4. Procedure
Subtask 73-21-04-420-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Installation of the Permanent Magnet Alternator (PMA) Stator
CAUTION: WIPE CLEAN ALL PARTS AND TOOLS AS NECESSARY TO REMOVE UNWANTED DEBRIS AND PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE.
CAUTION: REMOVE THE PROTECTION COVERS FROM THE OPENINGS AS NECESSARY TO PREVENT ENGINE DAMAGE.
   (1) Removal of the protection covers:
     (a) Make sure that you remove all the necessary COVER - PROTECTION to prevent damage to the engine.
     (b) Loosen the three cap screws and remove the PWA211307 COVER, PROTECTOR.
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL THE PMA STATOR. THE MAGNETS ON THE PMA WILL APPLY A MAGNETIC PULL TO THE STATOR. DAMAGE TO THE STATOR AND THE ROTOR CAN OCCUR IF YOU DO NOT HOLD THE STATOR CAREFULLY.
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL NOT TO CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE PMA EXTERNAL COATING WHEN YOU REMOVE OR INSTALL THE PMA STATOR. IF YOU DO NOT OBEY THIS CAUTION, DAMAGE TO ENGINE PARTS CAN OCCUR.
   (2) Install the PMA stator (1) on the Main Gearbox (MGB) as follows:
     (a) Apply P03-001lubricant, aircraft turbine engine to the new EIPC 73-21-04-01-080 PACKING (2).
     (b) Install the packing (2) on the PMA stator (1).
     (c) Install the face seal (3) on the PMA stator (1) with the two screws (4):
1 Visually examine the used face seal to find out if you can use it again as follows:
a Make sure there is no raised material on the metal surface which is not permitted.
b Do a check for rubber that is not bonded to the metal surface which is not permitted.
c Examine the rubber seal for separation from the metal surface.
d If there is missing or cut rubber, or if it shows signs of rubber separation or other damage:
e Make sure that the rubber material is above the metal surface.
     (d) TORQUE the two screws (4) to between 30 and 26 lbf.in (0.34 and 0.29 m.daN )
T.
     (e) Align and install the PMA stator (1) on the MGB with the three captive bolts.
     (f) Tighten the bolts:
CAUTION: WHEN YOU TORQUE THE BOLTS, USE A TOOL THAT WILL NOT TOUCH THE COATING ON THE PMA. IF THE TOOL TOUCHES THE PMA COATING, DAMAGE TO THE COATING CAN OCCUR.
       1 TORQUE the three captive bolts to between 230 and 200 lbf.in (2.60 and 2.26 m.daN )
T equally in an opposite pattern until the same torque indication holds.
   (3) Connect the wiring harness (W03) connector (P12) to the stator receptacle (J12) as follows:
CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS ARE CLEAN WHEN YOU CONNECT THEM. THE CONTAMINATION OF ELECTRICAL CONNECTORS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT.
CAUTION: USE THE CORRECT ASSEMBLY PROCEDURE AND TOOLS FOR THE HARNESS CONNECTOR INSTALLATION. IF YOU DO NOT, A DAMAGED OR LOOSE CONNECTOR CAN OCCUR. A LOOSE CONNECTOR CAN CAUSE UNSATISFACTORY ENGINE OPERATION, DECREASED LIGHTNING PROTECTION AND A POSSIBLE IN-FLIGHT SHUTDOWN.
     (a) Examine, align and engage the connector.
     (b) Push lightly inward on the connector while you tighten the coupling ring.
     (c) Use the PLIERS - JAWED, SOFT and tighten the connector against the receptacle.
     (d) Make sure that you can feel the ratchet feature.
     (e) While you tighten, push the connector in and from side to side.
     (f) Tighten the connector until the pliers slip on the connector ring.
   (4) Connect the wiring harness (W04) connector (P11) to the stator receptacle (J11) as follows:
   (5) Connect the wiring harness (W03) connector (P33) to the oil temperature sensor (J33) as follows:
     (a) Examine, align, and engage the connector.
