Removal of the Fan Cowl Doors


WARNING: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU DO WORK ON THE ENGINE PARTS AFTER THE ENGINE SHUTDOWN. USE APPLICABLE THERMAL GLOVES. THE ENGINE PARTS CAN STAY HOT FOR ONE HOUR AFTER SHUTDOWN AND CAN BURN YOU.
CAUTION: THIS PART IS A REMOVABLE STRUCTURAL COMPONENT (RSC), WHICH CAN BE MOVED BETWEEN AIRCRAFT. THUS IT CAN HAVE DIFFERENT OPERATION CONDITIONS AND A DIFFERENT LIFE RECORD (FLIGHT HOURS/FLIGHT CYCLES/CALENDAR) FROM THE AIRCRAFT IT IS INSTALLED ON OR REMOVED FROM. THE OPERATOR IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THE SPECIFIC TRACKING AND CONTINUED AIRWORTHINESS OF REMOVABLE STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS. INCORRECT MAINTENANCE OF THESE COMPONENTS CAN CAUSE A RISK FOR THE FLIGHT SAFETY.

1. Reason for the Job
NOTE: SB RA32071-163 (equivalent to Airbus service bulletin SB 71-1068) introduces a lockable latch in the forward position (Latch no.1) that must be opened and closed and locked with a key and flag assembly. The key and flag assembly are stowed in the cockpit and must not be used if there is damage to the key or flag. The key always has to stay with the latch.
NOTE: If the fan cowl to be removed has a strake installed, the replacement fan cowl must also have a strake installed.

3. Job Set-up
Subtask 71-13-11-941-060-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Safety Precautions
   (1) On the center pedestal, on the ENG panel 115VU:
     (a) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to start the engine.
   (2) Make sure that the engine 1(2) shutdown occurred not less than 5 minutes before you do this procedure.
   (3) On the overhead maintenance panel 50VU:
     (a) Make sure that the ON legend of the ENG/FADEC GND PWR/1(2) pushbutton switch is off.
     (b) Put a WARNING NOTICE(S) to tell persons not to energize the FADEC 1(2).

B. Get Access
   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-040):
   (2) FOR [1000EM1] (ENGINE-1)

   (4) Put the ACCESS PLATFORM 1M(3 FT) in position.
4. Procedure
Subtask 71-13-11-020-053-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Remove the filler plugs of the hoist points from the fan cowl door. Keep the plugs for installation when the task is completed.
Subtask 71-13-11-480-052-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
B. Installation of the Tooling
   (1) Install the PAD - UNIVERSAL ATTACH to the hoist points of the fan cowl door.
   (2) Attach the RSE1113 SLING-FAN COWL to the universal attach pads.

C. Removal of the Fan Cowl
   (1) Lift the door until the weight of the door is supported by the fan cowl sling.
   (2) Remove the cotter pins (5) from the hinge bolts (10).
   (3) Remove the hinge bolts (10), the washers (15) and (20), and the nuts (25).
   (4) Remove the fan cowl door from the engine and put it on the RSE1115 DOLLY-FAN COWL.

D. Removal of the Tooling
   (1) Remove the RSE1113 SLING-FAN COWL from the PAD - UNIVERSAL ATTACH.
   (2) Remove the PAD - UNIVERSAL ATTACH from the fan cowl door.

E. Install the filler plugs at the hoist points.
