupling nut (coupling nut) (10) from the stow fitting (9).
     (d) Drain the left hand hydraulic tubes into the CONTAINER 10 L(2 1/2 USGAL).
     (e) Clean the coupling nut (10) and the lower actuator (7) with LINT-FREE COTTON CLOTH (Material No.CPNCL02069) .
     (f) Remove the CONTAINER 10 L(2 1/2 USGAL).
     (g) Connect the coupling nut (10) to the stow fitting (9).
     (h) TORQUE the coupling nut (10) to between 6.21 and 5.31 m.daN (45.80 and 39.16 lbf.ft ) T.
     (i) Install the bolts (16) that attach the two lower P-clamps (15) to the thrust reverser.
     (j) TORQUE the two bolts (16) to between 0.43 and 0.36 m.daN (38.05 and 31.86 lbf.in )
T.
   (4) Drain the right hand hydraulic tubes from the right lower actuator (13) as follows:
NOTE: Two WRENCH - STANDARD are necessary when you remove and install the MDU.
     (a) Put the CONTAINER 10 L(2 1/2 USGAL) in position below the right lower actuator (13).
     (b) Remove the MDU (12) from the right lower actuator (13) (
Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-45-000-801).
     (c) Drain the right hand hydraulic tubes into the CONTAINER 10 L(2 1/2 USGAL).
     (d) Clean the right lower actuator (13) and the MDU (12) with LINT-FREE COTTON CLOTH (Material No.CPNCL02069) .
     (e) Remove the CONTAINER 10 L(2 1/2 USGAL).
     (f) Install the MDU (12) in the right lower actuator (13) (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-45-400-801).
   (5) Drain the right hand hydraulic tubes from the stow fitting (14) on the right lower actuator (13) as follows:
     (a) Remove the bolts (16) that attach the two lower P-clamps (15) to the thrust reverser.
     (b) Put the CONTAINER 10 L(2 1/2 USGAL) in position below the right lower actuator (13).
     (c) Disconnect the coupling nut (11) from the stow fitting (14).
     (d) Drain the right hand hydraulic tubes into the CONTAINER 10 L(2 1/2 USGAL).
     (e) Clean the coupling nut (11) and the right lower actuator (13) with LINT-FREE COTTON CLOTH (Material No.CPNCL02069) .
     (f) Remove the CONTAINER 10 L(2 1/2 USGAL).
     (g) Connect the coupling nut (11) to the stow fitting (14).
     (h) TORQUE the coupling nut (11) to between 6.21 and 5.31 m.daN (45.80 and 39.16 lbf.ft ) T.
     (i) Install the bolts (16) that attach the two lower P-clamps (15) to the thrust reverser.
     (j) TORQUE the two bolts (16) to between 0.43 and 0.36 m.daN (38.05 and 31.86 lbf.in )
T.
   (6) Connect the TRAS return line (3) to the check valve port (5) as follows:
     (a) Connect the coupling nut (4) on the TRAS return line (3) to the check valve port (5) on the pylon floor.
     (b) TORQUE the coupling nut (4) to between 8.42 and 7.01 m.daN (62.09 and 51.70 lbf.ft )
T.
   (7) Lubricate the threads of the two bolts (2) with LUBRICATING OIL TURBINE ENGINE SYNT BASE (Material No.
CPNCL00062) .
   (8) Install the harness bracket (1) as follows:
     (a) Install the two bolts (2) that attach the harness bracket (1) to the support bracket (6).
     (b) TORQUE the two bolts (2) to between 0.43 and 0.36 m.daN (38.05 and 31.86 lbf.in ) T.

   (1) Do a thrust reverser cycling test (menu mode) (Ref. AMM TASK 73-29-00-740-804).
   (2) Do a visual inspection of the MDUs and lower actuators to make sure that there is no leakage.
