Subtask 73-21-05-420-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL A. Installation of the Permanent Magnet Alternator (PMA) Rotor
(1) Removal of protection covers
(2) Install the PMA rotor (2) on the shaft as follows:
1 Find the larger Inner Diameter (ID) of the slinger (3).
2 Install the slinger (3) to the shaft with the larger ID to face aft.
(d) Ensure that the two flats in the inner diameter of the PMA rotor are aligned with the two flats on the shaft before you torque the nut.
(e) Install the PWA211435 ADAPTER, TORQUE to the nut (1) and the main gearbox with the three captive bolts.
(f) Measure and record the nut (1) run-on torque.
(g) TORQUE the nut (1) to between 300 and 270 lbf.in (3.39 and 3.05 m.daN )
plus the run-on torque until the same torque indication holds.
(h) Remove the PWA211435 ADAPTER, TORQUE from the nut (1) and the main gearbox.
(3) Do a check for the correct installation of the PMA rotor (2).
(a) Make sure that there is no space between the PMA rotor (2) and slinger (3) with a MIRROR - INSPECTION.
(b) Make sure that a minimum of three shaft threads can be seen after the final torque of the nut (1).
(c) Check the dimension from the end of the main gearbox shaft to the front surface of the nut (1).
(e) If any of the checks above fail, examine the assembly for correct interface, remove the PMA rotor (2) and repeat Step 4.A.(2).
(4) Install the PMA stator (Ref. AMM TASK 73-21-04-400-801).
(5) Examine the assembly for unwanted objects, damage and correct assembly.
5. Close-up(1) Removal of protection covers
CAUTION:
REMOVE THE PROTECTION COVERS FROM THE OPENINGS AS NECESSARY TO PREVENT ENGINE DAMAGE.
(a) Make sure that you remove all the necessary COVER - PROTECTION to prevent damage to the engine. (2) Install the PMA rotor (2) on the shaft as follows:
CAUTION:
THERE ARE STRONG MAGNETS IN THE ROTOR. MAKE SURE YOU KEEP THE ROTOR AWAY FROM OTHER METAL OBJECTS, PARTICLES AND DUST. IF YOU DO NOT DO THIS, DAMAGE TO THE ROTOR CAN OCCUR.
CAUTION:
WHEN YOU INSTALL THE ROTOR ONTO THE SHAFT, MAKE SURE THAT THE FLATS OF THE MAIN GEARBOX SHAFT ARE ALIGNED WITH THE FLATS OF THE PMA ROTOR. MISALIGNMENT OF THE FLATS WILL CAUSE INCORRECT INSTALLATION OF THE ROTOR AND POSSIBLE ENGINE DAMAGE.
(a) Install the slinger (3) to the shaft if necessary as follows: 1 Find the larger Inner Diameter (ID) of the slinger (3).
2 Install the slinger (3) to the shaft with the larger ID to face aft.
NOTE: The larger ID of the slinger must be positioned aft over the bearing journal shaft.
(b) Align the flats of the PMA rotor (2) to the flats on the shaft. NOTE: The flats of the PMA rotor must face forward.
(c) Install the PMA rotor (2) to the shaft so that it engages the shaft completely.
NOTE: The dimension should be approximately 0.200 in. (5.080 mm).
(d) While you hold the PMA rotor (2) with one hand, check the slinger (3) for movement by using hand pressure to turn the slinger (3) clockwise or counterclockwise. The slinger (3) should not turn.
