A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU, make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU, make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off. Make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).
   (3) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) is in position.

4. Procedure

A. Install the Fuel Pump and HMU Nipples
F Fuel Package Removal/Installation ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
NOTE: Hydromechanical Units (HMUs) that have fluorocarbon (Viton) external seals ( POST SB 73-0078) can leak fuel for a short time when they are below -34 deg.C (-29.20 deg.F) (Modification 1) or below -40 deg.C (-40.00 deg.F) (modification 2) (Ref. AMM TASK 71-00-00-790-002)
NOTE: You must install the fuel package on 856A2801 BASEPLATE-R I FUEL PUMP HMU PACKAGE (856A2801).
   (1) Remove the remaining PLUG - BLANKING, CAP - BLANKING COVER - BLANKING from the HMU.
   (2) Make sure that all nipples of the HMU and plugs are correctly tightened, if not, remove them and apply a thin layer of engine oil (Material No.CP2442) and install them again with a new O'ring into the ports of the HMU and torque as follows:
     (a) VBV open nipple (195). TORQUE to between 300 and 270 lbf.in (3.39 and 3.05 m.daN ) T.
     (b) RACCS nipple (140). TORQUE to between 150 and 135 lbf.in (1.70 and 1.53 m.daN )
T.
     (c) VBV closed nipple (180). TORQUE to between 200 and 180 lbf.in (2.26 and 2.03 m.daN )
T
     (d) PCR nipple (225). TORQUE to between 200 and 180 lbf.in (2.26 and 2.03 m.daN )
T.
     (e) HPTACC nipple (290). TORQUE to between 150 and 135 lbf.in (1.70 and 1.53 m.daN )
T.
     (f) LPTACC nipple (135). TORQUE to between 200 and 180 lbf.in (2.26 and 2.03 m.daN )
T.
     (g) SOV nipple (350). TORQUE to between 150 and 135 lbf.in (1.70 and 1.53 m.daN )

     (h) BSV nipple (210). TORQUE to between 150 and 135 lbf.in (1.70 and 1.53 m.daN )

     (l) PB plug (165). TORQUE to between 80 and 70 lbf.in (0.90 and 0.79 m.daN )
T. Safety the PB plug (165) with CP8001lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia. or CP8002lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia. (Ref. AMM TASK 70-22-00-911-001)
     (m) PS plug (155). TORQUE to between 42 and 38 lbf.in (0.47 and 0.43 m.daN ) T. Safety the PS plug (155) with CP8001lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia. or CP8002lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia. (Ref. AMM TASK 70-22-00-911-001)
   (3) Make sure that all the nipples on fuel pump are correctly tightened, if not, remove them and then install them again as follows:
     (a) Apply a thin layer of engine oil (Material No.CP2442) to new AIPC 73-11-10-01-120 O-RING (490) and AIPC 73-11-10-01-120 O-RING (500) and the threads of the nipples (495) and (505).
     (b) Install the O-rings (490) and (500) on the nipples (495) and (505). Install the nipples on the fuel filter housing. TORQUE nipples to between 160 and 150 lbf.in (1.81 and 1.70 m.daN )
T.
     (c) Apply a thin layer of engine oil (Material No.
CP2442) to the new AIPC 73-11-10-01-100 O-RING (455) and the threads of the nipple (460).
     (d) Install the
AIPC 73-11-10-01-100 O-RING (455) on the nipple (460). Install the nipple on the fuel pump. Torque nipple to between 400 and 350 lbf.in (4.52 and 3.96 m.daN ) T.
Subtask 73-11-12-420-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Installation of the Fuel Package Assembly
F Fuel Package Removal/Installation ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
   (1) Apply a thin layer of engine oil (Material No.CP2442) to a new AIPC 73-11-10-01-050 O-RING (485) and install it in the groove of the fuel pump drive shaft.

PRE CFM SB 72-0454

   (2) Lubricate the re-usable or new seal ring assembly (465) with engine oil (Material No.
CP2442) and install on fixed part of QAD ring (570).

POST CFM SB 72-0454

   (3) Install the seal ring assembly (470) as follows:
     (a) If necessary, install a new AIPC 73-11-10-01-070 PREFORMED PACKING (475) on the support (metal ring) (480).
     (b) Lubricate the seal ring assembly (470) with engine oil (Material No.
CP2442) .
     (c) Install the seal ring assembly (470) on the QAD ring (570).

END OF POST CFM SB 72-0454

   (4) Make sure that the 3 tabs of the seal are correctly locked by the lugs of the adapter flange.
   (5) Remove the cover from the handcranking drive pad (Ref. AMM TASK 72-63-00-000-004).
CAUTION: DURING INSTALLATION OF THE FUEL PACKAGE ASSEMBLY, DO NOT CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE FAN FIRE-DETECTION LOOP WHEN YOU ALIGN THE PUMP.
   (6) Move hydraulic hoist platform with fuel package and 856A2801 BASEPLATE-R I FUEL PUMP HMU PACKAGE forward AGB.
   (7) Lift the hydraulic hoist platform to align fuel pump splines with AGB splines.
     (a) Insert a 3/4-inch. drive turning handle in handcranking drive pad.
     (b) Align pump drive shaft with the drive recess in Accessory Gearbox (AGB) with the 3/4-in. drive turning handle.
CAUTION: CAREFULLY ALIGN THE PUMP WITH THE AGB TO PREVENT SPLINE DAMAGE. MAKE SURE THAT THE LOCATING DOWELS ARE CORRECTLY ALIGNED.
CAUTION: DURING INSTALLATION, KEEP THE DRIVE SHAFT PERPENDICULAR TO THE AGB MOUNTING FLANGE, MAKE SURE THAT THERE IS NO LOAD ON THE DRIVE SHAFT.
     (c) Engage the pump drive shaft into its AGB drive recess.
     (d) Apply a thin layer of graphite grease (Material No.CP2101) to Quick-Attach-Detach (QAD) bolt (560) threads. Make sure that you can see the ball-seat washer (575) is installed under the QAD bolt head (560). Install the bolt (560) with ball-seat washer (575) in bracket. Install the retaining packing (565) on the bolt (560).
   (8) Attach package as follows:
     (a) Turn the QAD ring (570) clockwise until it is correctly installed.
     (b) Torque the QAD bolt (560) to between 320 and 310 lbf.in (3.62 and 3.50 m.daN ) T.
     (c) Radially tap the exposed outer diameter of the QAD ring (570) to set the ring to its correct position.
     (d) Do the step (b) and (c) two more times.
     (e) Check the QAD ring (570) as follows.
       1 Make sure that the gap (DIM. A) between the boss of the QAD ring (570) and the flange of the QAD ring support is between 0.25 in. (6.35 mm) and 1 in. (25.40 mm).
NOTE: If necessary, use minimum tightening torque to get the minimum gap (DIM. A).
       2 If the gap (DIM. A) is out of these limits, change the QAD ring (570) and install a new. Start its installation at the last step of the precedent paragraph.
     (f) Loosen and torque the QAD bolt (560) to between 230 and 190 lbf.in (2.60 and 2.15 m.daN )
T. Safety with CP8001lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia. or CP8002lockwire 0.032 in. (0.8 mm) dia (Ref. AMM TASK 70-22-00-911-001).
   (9) Lower the 856A2801 BASEPLATE-R I FUEL PUMP HMU PACKAGE and move back to disengage hydraulic hoist platform.
   (10) Connect the fuel filter differential pressure tubes (Ref. AMM TASK 73-11-49-400-040).
   (11) Install the main oil fuel heat exchanger drain tube and the fuel pump pad drain tube (Ref. AMM TASK 71-73-49-400-040).
   (12) Install the handcranking drive pad cover (Ref. AMM TASK 72-63-00-400-004).
   (13) Connect the CLP fuel tube (450) to the fuel pump as follows:
CAUTION: USE TWO WRENCHES TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE TUBE COUPLING NUTS:
  • ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE UNION, AND
  • ONE TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT.
THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE TO THE PARTS.
     (a) Apply a thin layer of engine oil (Material No.CP2442) on the tread of nipple (555) to the fuel pump.
     (b) Connect the CLP fuel tube (450) to the nipple (555) on the fuel pump. Torque the nut to between 550 and 450 lbf.in (6.22 and 5.09 m.daN ) T.
     (c) Make sure that the clamp (525) and plastics bushing are on the CLP fuel tube (450) (from FRV).
     (d) Make sure that the clamp (325) and plastics bushing are on the CLP fuel tube (450) (from FRV).
   (14) Connect the fuel supply tube (55) to the junction port of the fuel supply tube (A/C) as follows:
     (a) Make sure that the mating faces are clean.
     (b) Examine the
AIPC 73-11-10-01-020 GASKET (5) for damage (Ref. AMM TASK 70-21-00-918-001), replace it if necessary.
     (c) Apply a thin layer of engine oil (Material No.CP2442) to the gasket (5) and install it on the junction port of the fuel supply tube (55).
     (d) Connect the fuel supply tube (55) to the junction port of the fuel supply tube (A/C).
     (e) Apply a thin layer of graphite grease (Material No.CP2101) to the threads of bolts (10) and attach the tube. TORQUE the bolts to between 90 and 81 lbf.in (1.02 and 0.92 m.daN ) T.

PRE CFM SB 72-0693 AND PRE CFM SB 79-0035

   (15) Connect the fuel inlet tube (440) to the main oil/fuel heat exchanger as follows :
     (a) Make sure that the mating faces are clean.
     (b) Examine the
AIPC 79-21-20-01-160 GASKET (530) for damage (Ref. AMM TASK 70-21-00-918-001), replace it if necessary.
     (c) Apply a thin layer of engine oil (Material No.CP2442) to the gasket (530) and install it on the port of the main exchanger.
     (d) Lubricate the threads of the bolts (545) with graphite grease (Material No.CP2101) .
     (e) Install the gasket (530) between fuel inlet tube (440) and the main oil/fuel heat exchanger. Put the bracket (535) (for fan fire detection) at its correct position over the square flange of the fuel inlet tube (440) and install washers (540) and bolts (545) to attach the fuel inlet tube (440) to the main oil/fuel heat exchanger.
     (f) Tighten the bolts (545) as follows:
NOTE: You must apply the following steps to each of the 4 bolts (545). Start by the first bolt on the top left side of the port, followed by the second bolt at the diagonal opposite location, the third bolt on the bottom left side of the port and the fourth bolt at the diagonal opposite location.
       1 TORQUE the bolts (545) to between 45 and 40 lbf.in (0.51 and 0.45 m.daN ) T
       2 Loosen the bolts (545) but do not remove them.
       3 Measure and record the locking torque of each bolt (545). This torque must be to between 15 and 2.2 lbf.in (0.17 and 0.02 m.daN )
T; if not, replace the bolt.
       4 TORQUE again the bolts (545) to between 45 and 40 lbf.in (0.51 and 0.45 m.daN )
T.
       5 Add the locking torque value of the bolts (545) recorded before.
       6 TORQUE the bolts (545) to between 60 and 42.2 lbf.in (0.68 and 0.48 m.daN )
T.

POST CFM SB 72-0693 AND POST CFM SB 79-0035

   (16) Connect the fuel inlet tube (440) to the main oil/fuel heat exchanger as follows :
     (a) Make sure that the mating faces are clean.
     (b) Examine the
AIPC 79-21-20-01-160 GASKET (530) for damage (Ref. AMM TASK 70-21-00-918-001), replace it if necessary.
     (c) Lubricate the gasket (530) with engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .
     (d) Lubricate the threads of the bolts (550) with graphite grease (Material No.CP2101) .
NOTE: Make sure that bolts (550) removed are serviceable to correctly attach the fuel inlet tube (440) on the port.
     (e) Install the gasket (530) between fuel inlet tube (440) and the main oil/fuel heat exchanger. Put the bracket (535) (for fan fire detection) at its correct position over the square flange of the fuel inlet tube (440) and bolts (550) to attach the fuel inlet tube (440) to the main oil/fuel heat exchanger.
     (f) Tighten the bolts (550) as follows:
NOTE: You must apply the following steps to each of the 4 bolts (550). Start by the first bolt on the top left side of the port, followed by the second bolt at the diagonal opposite location, the third bolt on the bottom left side of the port and the fourth bolt at the diagonal opposite location.
       1 TORQUE the bolts (550) to between 45 and 40 lbf.in (0.51 and 0.45 m.daN ) T
       2 Loosen the bolts (550) but do not remove them.
       3 Measure and record the locking torque of each bolt (550). This torque must be to between 15 and 2.2 lbf.in (0.17 and 0.02 m.daN )
T; if not, replace the bolt.
       4 TORQUE again the bolts (550) to between 45 and 40 lbf.in (0.51 and 0.45 m.daN )
T.
       5 Add the locking torque value of the bolts (550) recorded before.
       6 TORQUE the bolts (550) to between 60 and 42.2 lbf.in (0.68 and 0.48 m.daN )
T.

   (17) Attach the fan fire detection loop as follows:
     (a) Attach the fan fire detection loop with the bolt on the bracket on the main oil/fuel heat exchanger and torque bolt (
Ref. AMM TASK 26-12-15-400-041).
     (b) Attach the fan fire detection loop with the bolt on the bracket (535) on the fuel inlet tube (440) (from IDG oil cooler) and torque bolt (Ref. AMM TASK 26-12-15-400-041).
   (18) Attach the fuel pump HP tube (PSF) (40) and the CLP fuel tube (450) (from FRV) to the bracket (520) on AGB as follows:
     (a) Make sure that the plastics bushing and clamp (590) are in their correct position on the upper side of bracket (520) on AGB, this for the fuel pump HP tube (PSF) (40).
     (b) Make sure that the plastics bushing and clamp (525) are in their correct position on the lower side of bracket (520) on AGB, this for the CLP fuel tube (450) (from FRV).
     (c) Engage the bolt (580) from the lower side of bracket (520) on AGB and attach the clamps (525) and (590) (which share the same attachment) with nut (585). TORQUE nut (585) to between 55 and 50 lbf.in (0.62 and 0.57 m.daN ) T.
   (19) Attach the fuel pump HP tube (PSF) (40) to the bracket on the main oil/fuel heat exchanger as follows:
     (a) Make sure that the plastics bushing and clamp (325) are in their correct position on the bracket on main oil/fuel heat exchanger, this for the fuel pump HP tube (PSF) (40).
     (b) Engage the bolt (315) on the bracket on the main oil/fuel heat exchanger and attach the clamp (325) with nut (320). TORQUE nut (320) to between 55 and 50 lbf.in (0.62 and 0.57 m.daN )
T.
   (20) If removed or loosened, attach the fuel inlet tube (440) (from IDG oil cooler), the oil tube (45), the IDG tube (330) and the PB PSF fuel tube (595) to the bracket (520) on AGB as follows:
     (a) Make sure that the plastics bushing and clamp (435) are in their correct position on the lower side of bracket (520) on AGB, this for the fuel inlet tube (440).
     (b) Make sure that the plastics bushing and clamp (445) are in their correct position on the lower side of bracket (520) on AGB, this for the oil tube (45).
     (c) Make sure that the plastics bushing and clamp are in their correct position on the upper side of bracket (520) on AGB, this for the IDG tube (330).

     (e) Engage the bolt (510) from the lower side of bracket (520) on AGB and attach the two clamps (435), (445) (which share the same attachment) with nut (515). Torque nut (515) to between 110 and 100 lbf.in (1.24 and 1.13 m.daN )

     (f) Engage the bolt (615) from the lower side of bracket (520) on AGB and attach the two clamps (610), (605) (which share the same attachment) with nut (620). Torque nut (620) to between 110 and 100 lbf.in (1.24 and 1.13 m.daN )

   (21) Install the flex-hoses to the nipples and torque the coupling nuts and unions as follows:
CAUTION: USE TWO WRENCHES TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE TUBE COUPLING NUTS:
  • ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE UNION, AND
  • ONE TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT.

     (a) VBV open hose (200) to nipple (195). TORQUE to between 550 and 450 lbf.in (6.22 and 5.09 m.daN )

   (22) Remove the blanking covers from the open end of oil out tube and on the port of the servo fuel heater.
   (23) Install the oil out tube (35) on the port on the servo fuel heater (50) as follows:
     (a) Examine the
AIPC 73-21-10-01-020 GASKET (30) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-21-00-918-001), replace it if necessary.
     (b) Lubricate the gasket (30) with engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .
     (c) Install the gasket (30) on the port of the servo fuel heater (50).
     (d) Apply a thin layer of graphite grease (Material No.CP2101) to the threads of bolts (25).
     (e) Install the oil out tube (35) to the servo fuel heater (50) and attach with the bolts (25). TORQUE the bolts (25) to between 110 and 98 lbf.in (1.24 and 1.11 m.daN ) T.
   (24) Connect the oil in tube (15) to the oil tube (45) as follows:
     (a) Apply a thin layer of engine oil (Material No.
CP2442) to the threads of the oil tube (45).
     (b) Connect the oil in tube (15) on the union nut of the oil tube (45). TORQUE the union nut to between 1100 and 900 lbf.in (12.43 and 10.17 m.daN ) T.
   (25) If you removed the aft sump oil supply tube (430) from the AGB, install it as follows:
CAUTION: USE TWO WRENCHES TO REMOVE OR INSTALL THE TUBE COUPLING NUTS:
  • ONE WRENCH TO HOLD THE UNION, AND
  • ONE TO LOOSEN OR TIGHTEN THE COUPLING NUT.
THIS PREVENTS DAMAGE TO THE PARTS.
     (a) Apply a thin layer of engine oil (Material No.
CP2442) to the nipple of the accessory gearbox (AGB) and install the tube (430). Tighten the nut with your hand.
     (b) Apply a thin layer of graphite grease (Material No.CP2101) to the threads of bolt (420) and safety the aft sump oil supply tube (430) with the clamp (425). Tighten the bolt with your hand.
     (c) TORQUE connecting nut to between 300 and 270 lbf.in (3.39 and 3.05 m.daN ) T and the bolt to between 50 and 45 lbf.in (0.57 and 0.51 m.daN ) T.
   (26) Remove the blanking covers from the open end of the IDG tube (330).
   (27) Examine the
AIPC 73-21-10-01-010 GASKET (340) (Ref. AMM TASK 70-21-00-918-001), replace it if necessary.
   (28) Lubricate the AIPC 73-21-10-01-020 GASKET (340) with engine oil (Material No.CP2442) .
   (29) Install the IDG supply tube (330) to the IDG port on the HMU as follow:
     (a) Install the gasket (340) on the IDG port of the HMU.
     (b) Apply a thin layer of graphite grease (Material No.CP2101) to the threads of bolts (335).
     (c) Install the IDG tube (330) to the HMU and attach with the bolts (335). TORQUE the bolts (335) to between 70 and 55 lbf.in (0.79 and 0.62 m.daN ) T.
   (30) Remove the blanking covers from the electrical cable connectors.
   (31) Connect the electrical connectors, Channel A (130) and Channel B (235), to the HMU. Tighten the connectors with your hand plus one-eighth of a turn. If necessary, use PLIERS - NOSE, SOFT, LONG.
   (32) Connect the electrical connector (150) to the latching solenoid. Tighten the connectors with you hand plus one-eighth of a turn. If necessary, use PLIERS - NOSE, SOFT, LONG.
   (33) Install the assembled fuel flow transmitter, fuel supply tube, inlet bracket (105), discharge bracket (120) and fuel supply hose to the HMU as follows:
     (a) Remove the blanking plugs from the discharge port of the HMU and from the fuel supply tube.
     (b) Remove the blanking plugs from the fuel supply hose and the union (125) of the fuel injection supply tube.
     (c) Lubricate the AIPC 73-31-10-01-070 GASKET (110) with vaseline (Material No.CP5070) . Install the gasket (110) on the discharge port of the HMU.
     (d) Install the fuel supply tube with bolts (100) to the discharge port of the HMU. Tighten with your hand.
     (e) Connect the fuel pump HP tube (PSF) (40) to the union nut of the fuel in tube (20). Tighten the fuel pump HP tube (PSF) (40) with your hand.

     (f) Connect the fuel supply hose to the union (125) of the fuel injection supply tube. Tighten the fuel supply hose with your hand.
