WARNING: OBEY THE FUEL SAFETY PROCEDURES.
   (1) You must obey the fuel safety procedures when you do work on the fuel system (Ref. AMM TASK 28-00-00-910-001).
   (2) Put the SAFETY BARRIER(S) in position.

B. Aircraft Maintenance Configuration
   (1) Energize the aircraft electrical circuits (Ref. AMM TASK 24-41-00-861-002).
   (2) Do the EIS start procedure (ECAM only) (Ref. AMM TASK 31-60-00-860-001).
   (3) On the ECAM Control Panel (CP), push (in) the FUEL pushbutton switch (P/BSW).
   (4) Make sure that the FUEL page is shown on the ECAM lower Display Unit (DU).

C. Fuel Configuration
   (1) Refuel each wing tank to approximately 5000 kg (11023 lb) and the center tank to a minimum of 3000 kg (6614 lb) (Ref. AMM TASK 12-11-28-650-003).
   (2) On the ECAM lower DU:
  • monitor the fuel quantity indications for each fuel tank
  • write down the fuel quantity indications when they have become stable.

4. Procedure
WARNING: WHEN YOU OPERATE THE FUEL PUMPS DURING A MAINTENANCE PROCEDURE, A MAINTENANCE PERSON MUST BE IN THE COCKPIT. THIS PERSON MUST STOP THE PUMPS WHEN THE LOW PRESSURE FAULT LIGHT(S) (ON PANEL 40VU) COME ON, TO PREVENT OPERATION OF THE PUMPS(S) WITHOUT FUEL ('DRY RUNNING'). OPERATION OF THE PUMPS WITHOUT FUEL CAN CAUSE A FIRE.

A. Operational Test of the Main Transfer System
NOTE: After you complete the maintenance procedure that follows:
  • There is a risk of surge tank overflow if the MODE SEL (4QL) pushbutton switch stays in the MAN mode.
   (1) Do the test that follows:

RESULT
1.On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • Make sure that all the fuel pump pushbutton-switches are released (out).
  • Make sure that the MODE SEL pushbutton switch is released (out).
On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • Make sure that the OFF lights of all the fuel pump pushbutton-switches are on.
  • Make sure that the MAN light of the MODE SEL pushbutton switch is on.
2.On overhead control-panel 25VU:
  • Put the ANN LT switch to the TEST position.
  • Put the ANN LT switch to the BRT or the DIM position.
  • Make sure that the lights of all the pushbutton switches come on.
  • Make sure that the lights of all the pushbutton switches go back to their set configuration.
3.On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • Push (in) the L TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches.
  • Push (in) the CTR TK L XFR pushbutton switch.
On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • The FAULT lights of the L TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches come on momentarily and then go off.
  • When the FAULT lights of the pushbutton switches go off, the L TK PUMPS 1 and 2 OFF lights go off.

    On the ECAM lower DU:
  • The indications for the LEFT pumps change from amber cross-line (the pumps are not in operation) to green in-line (the pumps are in operation).
    On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • The OFF light of the CTR TK L XFR pushbutton switch goes off.
    On the ECAM lower DU:
  • The indication for the center-tank L transfer-pump changes from amber cross-line (the pump is not in operation) to green in-line (the pump is in operation).
4.Operate the pumps for five minutes.
  • The fuel quantity indication for the center tank decreases while the fuel quantity indication for the left wing tank increases.
5.On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • After five minutes, release (out) the CTR TK L XFR and the L TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches.
On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • The OFF lights of the CTR TK L XFR and the L TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches come on.
    On the ECAM lower DU:
  • The fuel pump indications show the amber cross-line (the pump is not in operation).
  • Make sure that the fuel quantity indication for the left wing tank stops to increase.
6.On the ECAM lower DU:
  • Monitor the fuel quantity indications.
  • Write down the fuel quantity indications when they become stable.

7.Use the fuel quantity indications (that you wrote down) to calculate the fuel transfer rate from the center tank to the left wing tank.
The transfer rate must be between 70 kg (154 lb)/min and 106 kg (234 lb)/min.
8.On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • Push (in) the R TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches.
  • Push (in) the CTR TK R XFR pushbutton switch.
On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • The FAULT lights of the R TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches come on momentarily and then go off.
  • When the FAULT lights of the pushbutton switches go off, the R TK PUMPS 1 and 2 OFF lights go off.

    On the ECAM lower DU:
  • The indications for the RIGHT pumps change from amber cross-line (the pump is not in operation) to green in-line (the pump is in operation).

    On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • The OFF light of the CTR TK R XFR pushbutton switch goes off.

    On the ECAM lower DU:
  • The indication for the center-tank R transfer-pump changes from amber cross-line (the pump is not in operation) to green in-line (the pump is in operation).
9.Operate the pumps for five minutes.
  • The fuel quantity indication for the center tank decreases while the fuel quantity indication for the right wing tank increases.
10.On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • After five minutes, release (out) the CTR TK R XFR and the R TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches.
On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • The OFF lights of the CTR TK R XFR and the R TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches come on.
    On the ECAM lower DU:
  • The indications for all the fuel pumps show the amber cross-line (the pumps are not in operation).
  • Make sure that the fuel quantity indication for the right wing tank stops to increase.
11.On the ECAM lower DU:
  • Monitor the fuel quantity indications.
  • Write down the fuel quantity indications when they become stable.

12.Use the fuel quantity indications (that you wrote down) to calculate the fuel transfer rate from the center tank to the right wing tank.
The transfer rate must be between 70 kg (154 lb)/min and 106 kg (234 lb)/min.
13.On fuel control-panel 40VU, push (in) the pushbutton switches that follow:
  • The MODE SEL pushbutton switch
  • The CTR TK L XFR pushbutton switch
  • The CTR TK R XFR pushbutton switch
  • The L TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches
  • The R TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches.
On fuel control-panel 40VU, make sure that the lights that follow go off:
  • The MAN light of the MODE SEL pushbutton switch
  • The OFF light of the CTR TK L XFR pushbutton switch
  • The OFF light of the CTR TK R XFR pushbutton switch
  • The OFF lights of the L TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches
  • The OFF lights of the R TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches.
On the ECAM lower DU:
  • Make sure that all the fuel pump indications change from amber cross-line (the pump is not in operation) to green in-line (the pump is in operation).
14.Monitor the ECAM lower DU:
When the CTR pump indications change from green in-line (the pump is in operation) to green cross-line (the pump is set to on, but not in operation), on fuel control-panel 40VU:

  • Release (out) the CTR TK L XFR pushbutton switch.
  • Release (out) the CTR TK R XFR pushbutton switch.
  • Release (out) the L TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches.
  • Release (out) the R TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches.
On fuel control-panel 40VU, make sure that the lights that follow come on:

  • The OFF light of the CTR TK L XFR pushbutton switch
  • The OFF light of the CTR TK R XFR pushbutton switch
  • The OFF lights of the L TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switch
  • The OFF lights of the R TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches.
    On the ECAM lower DU:
  • Make sure that the LEFT and the RIGHT pump indications change from green in-line (the pump is in operation) to amber cross-line (the pump is not in operation).
  • Make sure that the CTR pumps indications change from green cross-line (the pumps are set to on, but not in operation) to amber cross-line (the pumps are not in operation).
15.On the ECAM lower DU:
  • Monitor the fuel quantity indications.
  • Write down the wing-tank fuel-quantities indications when they become stable.

16.On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • Push (in) the X FEED pushbutton switch.
  • Push (in) the L TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches.
  • Push (in) the CTR TK L XFR pushbutton switches.
On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • The ON and the OPEN lights of the X FEED pushbutton switches come on.
  • The OFF lights of the L TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches go off.
  • The OFF light of the CTR TK L XFR pushbutton switch goes off.
On the ECAM lower DU:
  • The crossfeed valve indication changes from green cross-line (the valve is closed) to green in-line (the valve is open).
  • The LEFT pump indications change from amber cross-line (the pump is not in operation) to green in-line (the pump is in operation).
  • The indication for the center-tank L transfer-pump will change from amber cross-line (the pump is not in operation) to green in-line (the pump is in operation).
17.Defuel the left wing tank at a rate of 60 l (16 USgal)/min (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).
On the ECAM lower DU:
  • The fuel quantity indication for the left wing tank decreases.
CAUTION: BEFORE YOU CLOSE THE CROSSFEED VALVE, MAKE SURE THAT THE FUEL PUMP(S) IS(ARE) OFF. THIS WILL PREVENT DAMAGE TO THE CROSSFEED VALVE.
18.Monitor the ECAM lower DU:
When the center-tank L transfer-pump indication changes from green cross-line (the pump is set to on, but not in operation) to green in-line (the pump is in operation), on fuel control-panel 40VU:

  • Release (out) the L TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches.
  • Release (out) the CTR TK L XFR pushbutton switch.
  • Release (out) the X FEED pushbutton switch.
On fuel control-panel 40VU:

  • The OFF lights of the L TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches come on.
  • The OFF light of the CTR TK L XFR pushbutton switch comes on.
  • The OPEN and the ON lights of the X FEED pushbutton switches go off.
On the ECAM lower DU:
  • The LEFT pump indications change from green in-line (the pump is in operation) to amber cross-line (the pump is not in operation).
  • The indication for the center-tank L transfer-pump will change from green in-line (the pump is in operation) to amber cross-line (the pump is not in operation).
  • The crossfeed valve indication changes from green in-line (the valve is open) to green cross-line (the valve is closed).
19.On the ECAM lower DU:
  • Monitor the fuel quantity indications.
  • Write down the indications of the left wing-tank fuel-quantities when they become stable.

20.Use the fuel quantity indications (that you wrote down) to calculate the quantity of fuel removed from the aircraft to operate the CTR TK L XFR pump. The quantity of fuel removed from the aircraft must be between 150 kg (331 lb) and 250 kg (551 lb).

21.On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • Push (in) the R TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches.
  • Push (in) the CTR TK R XFR pushbutton switch.
On fuel control-panel 40VU:
  • The OFF lights of the R TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches go off.
  • The OFF light of the CTR TK R XFR pushbutton switch goes off.
    On the ECAM lower DU:
  • The RIGHT pump indications change from amber cross-line (the pump is not in operation) to green in-line (the pump is in operation).
  • The indication for the center-tank R transfer-pump will change from amber cross-line (the pump is not in operation) to green in-line (the pump is in operation).
22.Defuel the right wing tank at a rate of 60 l (16 USgal)/min (Ref. AMM TASK 28-25-00-650-001).
On the ECAM lower DU, the fuel quantity indication for the right wing tank decreases.
23.Monitor the ECAM lower DU:
When the center-tank R transfer-pump indication changes from green cross-line (the pump is set to on, but not in operation) to green in-line (the pump is in operation), on fuel control-panel 40VU:

  • Release (out) the R TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches.
  • Release (out) the CTR TK R XFR pushbutton switch.
On fuel control-panel 40VU:

  • The OFF lights of the R TK PUMPS 1 and 2 pushbutton switches come on.
  • The OFF light of the CTR TK R XFR pushbutton switch comes on.
    On the ECAM lower DU:
  • The RIGHT pump indications change from green in-line (the pump is in operation) to amber cross-line (the pump is not in operation).
  • The indication for the center-tank R transfer-pump will change from green in-line (the pump is in operation) to amber cross-line (the pump is not in operation).
24.On the ECAM lower DU:
  • Monitor the fuel quantity indications.
  • Write down the indications of the right wing-tank fuel-quantities when they become stable.

25.Use the fuel quantity indications (that you wrote down) to calculate the quantity of fuel removed from the aircraft to operate the CTR TK R XFR pump. The quantity of fuel removed from the aircraft must be between 150 kg (331 lb) and 250 kg (551 lb).
