Installation of the Left or Right Half Door of Thrust Reverser
CAUTION:
IF YOU INSTALL A 642-38XX HALF DOOR ON AN AIRCRAFT WHERE THE OPPOSITE HALF DOOR IS A 238-11XX DOOR, MAKE SURE THAT THE SERVICE BULLETIN RA 32078-94 IS APPLIED. THE CENTER LATCH AND STIRRUP WILL NOT CONNECT. IF THE LATCH AND STIRRUP DO NOT CONNECT THE CENTER LATCH WILL NOT OPERATE CORRECTLY.
CAUTION:
THIS PART IS A REMOVABLE STRUCTURAL COMPONENT (RSC), WHICH CAN BE MOVED BETWEEN AIRCRAFT. THUS IT CAN HAVE DIFFERENT OPERATION CONDITIONS AND A DIFFERENT LIFE RECORD (FLIGHT HOURS/FLIGHT CYCLES/CALENDAR) FROM THE AIRCRAFT IT IS INSTALLED ON OR REMOVED FROM. THE OPERATOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SPECIFIC TRACKING AND CONTINUED AIRWORTHINESS OF REMOVABLE STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS. INCORRECT MAINTENANCE OF THESE COMPONENTS CAN CAUSE A RISK FOR THE FLIGHT SAFETY.

A. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
(1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU, make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to start the engine.
(2) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU, make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off. Make sure that a WARNING NOTICE(S) is in position to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).
(3) Make sure that:

B. Get Access
(1) Make sure that the fan cowl doors are open (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-040):

Subtask 78-32-11-080-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Remove the Half Door from the Mobile Workstand (HIX-3001)
(1) Remove the mobile workstand attachment strap from the middle lower fitting of the half door.
(2) Install the handling sling (HIX-1001) on the half door.
(b) Install the handling sling on the two upper hoist points of the half door.
(c) Install the lifting strap bracket to the lower hoist point on the middle lower fitting of the half door. Hook the other end of the lifting strap to the hook on the winch above.
(3) Remove the cotter pins and hinge pins from the mobile workstand.
(4) Remove the half door from the mobile workstand.
(5) Install the hinge pins on the mobile workstand and attach with cotter pins.
Subtask 78-32-11-420-051-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Remove the mobile workstand attachment strap from the middle lower fitting of the half door.
(2) Install the handling sling (HIX-1001) on the half door.
CAUTION:
THE STOPS ON THE SCREWS MUST TOUCH THE 12 O'CLOCK BEAM. IF THE SCREWS ON THE LIFTING BEAM ARE NOT FULLY IN THE HOIST POINT, THE HALF DOOR COULD FALL. IF THE HALF DOOR FALLS IT CAN BE DAMAGED.
(a) Remove and keep the hoist plugs from the two upper hoist points of the half door. (b) Install the handling sling on the two upper hoist points of the half door.
(c) Install the lifting strap bracket to the lower hoist point on the middle lower fitting of the half door. Hook the other end of the lifting strap to the hook on the winch above.
(3) Remove the cotter pins and hinge pins from the mobile workstand.
(4) Remove the half door from the mobile workstand.
(5) Install the hinge pins on the mobile workstand and attach with cotter pins.
B. Install the Half Door on the Pylon
(2) Put the half door to the 10 degree opening position.
(3) Put thrust reverser in a position so that hinges are in line with the hinges of the pylon.
(4) Install the hinge pins (15).
(5) Install the washers (20) and the nuts (25).
(6) Tighten the nut (25) without clearance.
Subtask 78-32-11-080-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL CAUTION:
MAKE SURE THE BLOCKER DOORS ARE LOCKED TO PREVENT BLOCKER DOOR DAMAGE.
CAUTION:
THE HALF DOOR WEIGHS APPROXIMATELY 440 POUNDS (200 KG). MAKE SURE THAT THE CRANE CAN LIFT 440 POUNDS (200 KG). HOWEVER, THE FORCE USED TO LIFT THE HALF DOOR SHOULD NOT BE MORE THAN 661 POUNDS (300 KG). IF THE LIFTING FORCE IS TOO MUCH THE SCREWS IN THE LIFTING BEAM CAN BREAK AND THE HALF DOOR WILL FALL AND BE DAMAGE.
(1) Apply a thin layer of molykote G rapid (Material No.CP2104) on the hinge pins (15). (2) Put the half door to the 10 degree opening position.
(3) Put thrust reverser in a position so that hinges are in line with the hinges of the pylon.
(4) Install the hinge pins (15).
(5) Install the washers (20) and the nuts (25).
(6) Tighten the nut (25) without clearance.
NOTE: Nut can be untightened of 1/6 of turn maximum to put the bolt hole in line with a castle of the nut.
(7) Install the new AIPC 78-32-01-02-430 COTTER PIN (30). C. Remove the Support Equipment
(1) Disconnect the two shackles of the handling sling.
(2) Remove the handling sling from the two upper attachment points of the half door. Install the two hoist plugs.
(3) Move the half door to 45 degree position with the handling sling.

(2) Remove the handling sling from the two upper attachment points of the half door. Install the two hoist plugs.
(3) Move the half door to 45 degree position with the handling sling.
D. Install the Hold-open Rods and Actuators
(a) Remove the quick release pin retaining the hold open rod on the lower bracket.
(b) Move the hold-open rod to the attachment bracket of the forward frame.
(c) Attach the hold open rod with the quick-release pin.
(2) Install the left and/or right door-opening actuators from pylon only (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-51-400-040).
Subtask 78-32-11-410-060-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL Subtask 78-32-11-080-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL WARNING:
YOU MUST HOLD EACH HALF DOOR OPENED WITH THE HOLD-OPEN ROD TO PREVENT SERIOUS INJURY DUE TO ACCIDENTAL CLOSURE.
(1) Install the hold-open rods. (a) Remove the quick release pin retaining the hold open rod on the lower bracket.
(b) Move the hold-open rod to the attachment bracket of the forward frame.
(c) Attach the hold open rod with the quick-release pin.
(2) Install the left and/or right door-opening actuators from pylon only (Ref. AMM TASK 78-36-51-400-040).
F. Remove the Support Equipment
(1) Remove the lifting strap bracket and lifting strap of the handling sling (HIX-1001) from the middle lower fitting.
(2) Install the hoist plug on the middle lower fitting.
Subtask 78-32-11-410-061-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL (1) Remove the lifting strap bracket and lifting strap of the handling sling (HIX-1001) from the middle lower fitting.
(2) Install the hoist plug on the middle lower fitting.
G. Install the Hinge Access Panel
(1) Install the hinge access panel (5) and attach with the 13 screws (10).
(2) TORQUE the screws (10) to between 45 and 35 lbf.in (0.51 and 0.40 m.daN )

(1) Remove the blanking caps from the electrical connectors.
(2) Connect the right electrical harness on the left electrical junction box.
(3) Connect the pylon electrical harness on the junction box or on the hydraulic control unit.
(4) Remove the blanking caps from the nipples.
(5) Connect the left or right interface hydraulic hoses.

C. Do an operational test of the thrust reverser system (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-00-710-040). Perform 10 deploy-to-stow cycles to air bleed the thrust reverser hydraulic circuit.
NOTE: As an alternative procedure you can do this operational test without the CFDS:
- first method with engine not running (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-00-710-040)
- second method with engine running (Ref. AMM TASK 78-31-00-710-040)
