A. Safety Precautions
(1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:
(a) Make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to start engine 1(2).
(2) On overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
(a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR 1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
(b) Make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) in position to tell persons not to energize FADEC 1(2).
(3) Make sure that the ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE is in position:
(a) For the left pylon, in zones 410 and 470
(b) For the right pylon, in zones 420 and 480.
(4) Make sure that the fire extinguisher bottles are removed (Ref. AMM TASK 26-21-41-000-001).
Subtask 54-51-41-040-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) On the center pedestal, on ENG panel 115VU:

B. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser
Subtask 54-51-41-914-050-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL WARNING:
MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER IS LOCKED. IF NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE REVERSER.
(1) Make sure that the thrust reverser is unserviceable for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-081-041). C. Preparation of the Replacement Component
(1) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
(a) Clean the external surfaces of the spigot ball joint, the retaining plate (3) and the bolts (1) with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
(2) Do a visual inspection of the spigot ball joint and the spigot.
(3) Apply Retaining adhesive-Cylindrical fitting Medium strength - (Material No.05ABE1) in the housing of the spigot ball joint.
4. Procedure(1) Clean the component interfaces and the adjacent area.
(a) Clean the external surfaces of the spigot ball joint, the retaining plate (3) and the bolts (1) with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
(2) Do a visual inspection of the spigot ball joint and the spigot.
(3) Apply Retaining adhesive-Cylindrical fitting Medium strength - (Material No.05ABE1) in the housing of the spigot ball joint.

(1) Get the 98D54403002000 REM INST TOOL - SPIGOT BALL JOINT (98D54403002102).
(3) Install the threaded rods (43) with the nuts (42) below the upper panel.
(4) Install the nuts (41) and tighten them to hold the threaded rods (43) in position.
(5) Install the plate (45) on the threaded rods (43) and the nuts (44).
(6) Tighten the nuts (44) continuously to install the spigot ball joint (32) and to release the half segments (31) and (36).
(7) Remove the nuts (44) and the plate (45).
(8) Remove the nuts (41) and the threaded rods (43) bottom of the rear spar with the head downward.
(9) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Low Adhesion Brushable - (Material No.06AEA1) on the surface which touches the retaining plate (3) and the inner face of the upper spar.
(10) Install the retaining plate (3) on the lower spigot ball-joint (32) fitting.
(11) Install the eight bolts (1) with Polysulfide Sealant-Corrosion inhibitive Sprayable - (Material No.06AJD1) or Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) and the nuts (2).

Spigot Ball Joint - Protection against Corrosion ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
Spigot Ball Joint - Protection against Corrosion ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL NOTE: You can use the 98D54403002000 REM INST TOOL - SPIGOT BALL JOINT to install the spigot ball joint if the pylon is removed from the aircraft.
(2) Put the spigot ball joint (32) in its housing. (3) Install the threaded rods (43) with the nuts (42) below the upper panel.
(4) Install the nuts (41) and tighten them to hold the threaded rods (43) in position.
(5) Install the plate (45) on the threaded rods (43) and the nuts (44).
(6) Tighten the nuts (44) continuously to install the spigot ball joint (32) and to release the half segments (31) and (36).
(7) Remove the nuts (44) and the plate (45).
(8) Remove the nuts (41) and the threaded rods (43) bottom of the rear spar with the head downward.
(9) Apply Polysulfide Sealant-Low Adhesion Brushable - (Material No.06AEA1) on the surface which touches the retaining plate (3) and the inner face of the upper spar.
(10) Install the retaining plate (3) on the lower spigot ball-joint (32) fitting.
(11) Install the eight bolts (1) with Polysulfide Sealant-Corrosion inhibitive Sprayable - (Material No.06AJD1) or Polysulfide Sealant-General Purpose Fillet - (Material No.06AAB1) and the nuts (2).
NOTE: If you sawed the heads of the two bolts (1) during removal, install new AIPC 54-51-17-02-020 BOLTS (1) with the heads in the down position.
(12) Remove the unwanted sealant with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) . B. Connection of the Bonding Leads of the Spigot at RIB5

(1) Do the electrical bonding at the applicable location on the bonding angles (1) that are installed on the pylon box at RIB5 (Ref. AMM TASK 20-28-00-912-802).
(2) Put the bonding leads (2) in position on the bonding angles (1) that are installed on the pylon box at RIB5.
(3) Install the bolts (4) and the nuts (3).
(4) Tighten the nuts (3).
