B. Deactivation of the Thrust Reverser
WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT THE THRUST REVERSER IS LOCKED. IF NOT, THE THRUST REVERSER CAN OPERATE ACCIDENTALLY AND CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE REVERSER.
   (1) Make the thrust reverser unserviceable for maintenance (Ref. AMM TASK 78-30-00-040-805).

   (1) Open the fan cowl doors (Ref. AMM TASK 71-13-00-010-802):

   (4) Put an ACCESS PLATFORM 3M (10 FT)- ADJUSTABLE in position:
     (a) For the left pylon, in zone 415
     (b) For the right pylon, in zone 425.
   (5) Remove the pylon lateral access-doors (Ref. AMM TASK 54-51-21-000-802):
     (a) For the left pylon: 415AL, 415AR
     (b) For the right pylon: 425AL, 425AR.

D. Preparation of the Inspection Area
   (1) Remove the sealant and/or paint from the inspection area if this is necessary for the Non-destructive Testing Manual (NTM) task.
   (2) Make sure that the inspection area is sufficiently clean to do a satisfactory inspection of the area.
   (3) If it is not sufficiently clean, clean the inspection area with Non Aqueous Cleaner-General - - (Material No.08BAA9) and Textile-Lint free Cotton - (Material No.14SBA1) .
   (4) Make sure that there is no Temporary Protection System (TPS) layer and if there is a TPS layer, remove it (Ref. AMM TASK 51-78-00-916-001).
   (5) Do a visual check of the inspection area for damage or discontinuities.
   (6) Make sure that there is no:
     (a) Corrosion damage:
  • If you find corrosion damage, refer to Structural Repair Manual SRM 512200 for types of corrosion, inspection, removal and corrosion protection.
     (b) Other damage (scratches, cracks, gouges, dents, creases):
  • If you find this type of damage, refer to Structural Repair Manual SRM 511100 for damage classification and corrective action.
4. Procedure
Subtask 54-51-00-250-054-A ** ON A/C NOT FOR ALL
A. Inspection
   (1) Do a special detailed inspection (ROTO) of the attachment bolt holes at the junction of the lateral panels and the forward lateral spars. Do this inspection on the left and right sides. This inspection includes the area between RIB2 and RIB3. Refer to Non-destructive Testing Manual NTM 545204.
     (a) For the inspection of hole types A and B:
  • Do the inspection on each side of pylon.
     (b) Do the full procedure of one hole, then do it again for each hole.
   (2) Make a report after the NDT inspection:
     (a) Corrosion damage:
  • If you find corrosion damage, refer to Structural Repair Manual ( SRM 512200) for types of corrosion, inspection, removal and corrosion protection.
     (b) Other damage (scratches, cracks, gouges, dents, creases):
  • If you find this type of damage, refer to Structural Repair Manual SRM 511100 for damage classification and corrective action.

A. Sealant or Paint Application
   (1) Apply sealant ( SRM 512400) or paint ( SRM 512300) on the inspection area, if removed.

B. Installation of the Components
   (1) After inspection of hole types A and B:
     (a) Install the bolts and the self-locking nuts of inspected holes. Refer to Structural Repair Manual SRM 514200.
     (b) Refer to the installation drawing in the SRM identification section for the new bolts and the self-locking nuts references.
